1 Eine linde Antwort stillet den Zorn; aber ein hart Wort richtet Grimm an.
A SOFT answer turneth away wrath: but a grievous word stirreth up anger.
2 Der Weisen Zunge macht die Lehre lieblich; der Narren Mund speiet eitel Narrheit.
The tongue of the wise uttereth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out folly.
3 Die Augen des HERRN schauen an allen Orten beide, die Bösen und Frommen.
The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch upon the evil and the good.
4 Eine heilsame Zunge ist ein Baum des Lebens; aber eine lügenhaftige macht Her
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breaking of the spirit.
5 Der Narr lästert die Zucht seines Vaters; wer aber Strafe annimmt, der wird klug werden.
A fool despiseth his father’s correction: but he that regardeth reproof getteth prudence.
6 In des Gerechten Hause ist Guts genug aber in dem Einkommen des Gottlosen ist Verderben.
In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
7 Der Weisen Mund streuet guten Rat; aber der Narren Herz ist nicht also.
The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish [doeth] not so.
8 Der Gottlosen Opfer ist dem HERRN ein Greuel; aber das Gebet der Frommen ist ihm angenehm.
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
9 Des Gottlosen Weg ist dem HERRN ein Greuel; wer aber der Gerechtigkeit nachjagt, der wird geliebet.
The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
10 Das ist eine böse Zucht, den Weg verlassen; und wer die Strafe hasset, der muß sterben.
There is grievous correction for him that forsaketh the way: [and] he that hateth reproof shall die.
Sheol and Abaddon are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men! (Sheol h7585)
12 Der Spötter liebt nicht, der ihn straft, und gehet nicht zu den Weisen.
A scorner loveth not to be reproved: he will not go unto the wise.
13 Ein fröhlich Herz macht ein fröhlich Angesicht; aber wenn das Herz bekümmert ist, so fällt auch der Mut.
A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.
14 Ein kluges Herz handelt bedächtiglich; aber die kühnen Narren regieren närrisch.
The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on folly.
15 Ein Betrübter hat nimmer keinen guten Tag; aber ein guter Mut ist ein täglich Wohlleben.
All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a cheerful heart [hath] a continual feast.
16 Es ist besser ein wenig mit der Furcht des HERRN denn großer Schatz, darin Unruhe ist.
Better is little with the fear of the LORD, than great treasure and trouble therewith.
17 Es ist besser ein Gericht Kraut mit Liebe denn ein gemästeter Ochse mit Haß.
Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
18 Ein zorniger Mann richtet Hader an; ein Geduldiger aber stillet den Zank.
A wrathful man stirreth up contention: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
19 Der Weg des Faulen ist dornig; aber der Weg der Frommen ist wohl gebahnet.
The way of the sluggard is as an hedge of thorns: but the path of the upright is made an highway.
20 Ein weiser Sohn erfreuet den Vater; und ein närrischer Mensch ist seiner Mutter Schande.
A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
21 Dem Toren ist die Torheit eine Freude; aber ein verständiger Mann bleibt auf dem rechten Wege.
Folly is joy to him that is void of wisdom: but a man of understanding maketh straight his going.
22 Die Anschläge werden zunichte, wo nicht Rat ist; wo aber viel Ratgeber sind, bestehen sie.
Where there is no counsel, purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
23 Es ist einem eine Freude, wo man ihm richtig antwortet; und ein Wort zu seiner Zeit ist sehr lieblich.
A man hath joy in the answer of his mouth: and a word in due season, how good is it!
24 Der Weg des Lebens gehet überwärts klug zu machen, auf daß man meide die Hölle unterwärts. (Sheol h7585)
To the wise the way of life [goeth] upward, that he may depart from Sheol beneath. (Sheol h7585)
25 Der HERR wird das Haus der Hoffärtigen zerbrechen und die Grenze der Witwen bestätigen.
The LORD will root up the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.
26 Die Anschläge des Argen sind dem HERRN ein Greuel; aber tröstlich reden die Reinen.
Evil devices are an abomination to the LORD: but pleasant words [are] pure.
27 Der Geizige verstöret sein eigen Haus; wer aber Geschenk hasset, der wird leben.
He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house: but he that hateth gifts shall live.
28 Das Herz des Gerechten dichtet, was zu antworten ist; aber der Mund der Gottlosen schäumet Böses.
The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
29 Der HERR ist ferne von den Gottlosen; aber der Gerechten Gebet erhöret er.
The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
30 Freundlicher Anblick erfreuet das Herz; ein gut Gerücht macht das Gebeine fett.
The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: [and] good tidings make the bones fat.
31 Das Ohr, das da höret die Strafe des Lebens, wird unter den Weisen wohnen.
The ear that hearkeneth to the reproof of life shall abide among the wise.
32 Wer sich nicht ziehen läßt, der macht sich selbst zunichte; wer aber Strafe höret, der wird klug.
He that refuseth correction despiseth his own soul: but he that hearkeneth to reproof getteth understanding.
33 Die Furcht des HERRN ist Zucht zur Weisheit; und ehe man zu Ehren kommt, muß man zuvor leiden.
The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour [goeth] humility.
