Matthaeus 22
1 Und Jesus antwortete und redete abermal durch Gleichnisse zu ihnen und sprach:
Once again Jesus spoke to them in parables, saying,
2 Das Himmelreich ist gleich einem Könige, der seinem Sohne Hochzeit machte.
“The kingdom of heaven can be compared to a king who prepared a wedding feast for his son.
3 Und sandte seine Knechte aus, daß sie die Gäste zur Hochzeit riefen; und sie wollten nicht kommen.
He sent his servants to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come.
4 Abermal sandte er andere Knechte aus und sprach: Saget den Gästen: Siehe, meine Mahlzeit habe ich bereitet, meine Ochsen und mein Mastvieh ist geschlachtet und alles bereit; kommet zur Hochzeit!
Again he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and the fattened cattle have been slaughtered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.”’
5 Aber sie verachteten das und gingen hin, einer auf seinen Acker, der andere zu seiner Hantierung.
But they paid no attention and went away, one to his own field and another to his business.
6 Etliche aber griffen seine Knechte, höhneten und töteten sie.
The rest seized his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.
7 Da das der König hörete, ward er zornig und schickte seine Heere aus und brachte diese Mörder um und zündete ihre Stadt an.
When the king heard about it, he was furious. So he sent his armies, who destroyed those murderers and burned down their city.
8 Da sprach er zu seinen Knechten: Die Hochzeit ist zwar bereit, aber die Gäste waren es nicht wert.
Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.
9 Darum gehet hin auf die Straßen und ladet zur Hochzeit, wen ihr findet.
Go therefore to where the roads exit the city and invite to the wedding feast anyone you find.’
10 Und die Knechte gingen aus auf die Straßen und brachten zusammen, wen sie fanden, Böse und Gute. Und die Tische wurden alle voll.
So the servants went out to the roads and gathered together all whom they found, both evil and good, and the wedding feast was filled with guests.
11 Da ging der König hinein, die Gäste zu besehen, und sah allda einen Menschen, der hatte kein hochzeitlich Kleid an,
“But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who was not clothed with a wedding garment.
12 und sprach zu ihm: Freund, wie bist du hereinkommen und hast doch kein hochzeitlich Kleid an? Er aber verstummte.
So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did yoʋ get in here without a wedding garment?’ But the man was speechless.
13 Da sprach der König zu seinen Dienern: Bindet ihm Hände und Füße und werfet ihn in die äußerste Finsternis hinaus; da wird sein Heulen und Zähneklappen;
Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind his feet and hands, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
14 denn viele sind berufen, aber wenige sind auserwählet.
For many are called, but few are chosen.”
15 Da gingen die Pharisäer hin und hielten einen Rat, wie sie ihn fingen in seiner Rede.
Then the Pharisees went and took counsel as to how they might ensnare Jesus in what he said.
16 Und sandten zu ihm ihre Jünger samt des Herodes Dienern und sprachen: Meister, wir wissen, daß du wahrhaftig bist und lehrest den Weg Gottes recht und fragest nach niemand; denn du achtest nicht das Ansehen der Menschen.
They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, who said to him, “Teacher, we know that yoʋ are true and teach the way of God in truth and defer to no one, for yoʋ do not show partiality.
17 Darum sage uns, was dünket dich? Ist's recht, daß man dem Kaiser Zins gebe, oder nicht?
Tell us then, what do yoʋ think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
18 Da nun Jesus merkte ihre Schalkheit, sprach er: Ihr Heuchler, was versuchet ihr mich?
But Jesus knew their evil intent and said, “Why are you testing me, you hypocrites?
19 Weiset mir die Zinsmünze! Und sie reichten ihm einen Groschen dar.
Show me the coin for the tax.” So they brought him a denarius.
20 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Wes ist das Bild und die Überschrift?
Then he said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?”
21 Sie sprachen zu ihm: Des Kaisers. Da sprach er zu ihnen: So gebet dem Kaiser, was des Kaisers ist, und Gott, was Gottes ist.
They said to him, “Caesar's.” So he said to them, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.”
22 Da sie das höreten, verwunderten sie sich und ließen ihn und gingen davon.
When they heard this, they were amazed. Then they left him and went away.
23 An demselbigen Tage traten zu ihm die Sadduzäer, die da halten, es sei kein Auferstehen, und fragten ihn
On that day some Sadducees (who say there is no resurrection) came to Jesus and asked him,
24 und sprachen: Meister, Mose hat gesagt: So einer stirbt und hat nicht Kinder, so soll sein Bruder sein Weib freien und seinem Bruder Samen erwecken.
“Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him.’
25 Nun sind bei uns gewesen sieben Brüder. Der erste freiete und starb, und dieweil er nicht Samen hatte, ließ er sein Weib seinem Bruder.
Now there were seven brothers among us. The first married and died, and having no offspring, he left his wife to his brother.
26 Desselbengleichen der andere und der dritte bis an den siebenten.
The same thing happened to the second and to the third, down to the seventh.
27 Zuletzt nach allen starb auch das Weib.
Last of all, the woman also died.
28 Nun in der Auferstehung, wessen Weib wird sie sein unter den sieben? Sie haben sie ja alle gehabt.
In the resurrection, therefore, which of the seven will she be the wife of? For they all had her.”
29 Jesus aber antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Ihr irret und wisset die Schrift nicht noch die Kraft Gottes.
Jesus answered them, “You are in error because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God.
30 In der Auferstehung werden sie weder freien noch sich freien lassen, sondern sie sind gleich wie die Engel Gottes im Himmel.
For in the resurrection people neither marry nor are they given in marriage. Instead, they are like angels of God in heaven.
31 Habt ihr aber nicht gelesen von der Toten Auferstehung, das euch gesagt ist von Gott, da er spricht:
But as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what God said to you:
32 Ich bin der Gott Abrahams und der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs? Gott aber ist nicht ein Gott der Toten, sondern der Lebendigen.
‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”
33 Und da solches das Volk hörete, entsetzten sie sich über seine Lehre.
And when the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.
34 Da aber die Pharisäer höreten, daß er den Sadduzäern das Maul gestopft hatte, versammelten sie sich.
Now when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.
35 Und einer unter ihnen, ein Schriftgelehrter, versuchte ihn und sprach:
And one of them, a lawyer, asked Jesus a question to test him:
36 Meister, welches ist das vornehmste Gebot im Gesetz?
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Du sollst lieben Gott, deinen HERRN, von ganzem Herzen, von ganzer Seele und von ganzem Gemüt.
Jesus said to him, “‘Yoʋ shall love the Lord yoʋr God with all yoʋr heart, with all yoʋr soul, and with all yoʋr mind.’
38 Dies ist das vornehmste und größte Gebot.
This is the most important and greatest commandment.
39 Das andere aber ist dem gleich: Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst.
And a second is like it: ‘Yoʋ shall love yoʋr neighbor as yoʋrself.’
40 In diesen zweien Geboten hanget das ganze Gesetz und die Propheten.
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
41 Da nun die Pharisäer beieinander waren, fragte sie Jesus
While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,
42 und sprach: Wie dünket euch um Christus? Wes Sohn ist er? Sie sprachen: Davids.
“What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “David's.”
43 Er sprach zu ihnen: Wie nennet ihn denn David im Geist einen HERRN, da er sagt:
He said to them, “How is it then that David, in the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord,’ saying,
44 Der HERR hat gesagt zu meinem HERRN: Setze dich zu meiner Rechten, bis daß ich lege deine Feinde zum Schemel deiner Füße.
‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand until I make yoʋr enemies a footstool for yoʋr feet”’?
45 So nun David ihn einen HERRN nennet, wie ist er denn sein Sohn?
If David calls him ‘Lord,’ how is he his son?”
46 Und niemand konnte ihm ein Wort antworten, und durfte auch niemand von dem Tage an hinfort ihn fragen.
No one was able to say anything in reply, nor did anyone dare to ask him questions anymore from that day forward.
