5 Mose 19

1 Wenn der HERR, dein Gott, die Völker ausgerottet hat, welcher Land dir der HERR, dein Gott, geben wird, daß du sie einnehmest, und in ihren Städten und Häusern wohnest,

And when the Lord your God shall have destroyed the nations, which God gives you, [even] the land, and you shall inherit them, and dwell in their cities, and in their houses,

2 sollst du dir drei Städte aussondern im Lande, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, geben wird einzunehmen.

you shall separate for yourself three cities in the midst of your land, which the Lord your God gives you.

3 Und sollst gelegene Orte wählen und die Grenze deines Landes, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, austeilen wird, in drei Kreise scheiden, daß dahin fliehe, wer einen Totschlag getan hat.

Take a survey of your way, and you shall divide the coasts of your land, which the Lord your God apportions to you, into three parts, and there shall be there a refuge for every manslayer.

4 Und das soll die Sache sein, daß dahin fliehe, der einen Totschlag getan hat, daß er lebendig bleibe: Wenn jemand seinen Nächsten schlägt, nicht vorsätzlich, und hat vorhin keinen Haß auf ihn gehabt,

And this shall be the ordinance of the manslayer, who shall flee there, and shall live, whoever shall have struck his neighbour ignorantly, whereas he hated him not in times past.

5 sondern als wenn jemand mit seinem Nächsten in den Wald ginge, Holz zu hauen, und holete mit der Hand die Axt aus, das Holz abzuhauen, und das Eisen führe vom Stiel und träfe seinen Nächsten, daß er stürbe, der soll in dieser Städte eine fliehen, daß er lebendig bleibe,

And whoever shall enter with his neighbour into the thicket, to gather wood, if the hand of him that cuts wood with the axe should be violently shaken, and the axe head falling off from the handle should light on his neighbour, and he should die, he shall flee to one of these cities, and live.

6 auf daß nicht der Bluträcher dem Totschläger nachjage, weil sein Herz erhitzt ist, und ergreife ihn, weil der Weg so ferne ist, und schlage ihm seine Seele, so doch kein Urteil des Todes an ihm ist, weil er keinen Haß vorhin zu ihm getragen hat.

Lest the avenger of blood pursue after the slayer, because his heart is hot, and overtake him, if the way be too long, and kill him, though there is to this man no sentence of death, because he hated him not in time past.

7 Darum gebiete ich dir, daß du drei Städte aussonderst.

Therefore I charge you, saying, You shall separate for your self three cities.

8 Und so der HERR, dein Gott, deine Grenze weitern wird, wie er deinen Vätern geschworen hat, und gibt dir alles Land, das er geredet hat, deinen Vätern zu geben

And if the Lord shall enlarge your borders, as he sware to your fathers, and the Lord shall give to you all the land which he said he would give to your fathers;

9 (so du anders alle diese Gebote halten wirst, daß du danach tust, die ich dir heute gebiete, daß du den HERRN, deinen Gott, liebest und in seinen Wegen wandelst dein Leben lang), so sollst du noch drei Städte tun zu diesen dreien,

if you shall listen to do all these commands, which I charge you this day, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways continually; you shall add for yourself yet three cities to these three.

10 auf daß nicht unschuldig Blut in deinem Lande vergossen werde, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, gibt zum Erbe, und kommen Blutschulden auf dich.

So innocent blood shall not be spilt in the land, which the Lord your God gives you to inherit, and there shall not be in you one guilty of blood.

11 Wenn aber jemand Haß trägt wider seinen Nächsten und lauert auf ihn und macht sich über ihn und schlägt ihm seine Seele tot und fleucht in dieser Städte eine,

But if there should be in you a man hating his neighbour, and he should lay wait for him, and rise up against him, and strike him, that he die, and he should flee to one of these cities,

12 so sollen die Ältesten in seiner Stadt hinschicken und ihn von dannen holen lassen und ihn in die Hände des Bluträchers geben, daß er sterbe.

then shall the elders of his city send, and take him thence, and they shall deliver him into the hands of the avengers of blood, and he shall die.

13 Deine Augen sollen sein nicht verschonen, und sollst das unschuldige Blut aus Israel tun, daß dir's wohlgehe.

Your eye shall not spare him; so shall you purge innocent blood from Israel, and it shall be well with you.

14 Du sollst deines Nächsten Grenze nicht zurücktreiben, die die Vorigen gesetzt haben in deinem Erbteil, das du erbest im Lande das dir der HERR, dein Gott, gegeben hat einzunehmen.

You shall not move the landmarks of your neighbour, which your fathers set in the inheritance, in which you have obtained a share in the land, which the Lord your God gives you to inherit.

15 Es soll kein einzelner Zeuge wider jemand auftreten über irgend einer Missetat oder Sünde, es sei, welcherlei Sünde es sei, die man tun kann, sondern in dem Munde zweier oder dreier Zeugen soll die Sache bestehen.

One witness shall not stand to testify against a man for any iniquity, or for any fault, or for any sin which he may commit; by the mouth of two witnesses, or by the mouth of three witnesses, shall every word be established.

16 Wenn ein freveler Zeuge wider jemand auftritt, über ihn zu bezeugen eine Übertretung,

And if an unjust witness rise up against a man, alleging iniquity against him;

17 so sollen die beiden Männer, die eine Sache miteinander haben, vor dem HERRN, vor den Priestern und Richtern stehen, die zur selben Zeit sein werden;

then shall the two men between whom the controversy is, stand before the Lord, and before the priests, and before the judges, who may be in those days.

18 und die Richter sollen wohl forschen. Und wenn der falsche Zeuge hat ein falsch Zeugnis wider seinen Bruder gegeben,

And the judges shall make diligent enquiry, and, behold, [if] and unjust witness has borne unjust testimony; [and] has stood up against his brother;

19 so sollt ihr ihm tun, wie er gedachte seinem Bruder zu tun, daß du den Bösen von dir wegtust,

then shall you do to him as he wickedly devised to do against his brother, and you shall remove the evil from yourselves.

20 auf daß die andern hören, sich fürchten und nicht mehr solche böse Stücke vornehmen zu tun unter dir.

And the rest shall hear and fear, and do no more according to this evil thing in the midst of you.

21 Dein Auge soll sein nicht schonen. Seele um Seele, Auge um Auge, Zahn um Zahn, Hand um Hand, Fuß um Fuß.

Your eye shall not spare him: [you shall exact] life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
