Job 23
1 Hiob antwortete und sprach:
Then Job answered,
2 Meine Rede bleibet noch betrübt; meine Macht ist schwach über meinem Seufzen.
"Even today my complaint is rebellious. His hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.
3 Ach, daß ich wüßte, wie ich ihn finden und zu seinem Stuhl kommen möchte
Oh that I knew where I might find him. That I might come even to his seat.
4 und das Recht vor ihm sollte vorlegen und den Mund voll Strafe fassen
I would set my cause in order before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.
5 und erfahren die Rede, die er mir antworten, und vernehmen, was er mir sagen würde!
I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would tell me.
6 Will er mit großer Macht mit mir rechten? Er stelle sich nicht so gegen mich,
Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? No, but he would listen to me.
7 sondern lege mir's gleich vor, so will ich mein Recht wohl gewinnen.
There the upright might reason with him, so I should be delivered forever from my judge.
8 Aber gehe ich nun stracks vor mich, so ist er nicht da; gehe ich zurück, so spüre ich ihn nicht.
"If I go east, he is not there; if west, I can't find him;
9 Ist er zur Linken, so ergreife ich ihn nicht; verbirget er sich zur Rechten, so sehe ich ihn nicht.
He works to the north, but I can't see him. He turns south, but I can't catch a glimpse of him.
10 Er aber kennet meinen Weg wohl. Er versuche mich, so will ich erfunden werden wie das Gold.
But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I shall come forth like gold.
11 Denn ich setze meinen Fuß auf seine Bahn und halte seinen Weg und weiche nicht ab
My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned aside.
12 und trete nicht von dem Gebot seiner Lippen; und bewahre die Rede seines Mundes mehr, denn ich schuldig bin.
I haven't gone back from the commandment of his lips. I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
13 Er ist einig, wer will ihm antworten? Und er macht es, wie er will.
But he stands alone, and who can oppose him? What his soul desires, even that he does.
14 Und wenn er mir gleich vergilt, was ich verdienet habe, so ist sein noch mehr dahinten.
For he performs that which is appointed for me. Many such things are with him.
15 Darum erschrecke ich vor ihm; und wenn ich's merke, so fürchte ich mich vor ihm.
Therefore I am terrified at his presence. When I consider, I am afraid of him.
16 Gott hat mein Herz blöde gemacht, und der Allmächtige hat mich erschrecket.
For God has made my heart faint. Shaddai has terrified me.
17 Denn die Finsternis macht kein Ende mit mir, und das Dunkel will vor mir nicht verdeckt werden.
Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither did he cover the thick darkness from my face.
