Job 29
1 Und Hiob hub abermal an seine Sprüche und sprach:
And Job again took up his measure, and said,
2 O daß ich wäre wie in den vorigen Monden, in den Tagen, da mich Gott behütete,
Oh that it were with me as in the months of old, as in the days, when, GOD, used to watch over me;
3 da seine Leuchte über meinem Haupte schien, und ich bei seinem Licht in der Finsternis ging;
When his lamp shone over my head, by whose light, I could go through darkness;
4 wie ich war zur Zeit meiner Jugend, da Gottes Geheimnis über meiner Hütte war;
As I was, in the days of my prime, when, the intimacy of GOD, was over my tent;
5 da der Allmächtige noch mit mir war und meine Kinder um mich her;
While yet the Almighty was with me, round about me, were my young men;
6 da ich meine Tritte wusch in Butter, und die Felsen mir Ölbäche gossen;
When my steps were bathed in milk, and, the rock, poured out beside me, rivulets of oil:
7 da ich ausging zum Tor in der Stadt und ließ meinen Stuhl auf der Gasse bereiten;
When I went out to the gate unto the city, in the open place, made ready my seat,
8 da mich die Jungen sahen und sich versteckten, und die Alten vor mir aufstunden;
Young men saw me, and hid themselves, and, the aged, arose—they stood;
9 da die Obersten aufhöreten zu reden, und legten ihre Hand auf ihren Mund;
Rulers, restrained speech, and, a hand, laid they on their mouth;
10 da die Stimme der Fürsten sich verkroch, und ihre Zunge an ihrem Gaumen klebte.
The voice of nobles, was hushed, and their tongue to their palate, did cleave;
11 Denn welches Ohr mich hörete, der preisete mich selig, und welches Auge mich sah, der rühmte mich.
When, the ear, heard, then it pronounced me happy, When, the eye, saw, then it bare me witness;
12 Denn ich errettete den Armen, der da schrie, und den Waisen, der keinen Helfer hatte.
Because I used to deliver the oppressed who was crying out for aid, the fatherless also, and him that had no helper;
13 Der Segen des, der verderben sollte, kam über mich; und ich erfreuete das Herz der Witwe.
The blessing of him that was ready to perish, upon me was wont to descend, and, the heart of the widow, caused I to sing for joy;
14 Gerechtigkeit war mein Kleid, das ich anzog wie einen Rock; und mein Recht war mein fürstlicher Hut.
Righteousness, I put on, and it clothed me, Like a robe and turban, was my, justice;
15 Ich war des Blinden Auge und des Lahmen Füße.
Eyes, became I to the, blind, and, feet to the lame, was, I!
16 Ich war ein Vater der Armen; und welche Sache ich nicht wußte, die erforschete ich.
A father, was, I, to the needy, and, as for the cause which I knew not, I used to search it out;
17 Ich zerbrach die Backenzähne des Ungerechten und riß den Raub aus seinen Zähnen.
And I shivered the fangs of the perverse, —and, out of his teeth, I tare the prey.
18 Ich gedachte: Ich will in meinem Nest ersterben und meiner Tage viel machen wie Sand.
Then said I, Like a stem, shall I grow old, yea, as the sand, shall I multiply days:
19 Meine Saat ging auf am Wasser; und der Tau blieb über meiner Ernte.
My root, is laid open to the waters, and, the dew, shall lodge for the night in my boughs;
20 Meine HERRLIchkeit erneuerte sich immer an mir; und mein Bogen besserte sich in meiner Hand.
Mine honour, shall be young again with me, and, my bow, in my hand, be renewed.
21 Man hörete mir zu, und schwiegen und warteten auf meinen Rat.
To me, men hearkened, and waited, and kept silence for my counsel;
22 Nach meinen Worten redete niemand mehr; und meine Rede troff auf sie.
After I had spoken, they spake not again, and, upon them, used my speech to drop;
23 Sie warteten auf mich wie auf den Regen und sperreten ihren Mund auf als nach dem Abendregen.
And they waited, as for rain, for me, and, their mouths, they opened wide for the spring-rain;
24 Wenn ich sie anlachte, wurden sie nicht zu kühn darauf, und das Licht meines Angesichts machte mich nicht geringer.
I laughed at them—they lost confidence, and, the light of my countenance, they suffered not to fail;
25 Wenn ich zu ihrem Geschäfte wollte kommen, so mußte ich obenan sitzen und wohnete wie ein König unter Kriegsknechten, da ich tröstete, die Leid trugen.
I chose out their way, and sat chief, —and abode, as king, in an army, as one who, to mourners, giveth comfort.
