Markus 8
1 Zu der Zeit, da viel Volks da war und hatten nichts zu essen, rief Jesus seine Jünger zu sich und sprach zu ihnen:
About that time, when there was again a great crowd of people who had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him, and said,
2 Mich jammert des Volks; denn sie haben nun drei Tage bei mir beharret und haben nichts zu essen;
“My heart is moved at the sight of all these people, for they have already been with me three days and they have nothing to eat;
3 und wenn ich sie ungegessen von mir heim ließe gehen, würden sie auf dem Wege verschmachten. Denn etliche waren von ferne kommen.
and if I send them away to their homes hungry, they will break down on the way; and some of them have come a long distance.”
4 Seine Jünger antworteten ihm: Woher nehmen wir Brot hier in der Wüste, daß wir sie sättigen?
“Where will it be possible,” his disciples answered, “to get sufficient bread for these people in this lonely place?”
5 Und er fragte sie: Wieviel habt ihr Brots? Sie sprachen: Sieben.
“How many loaves have you?” he asked. “Seven,” they answered.
6 Und er gebot dem Volk, daß sie sich auf die Erde lagerten. Und er nahm die sieben Brote und dankete und brach sie und gab sie seinen Jüngern, daß sie dieselbigen vorlegten; und sie legten dem Volk vor.
Jesus told the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves, and, after saying the thanksgiving, broke them, and gave them to his disciples to serve out; and they served them out to the crowd.
7 Und hatten ein wenig Fischlein; und er dankte und hieß dieselbigen auch vortragen.
They had also a few small fish; and, after he had said the blessing, he told the disciples to serve out these as well.
8 Sie aßen aber und wurden satt und huben die übrigen Brocken auf, sieben Körbe.
The people had sufficient to eat, and they picked up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left.
9 Und ihrer war bei viertausend, die da gegessen hatten; und er ließ sie von sich.
There were about four thousand people. Then Jesus dismissed them.
10 Und alsbald trat er in ein Schiff mit seinen Jüngern und kam in die Gegend Dalmanuthas.
Immediately afterward, getting into the boat with his disciples, Jesus went to the district of Dalmanutha.
11 Und die Pharisäer gingen heraus und fingen an, sich mit ihm zu befragen, versuchten ihn und begehrten von ihm ein Zeichen vom Himmel.
Here the Pharisees came out, and began to argue with Jesus, asking him for some sign from the heavens, to test him.
12 Und er seufzete in seinem Geist und sprach: Was sucht doch dies Geschlecht Zeichen? Wahrlich, ich sage euch, es wird diesem Geschlecht kein Zeichen gegeben.
Sighing deeply, Jesus said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? I tell you, no sign will be given it.”
13 Und er ließ sie und trat wiederum in das Schiff und fuhr herüber.
So he left them to themselves, and, getting into the boat again, went away to the opposite shore.
14 Und sie hatten vergessen, Brot mit sich zu nehmen, und hatten nicht mehr mit sich im Schiff denn ein Brot.
Now the disciples had forgotten to take any bread with them, one loaf being all that they had in the boat.
15 Und er gebot ihnen und sprach: Schauet zu und sehet euch vor vor dem Sauerteig der Pharisäer und vor dem Sauerteig Herodes!
So Jesus gave them this warning. “Take care,” he said, “beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”
16 Und sie gedachten hin und wieder und sprachen untereinander: Das ist's, daß wir nicht Brot haben.
They began talking to one another about their being short of bread;
17 Und Jesus vernahm das und sprach zu ihnen: Was bekümmert ihr euch doch, daß ihr nicht Brot habt? Vernehmet ihr noch nichts und seid noch nicht verständig? Habt ihr noch ein verstarret Herz in euch?
and, noticing this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you talking about your being short of bread? Don’t you yet see or understand? Are your minds still so slow or comprehension?
18 Habt Augen und sehet nicht und habt Ohren und höret nicht und denket nicht daran,
Though you have eyes, do you not see? And though you have ears, do you not hear? Don’t you remember,
19 da ich fünf Brote brach unter fünftausend, wieviel Körbe voll Brocken hubet ihr da auf? Sie sprachen: Zwölf.
when I broke up the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets of broken pieces you picked up?” “Twelve,” they said.
20 Da ich aber die sieben brach unter die viertausend, wieviel Körbe voll Brocken hubet ihr da auf? Sie sprachen: Sieben.
“And when the seven for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of broken pieces did you pick up?” “Seven,” they said.
21 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Wie vernehmet ihr denn nichts?
“Don’t you understand now?” he repeated.
22 Und er kam gen Bethsaida. Und sie brachten zu ihm einen Blinden und baten ihn, daß er ihn anrührete.
They came to Bethsaida. There some people brought a blind man to Jesus, and begged him to touch him.
23 Und er nahm den Blinden bei der Hand und führete ihn hinaus vor den Flecken und spützete in seine Augen und legte seine Hände auf ihn, und fragte ihn, ober etwas sähe.
Taking the blind man’s hand, Jesus led him to the outskirts of the village, and, when he had put saliva on the man’s eyes, he placed his hands on him, and asked him, “Do you see anything?”
24 Und er sah auf und sprach: Ich sehe Menschen gehen, als sähe ich Bäume.
The man looked up, and said, “I see the people, for, as they walk about, they look to me like trees.”
25 Danach legte er abermal die Hände auf seine Augen und hieß ihn abermal sehen; und er ward wieder zurechtgebracht, daß er alles scharf sehen konnte.
Then Jesus again placed his hands on the man’s eyes; and the man saw clearly, his sight was restored, and he saw everything with perfect distinctness.
26 Und er schickte ihn heim und sprach: Gehe nicht hinein in den Flecken und sage es auch niemand drinnen.
Jesus sent him to his home, and said, “Do not go even into the village.”
27 Und Jesus ging aus und seine Jünger in die Märkte der Stadt Cäsarea - Philippi. Und auf dem Wege fragte er seine Jünger und sprach zu ihnen: Wer sagen die Leute, daß ich sei?
Afterward Jesus and his disciples went into the villages around Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples this question – “Who do people say that I am?”
28 Sie antworteten: Sie sagen, du seiest Johannes der Täufer; etliche sagen, du seiest Elia; etliche, du seiest der Propheten einer.
“John the Baptist,” they answered, “but others say Elijah, while others say one of the prophets.”
29 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Ihr aber, wer sagt ihr, daß ich sei? Da antwortete Petrus und sprach zu ihm: Du bist Christus.
“But you,” he asked, “who do you say that I am?” To this Peter replied, “You are the Christ.”
30 Und er bedräuete sie, daß sie niemand von ihm sagen sollten.
At which Jesus charged them not to say this about him to anyone.
31 Und hub an, sie zu lehren: Des Menschen Sohn muß viel leiden und verworfen werden von den Ältesten und Hohenpriestern und Schriftgelehrten und getötet werden und über drei Tage auferstehen.
Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man must undergo much suffering, and that he must be rejected by the elders, and the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law, and be put to death, and rise again after three days.
32 Und er redete das Wort frei offenbar. Und Petrus nahm ihn zu sich, fing an, ihm zu wehren.
He said all this quite openly. But Peter took Jesus aside, and began to rebuke him.
33 Er aber wandte sich um und sah seine Jünger an und bedräuete Petrus und sprach: Geh hinter mich, du Satan! Denn du meinest nicht, was göttlich, sondern was menschlich ist.
Jesus, however, turning around and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter. “Out of my sight, Satan!” he exclaimed. “For you look at things, not as God does, but as people do.”
34 Und er rief zu sich das Volk samt seinen Jüngern und sprach zu ihnen: Wer mir will nach folgen, der verleugne sich selbst und nehme sein Kreuz auf sich und folge mir nach.
Calling the people and his disciples to him, Jesus said, “If anyone wishes to walk in my steps, they must renounce self, take up their cross, and follow me.
35 Denn wer sein Leben will behalten der wird's verlieren; und wer sein Leben verlieret um meinet und des Evangeliums willen, der wird's behalten.
For whoever wishes to save their life will lose it, and whoever, for my sake and for the sake of the good news, will lose their life will save it.
36 Was hülfe es dem Menschen, wenn er die ganze Welt gewönne und nähme an seiner Seele Schaden?
What good is it to a person to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?
37 Oder was kann der Mensch geben, damit er seine Seele löse?
For what could a person give that is of equal value with their life?
38 Wer sich aber mein und meiner Worte schämet unter diesem ehebrecherischen und sündigen Geschlecht, des wird sich auch des Menschen Sohn schämen, wenn er kommen wird in der HERRLIchkeit seines Vaters mit den heiligen Engeln.
Whoever is ashamed of me and of my teaching, in this unfaithful and wicked generation, of them will the Son of Man be ashamed, when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
