2 Koenige 23

1 Und der König sandte hin, und es versammelten sich zu ihm alle Ältesten in Juda und Jerusalem.

So the king sent messengers who gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

2 Und der König ging hinauf ins Haus des HERRN, und alle Männer von Juda und alle Einwohner zu Jerusalem mit ihm, Priester und Propheten und alles Volk, beide klein und groß; und man las vor ihren Ohren alle Worte des Buchs vom Bunde, das im Hause des HERRN gefunden war.

Then the king went up to the house of Yahweh, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, prophets, and all the people, from small to great. He then read in their hearing all the words of the book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of Yahweh.

3 Und der König trat an eine Säule und machte einen Bund vor dem HERRN, daß sie sollten wandeln dem HERRN nach und halten seine Gebote, Zeugnisse und Rechte von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele, daß sie aufrichteten die Worte dieses Bundes, die geschrieben stunden in diesem Buch. Und alles Volk trat in den Bund.

The king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before Yahweh, to walk after Yahweh and to keep his commandments, his regulations, and his statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to confirm the words of this covenant that were written in this book. So all the people agreed to stand by the covenant.

4 Und der König gebot dem Hohenpriester Hilkia und den Priestern der andern Ordnung und den Hütern an der Schwelle, daß sie sollten aus dem Tempel des HERRN tun alles Gezeug, das dem Baal und dem Hain und allem Heer des Himmels gemacht war. Und verbrannten sie außen vor Jerusalem im Tal Kidron; und ihr Staub ward getragen gen Bethel.

The king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, the priests under him, and the gatekeepers to bring out of the temple of Yahweh all the vessels that were made for Baal and Asherah, and for all the stars of heaven. He burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields in the Kidron Valley and carried their ashes to Bethel.

5 Und er tat ab die Kamarim, welche die Könige Judas hatten gestiftet, zu räuchern auf den Höhen in den Städten Judas und um Jerusalem her, auch die Räucherer des Baal und der Sonne und des Mondes und der Planeten und alles Heers am Himmel.

He got rid of the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah had chosen to burn incense at the high places in the cities of Judah and in the places around Jerusalem—those who burned incense to Baal, to the sun and the moon, to the planets, and to all the stars of heaven.

6 Und ließ den Hain aus dem Hause des HERRN führen hinaus vor Jerusalem in den Bach Kidron, und verbrannten ihn im Bach Kidron und machte ihn zu Staub; und warf den Staub auf die Gräber der gemeinen Leute.

He brought out the Asherah pole from the temple of Yahweh, outside Jerusalem to the Kidron Valley and burned it there. He beat it to dust and threw that dust onto the graves of the common people.

7 Und er brach ab die Häuser der Hurer, die an dem Hause des HERRN waren, darinnen die Weiber wirkten Häuser zum Hain.

He cleared out the rooms of the cultic prostitutes who were in the temple of Yahweh, where the women wove garments for Asherah.

8 Und er ließ kommen alle Priester aus den Städten Judas und verunreinigte die Höhen, da die Priester räucherten, von Geba an bis gen Berseba; und brach ab die Höhen in den Toren, die in der Tür des Tors waren Josuas, des Stadtvogts, welches war zur Linken, wenn man zum Tor der Stadt gehet.

Josiah brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba. He destroyed the high places at the gates that were at the entrance to the gate of Joshua (the city governor), on the left side of the city gate.

9 Doch hatten die Priester der Höhen nie geopfert auf dem Altar des HERRN zu Jerusalem, sondern aßen des ungesäuerten Brots unter ihren Brüdern.

Although the priests of those high places were not allowed to serve at the altar of Yahweh in Jerusalem, they ate unleavened bread among their brothers.

10 Er verunreinigte auch das Thopheth im Tal der Kinder Hinnom, daß niemand seinen Sohn oder seine Tochter dem Molech durchs Feuer ließe gehen.

Josiah defiled Topheth, which is in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, so that no one might cause his son or his daughter to pass through the fire as a sacrifice to Molech.

11 Und tat ab die Rosse, welche die Könige Judas hatten der Sonne gesetzt im Eingange des HERRN Hauses an der Kammer Nethan-Melechs, des Kämmerers, der zu Parwarim war; und die Wagen der Sonne verbrannte er mit Feuer.

He took away the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun. They had been in an area at the entrance to the temple of Yahweh, near the room of Nathan-Melek, the chamberlain. Josiah burned the chariots of the sun.

12 Und die Altäre auf dem Dache im Saal Ahas, die die Könige Judas gemacht hatten, und die Altäre, die Manasse gemacht hatte in den zweien Höfen des HERRN Hauses, brach der König ab; und lief von dannen und warf ihren Staub in den Bach Kidron.

Josiah the king destroyed the altars that were on the roof of the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars that Manasseh had made in the two courts of the temple of Yahweh. Josiah smashed them into pieces and threw them into the Kidron Valley.

13 Auch die Höhen, die vor Jerusalem waren, zur Rechten am Berge Mashith, die Salomo, der König Israels, gebauet hatte Asthoreth, dem Greuel von Zidon, und Kamos, dem Greuel von Moab, und Milkom, dem Greuel der Kinder Ammon, verunreinigte der König.

The king ruined the high places east of Jerusalem, south of the mount of corruption that Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth, the detestable idol of the Sidonians; for Chemosh, the detestable idol of Moab; and for Molech, the detestable idol of the people of Ammon.

14 Und zerbrach die Säulen und rottete aus die Haine und füllete ihre Stätte mit Menschenknochen.

He broke the stone pillars into pieces and cut down the Asherah poles and he filled those places with the bones of human beings.

15 Auch den Altar zu Bethel, die Höhe, die Jerobeam gemacht hatte, der Sohn Nebats, der Israel sündigen machte, denselben Altar brach er ab und die Höhe; und verbrannte die Höhe und machte sie zu Staub und verbrannte den Hain.

Josiah also completely destroyed the altar that was at Bethel and the high place that Jeroboam son of Nebat (the one who made Israel to sin) had constructed. He also burned that altar and the high place and beat it to dust. He also burned the Asherah pole.

16 Und Josia wandte sich und sah die Gräber, die da waren auf dem Berge; und sandte hin und ließ die Knochen aus den Gräbern holen und verbrannte sie auf dem Altar und verunreinigte ihn nach dem Wort des HERRN, das der Mann Gottes ausgerufen hatte, der solches ausrief.

As Josiah looked over the area, he noticed the graves that were on the hillside. He sent men to take the bones from the graves; then he burned them on the altar, which defiled it. This was according to the word of Yahweh which the man of God had spoken, the man who spoke of these things beforehand.

17 Und er sprach: Was ist das für ein Grabmal, das ich sehe? Und die Leute in der Stadt sprachen zu ihm: Es ist das Grab des Mannes Gottes, der von Juda kam und rief solches aus, das du getan hast, wider den Altar zu Bethel.

Then he said, “What monument is that I see?” The men of the city told him, “That is the grave of the man of God who came from Judah and spoke about these things that you have just done against the altar of Bethel.”

18 Und er sprach: Laßt ihn liegen; niemand bewege seine Gebeine! Also wurden seine Gebeine errettet mit den Gebeinen des Propheten, der von Samaria kommen war.

So Josiah said, “Let it alone. No one should move his bones.” So they let his bones alone, along with the bones of the prophet who had come from Samaria.

19 Er tat auch weg alle Häuser der Höhen in den Städten Samarias, welche die Könige Israels gemacht hatten zu erzürnen; und tat mit ihnen allerdinge, wie er zu Bethel getan hatte.

Then Josiah removed all the houses on the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made, and that provoked Yahweh to anger. He did to them exactly what had been done at Bethel.

20 Und er opferte alle Priester der Höhen, die daselbst waren, auf den Altären; und verbrannte also Menschenbeine drauf. Und kam wieder gen Jerusalem.

He slaughtered all the priests of the high places on the altars and he burned human bones on them. Then he returned to Jerusalem.

21 Und der König gebot dem Volk und sprach: Haltet dem HERRN, eurem Gott, Passah, wie geschrieben stehet im Buch dieses Bundes.

Then the king commanded all the people, saying, “Keep the Passover to Yahweh your God, as it is written in this Book of the Covenant.”

22 Denn es war kein Passah so gehalten, als dieses, von der Richter Zeit an, die Israel gerichtet haben, und in allen Zeiten der Könige Israels und der Könige Judas,

Such a Passover celebration had never been held from the days of the judges who ruled Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel or Judah.

23 sondern im achtzehnten Jahr des Königs Josia ward dies Passah gehalten dem HERRN zu Jerusalem.

But in the eighteenth year of King Josiah this Passover of Yahweh was celebrated in Jerusalem.

24 Auch fegte Josia aus alle Wahrsager, Zeichendeuter, Bilder und Götzen und alle Greuel, die im Lande Juda und zu Jerusalem ersehen wurden, auf daß er aufrichtete die Worte des Gesetzes, die geschrieben stunden im Buch, das Hilkia, der Priester, fand im Hause des HERRN.

Josiah also banished those who talked with the dead or with spirits. He also banished the fetishes, the idols, and all the disgusting things that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, so as to confirm the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest had found in the house of Yahweh.

25 Sein gleichen war vor ihm kein König gewesen, der so von ganzem Herzen, von ganzer Seele, von allen Kräften sich zum HERRN bekehrete nach allem Gesetz Moses; und nach ihm kam sein gleichen nicht auf.

Before Josiah, there had been no king like him, who turned to Yahweh with all his heart, all his soul, and all his might, who followed all the law of Moses. Nor did any king like Josiah arise after him.

26 Doch kehrete sich der HERR nicht von dem Grimm seines großen Zorns, damit er über Juda erzürnet war um aller der Reizungen willen, damit ihn Manasse gereizet hatte.

Nevertheless, Yahweh did not turn away from the burning of his fierce anger, which burned against Judah because of all that Manasseh had done to provoke him to anger.

27 Und der HERR sprach: Ich will Juda auch von meinem Angesicht tun, wie ich Israel weggetan habe; und will diese Stadt verwerfen, die ich erwählet hatte, nämlich Jerusalem und das Haus, davon ich gesagt habe: Mein Name soll daselbst sein.

So Yahweh said, “I will also remove Judah out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and I will throw away this city that I have chosen, Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, 'My name will be there.'”

28 Was aber mehr von Josia zu sagen ist, und alles, was er getan hat, siehe, das ist geschrieben in der Chronik der Könige Judas.

As for the other matters concerning Josiah, everything that he did, are they not written in the book of the events of the kings of Judah?

29 Zu seiner Zeit zog Pharao-Necho, der König in Ägypten, herauf wider den König von Assyrien an das Wasser Phrath. Aber der König Josia zog ihm entgegen und starb zu Megiddo, da er ihn gesehen hatte.

In his days, Pharaoh Necho, king of Egypt, went to fight against the king of Assyria at the Euphrates River. King Josiah went to meet Necho in battle, and Necho killed him at Megiddo.

30 Und seine Knechte führeten ihn tot von Megiddo und brachten ihn gen Jerusalem und begruben ihn in seinem Grabe. Und das Volk im Lande nahm Joahas, den Sohn Josias, und salbeten ihn und machten ihn zum Könige an seines Vaters Statt.

Josiah's servants carried him dead in a chariot from Megiddo, brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own grave. Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz son of Josiah, anointed him, and made him king in his father's place.

31 Dreiundzwanzig Jahre war Joahas alt, da er König ward, und regierete drei Monden zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Hamutal, eine Tochter Jeremias von Libna.

Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hamutal; she was the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

32 Und tat, das dem HERRN übel gefiel, wie seine Väter getan hatten.

Jehoahaz did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, like everything that his ancestors had done.

33 Aber Pharao-Necho fing ihn zu Riblath im Lande Hemath, daß er nicht regieren sollte zu Jerusalem; und legte eine Schätzung aufs Land, hundert Zentner Silbers und einen Zentner Goldes.

Pharaoh Necho put him in chains at Riblah in the land of Hamath, so that he might not reign in Jerusalem. Then Necho fined Judah one hundred talents of silver and one talent of gold.

34 Und Pharao-Necho machte zum Könige Eliakim, den Sohn Josias, anstatt seines Vaters Josia und wandte seinen Namen Jojakim. Aber Joahas nahm er und brachte ihn nach Ägypten; daselbst starb er.

Pharaoh Necho made Eliakim son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. But he took Jehoahaz away to Egypt, and Jehoahaz died there.

35 Und Jojakim gab das Silber und Gold Pharao; doch schätzte er das Land, daß er solch Silber gäbe nach Befehl Pharaos; einen jeglichen nach seinem Vermögen schätzte er am Silber und Gold unter dem Volk im Lande, daß er dem Pharao-Necho gäbe.

Jehoiakim paid the silver and gold to Pharaoh. In order to meet the demand of Pharaoh, Jehoikim taxed the land and he forced each man among the people of the land to pay him the silver and gold according to their assessments.

36 Fünfundzwanzig Jahre alt war Jojakim, da er König ward, und regierete elf Jahre zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Sebuda, eine Tochter Pedajas von Ruma.

Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zebidah; she was the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.

37 Und tat, das dem HERRN übel gefiel, wie seine Väter getan hatten.

Jehoiakim did what was evil in the sight of Yahweh, just as his ancestors had done.
