Matthaeus 10
1 Und er rief seine zwölf Jünger zu sich und gab ihnen Macht über die unsaubern Geister, daß sie dieselbigen austrieben und heileten allerlei Seuche und allerlei Krankheit.
Calling his twelve Disciples to him, Jesus gave them authority over foul spirits, so that they could drive them out, as well as the power of curing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.
2 Die Namen aber der zwölf Apostel sind diese: Der erste Simon, genannt Petrus, und Andreas, sein Bruder; Jakobus, des Zebedäus Sohn, und Johannes, sein Bruder;
The names of the twelve apostles are these, First Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John;
3 Philippus und Bartholomäus; Thomas und Matthäus, der Zöllner; Jakobus, des Alphäus Sohn; Lebbäus mit dem Zunamen Thaddäus;
Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax-gatherer; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;
4 Simon von Kana und Judas Ischariot, welcher ihn verriet.
Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot – the apostle who betrayed him.
5 Diese zwölf sandte Jesus, gebot ihnen und sprach: Gehet nicht auf der Heiden Straße und ziehet nicht in der Samariter Städte,
These twelve Jesus sent out as his messengers, after giving them these instructions – “Do not go to the Gentiles, nor enter any Samaritan town,
6 sondern gehet hin zu den verloren Schafen aus dem Hause Israel.
but make your way rather to the lost sheep of Israel.
7 Gehet aber und prediget und sprecht: Das Himmelreich ist nahe herbeikommen.
On your way proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
8 Machet die Kranken gesund, reiniget die Aussätzigen, wecket die Toten auf, treibet die Teufel aus! Umsonst habt ihr's empfangen, umsonst gebet es auch.
Cure the sick, raise the dead, make the lepers clean, drive out demons. You have received free of cost, give free of cost.
9 Ihr sollt nicht Gold noch Silber noch Erz in euren Gürteln haben,
Do not provide yourselves with gold, or silver, or coins in your purses;
10 auch keine Tasche zur Wegfahrt, auch nicht zwei Röcke, keine Schuhe, auch keinen Stecken. Denn ein Arbeiter ist seiner Speise wert.
not even with a bag for the journey, or a change of clothes, or sandals, or even a staff; for the worker is worth his food.
11 Wo ihr aber in eine Stadt oder Markt gehet, da erkundiget euch, ob jemand darinnen sei, der es wert ist; und bei demselben bleibet, bis ihr von dannen ziehet.
Whatever town or village you visit, find out who is worthy in that place, and remain there until you leave.
12 Wo ihr aber in ein Haus gehet, so grüßet dasselbige.
As you enter the house, greet it.
13 Und so es dasselbige Haus wert ist, wird euer Friede auf sie kommen. Ist es aber nicht wert, so wird sich euer Friede wieder zu euch wenden.
Then, if the house is worthy, let your blessing rest on it, but, if it is unworthy, let your blessing return on yourselves.
14 Und wo euch jemand nicht annehmen wird noch eure Rede hören, so gehet heraus von demselbigen Hause oder Stadt und schüttelt den Staub von euren Füßen.
If no one welcomes you, or listens to what you say, as you leave that house or that town, shake off its dust from your feet.
15 Wahrlich, ich sage euch, dem Lande der Sodomer und Gomorrer wird es erträglicher ergehen am Jüngsten Gericht denn solcher Stadt.
I tell you, the doom of the land of Sodom and Gomorrah will be more bearable in the day of judgment than the doom of that town.
16 Siehe, ich sende euch wie Schafe mitten unter die Wölfe; darum seid klug wie die Schlangen und ohne Falsch wie die Tauben!
“Remember, I am sending you out as my messengers like sheep among wolves. So be as wise as snakes, and as blameless as doves.
17 Hütet euch aber vor den Menschen! Denn sie werden euch überantworten vor ihre Rathäuser und werden euch geißeln in ihren Schulen.
Be on your guard against others, for they will betray you to courts of law, and scourge you in their synagogues;
18 Und man wird euch vor Fürsten und Könige führen um meinetwillen zum Zeugnis über sie und über die Heiden.
and you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake so that you may witness for me before them and the nations.
19 Wenn sie euch nun überantworten werden, so sorget nicht, wie oder was ihr reden sollt; denn es soll euch zu der Stunde gegeben werden, was ihr reden sollt.
Whenever they betray you, do not be anxious as to how you will speak or what you will say, for what you will say will be given you at the moment;
20 Denn ihr seid es nicht, die da reden, sondern eures Vaters Geist ist es, der durch euch redet.
for it will not be you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaks within you.
21 Es wird aber ein Bruder den andern zum Tod überantworten und der Vater den Sohn, und die Kinder werden sich empören wider ihre Eltern und ihnen zum Tode helfen.
Brother will betray brother to death, and the father his child; and children will turn against their parents, and cause them to be put to death;
22 Und müsset gehasset werden von jedermann um meines Namens willen. Wer aber bis an das Ende beharret, der wird selig.
and you will be hated by everyone because of me. Yet the person who endures to the end will be saved.
23 Wenn sie euch aber in einer Stadt verfolgen, so fliehet in eine andere. Wahrlich, ich sage euch, ihr werdet die Städte Israels nicht ausrichten, bis des Menschen Sohn kommt.
But, when they persecute you in one town, escape to the next; for, I tell you, you will not have come to the end of the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
24 Der Jünger ist nicht über seinen Meister noch der Knecht über den HERRN.
A student is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.
25 Es ist dem Jünger genug, daß er sei wie sein Meister und der Knecht wie sein HERR. Haben sie den Hausvater Beelzebub geheißen, wieviel mehr werden sie seine Hausgenossen also heißen!
It is enough for a student to be treated like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!
26 Darum fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen! Es ist nichts verborgen, das nicht offenbar werde, und ist nichts heimlich, das man nicht wissen werde.
Do not, therefore, be afraid of them. There is nothing concealed which will not be revealed, nor anything hidden which will not become known.
27 Was ich euch sage in Finsternis, das redet im Licht, und was ihr höret in das Ohr, das prediget auf den Dächern.
What I tell you in the dark, say again in the light; and what is whispered in your ear, proclaim on the housetops.
28 Und fürchtet euch nicht vor denen, die den Leib töten und die Seele nicht mögen töten. Fürchtet euch aber vielmehr vor dem, der Leib und Seele verderben mag in die Hölle. (Geenna g1067)
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but are unable to kill the soul; rather be afraid of him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
29 Kauft man nicht zwei Sperlinge um einen Pfennig? Noch fällt derselbigen keiner auf die Erde ohne euren Vater.
Are not two sparrows sold for a one copper coin? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s knowledge.
30 Nun aber sind auch eure Haare auf dem Haupt alle gezählet.
While as for you, even the hairs of your head are numbered.
31 Darum fürchtet euch nicht; ihr seid besser denn viele Sperlinge.
Do not, therefore, be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows.
32 Darum, wer mich bekennet vor den Menschen, den will ich bekennen vor meinem himmlischen Vater.
Everyone, therefore, who will publicly acknowledge me, I, too, will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven;
33 Wer mich aber verleugnet vor den Menschen, den will ich auch verleugnen vor meinem himmlischen Vater.
but, if anyone publicly disowns me, I, too, will disown him before my Father who is in heaven.
34 Ihr sollt nicht wähnen, daß ich kommen sei, Frieden zu senden auf Erden. Ich bin nicht kommen, Frieden zu senden, sondern das Schwert.
“Do not imagine that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have come to bring, not peace, but the sword.
35 Denn ich bin kommen, den Menschen zu erregen wider seinen Vater und die Tochter wider ihre Mutter und die Schnur wider ihre Schwieger.
For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
36 Und des Menschen Feinde werden seine eigenen Hausgenossen sein.
A person’s enemies will be the members of their own household.
37 Wer Vater oder Mutter mehr liebet denn mich, der ist mein nicht wert; und wer Sohn oder Tochter mehr liebt denn mich, der ist mein nicht wert.
Anyone who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
38 Und wer nicht sein Kreuz auf sich nimmt und folget mir nach, der ist mein nicht wert.
Anyone who does not take their cross and follow in my steps is not worthy of me.
39 Wer 'sein Leben findet, der wird's verlieren; und wer sein Leben verlieret um meinetwillen, der wird's finden.
The person who has found their life will lose it, while the person who, for my sake, has lost their life will find it.
40 Wer euch aufnimmt, der nimmt mich auf; und wer mich aufnimmt, der nimmt den auf, der mich gesandt hat.
“Anyone who welcomes you is welcoming me; and anyone who welcomes me is welcoming him who sent me as his messenger.
41 Wer einen Propheten aufnimmt in eines Propheten Namen, der wird eines Propheten Lohn empfahen. Wer einen Gerechten aufnimmt in eines Gerechten Namen, der wird eines Gerechten Lohn empfahen.
The person who welcomes a prophet, because they are a prophet, will receive a prophet’s reward; and anyone who welcomes a good person, because they are a good person, will receive a good person’s reward.
42 Und wer dieser Geringsten einen nur mit einem Becher kalten Wassers tränket in eines Jüngers Namen, wahrlich, ich sage euch, es wird ihm nicht unbelohnet bleiben!
And, if anyone gives but a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because they are a disciple, I tell you that they will assuredly not lose their reward.”
