Philemon 1
1 Paulus, der Gebundene Christi Jesu, und Timotheus, der Bruder: Philemon, dem Lieben und unserm Gehilfen,
Paul a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy a brother, to Philemon our beloved brother and fellow-laborer, and to the beloved Apphia,
2 und Appia, der Lieben, und Archippus, unserm Streitgenossen, und der Gemeinde in deinem Hause.
and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the church in thine house,
3 Gnade sei mit euch und Friede von Gott, unserm Vater, und dem HERRN Jesu Christo!
grace and peace be to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 Ich danke meinem Gott und gedenke dein allezeit in meinem Gebet,
I thank my God always making mention of thee in my prayers,
5 nachdem ich höre von der Liebe und dem Glauben, welchen du hast an den HERRN Jesum und gegen alle Heiligen,
(hearing of the faith which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and of thy love to all the saints, )
6 daß dein Glaube, den wir miteinander haben, in dir kräftig werde durch Erkenntnis alles des Guten, das ihr habt in Christo Jesu.
that the communication of thy faith may become effectual in the acknowledgement of all the good that is in you towards Christ Jesus:
7 Wir haben aber große Freude und Trost an deiner Liebe; denn die Herzen der Heiligen sind erquicket durch dich, lieber Bruder.
for we have much joy and comfort in thy love, because by thee, dear brother, the bowels of the saints are refreshed.
8 Darum, wiewohl ich habe große Freudigkeit in Christo, dir zu gebieten, was dir ziemet,
Wherefore though I have sufficient authority in Christ to enjoin thee what is meet,
9 so will ich doch um der Liebe willen nur vermahnen, der ich ein solcher bin, nämlich ein alter Paulus, nun aber auch ein Gebundener Jesu Christi.
I would rather intreat thee out of love to me, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now a prisoner too for the sake of Jesus Christ.
10 So ermahne ich dich um meines Sohnes willen, Onesimus, den ich gezeuget habe in meinen Banden,
I intreat thee then for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds,
11 welcher weiland dir unnütze, nun aber dir und mir wohl nütze ist: den habe ich wiedergesandt.
who was formerly unprofitable to thee, but now profitable both to thee and to me; whom I have sent back to thee:
12 Du aber wollest ihn, das ist, mein eigen Herz, annehmen.
him therefore, as my own bowels, do thou receive.
13 Denn ich wollte ihn bei mir behalten, daß er mir an deiner Statt dienete in den Banden des Evangeliums;
Whom I would gladly have kept with me, that he might have ministered unto me as thou wouldst have done, in the bonds of the gospel.
14 aber ohne deinen Willen wollte ich nichts tun, auf daß dein Gutes nicht wäre genötiget, sondern freiwillig.
But I would do nothing without thy knowledge, that thy kindness might not be as it were forced, but voluntary.
15 Vielleicht aber ist er darum eine Zeitlang von dir kommen, daß du ihn ewig wieder hättest, (aiōnios g166)
For perhaps he was therefore parted from thee for a season, that thou mightest receive him for ever: (aiōnios g166)
16 nun nicht mehr als einen Knecht, sondern mehr denn einen Knecht, einen lieben Bruder, sonderlich mir; wie viel mehr aber dir, beide, nach dem Fleisch und in dem HERRN.
not now as a servant, but above a servant, a dear brother, especially to me, and how much more to thee both in the flesh and in the Lord.
17 So du nun mich hältst für deinen Gesellen, so wollest du ihn als mich selbst annehmen.
If therefore thou accountest me a friend, receive him as thou wouldst receive me.
18 So er aber dir etwas Schaden getan hat oder schuldig ist, das rechne mir zu.
If he hath wronged thee in any thing, or is indebted to thee, place it to my accompt:
19 Ich, Paulus, hab' es geschrieben mit meiner Hand; ich will's bezahlen. Ich schweige, daß du dich selbst mir schuldig bist.
I Paul have written it with my own hand, I will pay it: not to say that thou indeed owest even thy own self to me.
20 Ja, lieber Bruder, gönne mir, daß ich mich an dir ergötze in dem HERRN; erquicke mein Herz in dem HERRN!
Yea, my brother, let me enjoy this satisfaction from thee in the Lord: and thus refresh my bowels in the Lord.
21 Ich hab' aus Zuversicht deines Gehorsams dir geschrieben; denn ich weiß, du wirst mehr tun, denn ich sage.
Being fully persuaded of thy compliance, I have written to thee; knowing that thou wilt indeed do more than I ask.
22 Daneben bereite mir die Herberge; denn ich hoffe, daß ich durch euer Gebet euch geschenket werde.
But I must add, prepare me also a lodging; for I hope that through your prayers I shall be restored to you.
23 Es grüßet dich Epaphras, mein Mitgefangener in Christo Jesu,
Epaphras my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus, and Marcus,
24 Markus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lukas, meine Gehilfen.
Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke my fellow-laborers, salute thee.
25 Die Gnade unsers HERRN Jesu Christi sei mit eurem Geist! Amen.
