Esra 5
1 Es weissagten aber die Propheten Haggai und Sacharja, der Sohn Iddos, zu den Juden, die in Juda und Jerusalem waren, im Namen des Gottes Israels.
Forsothe Aggei, the prophete, and Zacharie, the prophete, the sone of Ado, prophesieden, prophesiynge in the name of God of Israel, to the Jewis that weren in Juda and Jerusalem.
2 Da machten sich auf Serubabel, der Sohn Sealthiels, und Jesua, der Sohn Jozadaks, und fingen an zu bauen das Haus Gottes zu Jerusalem, und mit ihnen die Propheten Gottes, die sie stärkten.
Thanne Zorobabel, the sone of Salatiel, and Josue, the sone of Josedech, risiden, and bigunnen to bilde the temple of God in Jerusalem; and with hem rysyden the prophetis of God, helpynge hem.
3 Zu der Zeit kam zu ihnen Thathnai, der Landpfleger diesseit des Wassers, und Sthar-Bosnai und ihr Rat und sprachen also zu ihnen: Wer hat euch befohlen, dies Haus zu bauen und seine Mauern zu machen?
Forsothe in that tyme Tatannai, that was duyk biyende the flood, and Starbusannay, and the counselouris of hem, camen to hem, and seiden thus to hem, Who yaf counsel to you to bilde this hows, and to restore these wallis?
4 Da sagten wir ihnen wie die Männer hießen, die diesen Bau täten.
To which thing we answeriden to hem, whiche weren the names of men, autours of that bildyng.
5 Aber das Auge ihres Gottes kam auf die Ältesten der Juden, daß ihnen nicht gewehret ward, bis daß man die Sache an Darium gelangen ließe und darüber eine Schrift wiederkäme.
Forsothe the iye of God of hem was maad on the elde men of Jewis, and thei myyten not forbede the Jewis; and it pleside that the thing schulde be teld to Darius, and thanne thei schulden make satisfaccioun ayens that accusyng.
6 Dies ist aber der Inhalt des Briefes Thathnais, des Landpflegers diesseit des Wassers, und Sthar-Bosnais und ihres Rats von Apharsach, die diesseit des Wassers waren, an den König Darium.

7 Und die Worte, die sie zu ihm sandten, lauten also: Dem Könige Dario allen Frieden!
The word which thei senten to hym was writun thus; Al pees be to the kyng Darius.
8 Es sei kund dem Könige, daß wir ins jüdische Land kommen sind zu dem Hause des großen Gottes, welches man bauet mit allerlei Steinen, und Balken leget man in die Wände, und das Werk gehet frisch vonstatten unter ihrer Hand.
Be it knowun to the kyng, that we yeden to the prouince of Judee, to the hows of greet God, which is bildid with stoon vnpolischid, and trees ben set in the wallis, and thilke werk is bildid diligently, and encreessith in the hondis of hem.
9 Wir aber haben die Ältesten gefragt und zu ihnen gesagt also: Wer hat euch befohlen, dies Haus zu bauen und seine Mauern zu machen?
Therfor we axiden tho elde men, and thus we seiden to hem, Who yaf to you power to bilde this hows, and to restore these wallis?
10 Auch fragten wir, wie sie hießen, auf daß wir sie dir kundtäten, und haben die Namen beschrieben der Männer, die ihre Obersten waren.
But also we axiden of hem the names `of hem, that we schulden telle to thee; and we han write the names of men, whiche thei ben, that ben princes among hem.
11 Sie aber gaben uns solche Worte zur Antwort und sprachen: Wir sind Knechte des Gottes Himmels und der Erde und bauen das Haus, das vorhin vor vielen Jahren gebauet war, das ein großer König Israels gebauet hat und aufgerichtet.

12 Aber da unsere Väter den Gott vom Himmel erzürneten, gab er sie in die Hand Nebukadnezars, des Königs zu Babel, des Chaldäers; der zerbrach dies Haus und führete das Volk weg gen Babel.
But aftir that oure fadris stiryden God of heuene and of erthe to wrathfulnesse, bothe he bitook hem in the hond of Nabugodonosor, Caldey, kyng of Babiloyne; and he distriede this hows, and translatide the puple therof in to Babiloyne.
13 Aber im ersten Jahr Kores, des Königs zu Babel, befahl derselbe König Kores, dies Haus Gottes zu bauen.
Forsothe in the firste yeer of Cirus, king of Babiloyne, Cirus, the king of Babiloyne, settide forth `a comaundement, that the hows of God schulde be bildid.
14 Denn auch die güldenen und silbernen Gefäße im Hause Gottes, die Nebukadnezar aus dem Tempel zu Jerusalem nahm und brachte sie in den Tempel zu Babel, nahm der König Kores aus dem Tempel zu Babel und gab sie Sesbazar mit Namen, den er zum Landpfleger setzte;
For whi kyng Cirus brouyte forth `fro the temple of Babiloyne also the goldun and siluerne vessels of Goddis temple, whiche Nabugodonosor hadde take fro the temple, that was in Jerusalem, and hadde bore tho awei in to the temple of Babiloyne; and tho vessels weren youun to Sasabazar bi name, whom `he made also prince. And Cirus seide to hym, Take these vessels,
15 und sprach zu ihm: Diese Gefäße nimm, zeuch hin und bringe sie in den Tempel zu Jerusalem und laß das Haus Gottes bauen an seiner Stätte.
and go, and sette tho in the temple, which is in Jerusalem; and the hows of God be bildid in `his place.
16 Da kam derselbe Sesbazar und legte den Grund am Hause Gottes zu Jerusalem. Seit der Zeit bauet man, und ist noch nicht vollendet.
Therfor thanne thilke Sasabazar cam, and settide the foundementis of Goddis temple in Jerusalem; and fro that tyme `til to now it is bildid, and is not yit fillid.
17 Gefällt es nun dem Könige, so lasse er suchen in dem Schatzhause des Königs, das zu Babel ist, ob's von dem Könige Kores befohlen sei, das Haus Gottes zu Jerusalem zu bauen, und sende zu uns des Königs Meinung über diesem.
Now therfor if it `semeth good to the king, rikene he in the biblet of the kyng, which is in Babiloyne, whether it be comaundid of kyng Cyrus, that Goddis hows schulde be bildid in Jerusalem; and sende he to vs the wille of the kyng `on this thing.
