1 Auch fielen die Moabiter ab von Israel, da Ahab tot war.
After Ahab died, Moab rebelled against Israel.
2 Und Ahasja fiel durchs Gitter in seinem Saal zu Samaria und ward krank; und sandte Boten und sprach zu ihnen: Gehet hin und fraget Baal-Sebub, den Gott zu Ekron, ob ich von dieser Krankheit genesen werde.
Ahaziah had fallen through the lattice-work of his upper room in Samaria and had hurt himself badly. So he sent out messengers, telling them: “Go and ask Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I will get better from this injury.”
3 Aber der Engel des HERRN redete mit Elia, dem Thisbiten: Auf! und begegne den Boten des Königs zu Samaria und sprich zu ihnen: Ist denn nun kein Gott in Israel, daß ihr hingehet zu fragen Baal-Sebub, den Gott zu Ekron?
But the angel of the Lord told Elijah the Tishbite, “Go and meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, ‘Is it because there's no God in Israel that you're going to ask advice from Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?’
4 Darum so spricht der HERR: Du sollst nicht von dem Bette kommen, darauf du dich geleget hast, sondern sollst des Todes sterben. Und Elia ging weg.
So this is the Lord's answer: ‘You will not leave the bed on which you are lying. You're definitely going to die.’” And Elijah left.
5 Und da die Boten wieder zu ihm kamen, sprach er zu ihnen: Warum kommt ihr wieder?
The messengers returned to the king, and he asked them, “Why have you come back?”
6 Sie sprachen zu ihm: Es kam uns ein Mann herauf entgegen und sprach zu uns: Gehet wiederum hin zu dem Könige, der euch gesandt hat, und sprechet zu ihm: So spricht der HERR: Ist denn kein Gott in Israel, daß du hinsendest, zu fragen Baal-Sebub, den Gott zu Ekron? Darum sollst du nicht kommen von dem Bette, darauf du dich geleget hast, sondern sollst des Todes sterben.
“A man came and met us,” they replied. “He told us, ‘Go back to the king who sent you, and tell him, This is what the Lord says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to ask advice from Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? As a result you will not leave the bed on which you are lying. You're definitely going to die.’”
7 Er sprach zu ihnen: Wie war der Mann gestaltet, der euch begegnete und solches zu euch sagte?
“What was he like, this man who met you and told you all this?” the king asked.
8 Sie sprachen zu ihm: Er hatte eine rauche Haut an und einen ledernen Gürtel um seine Lenden. Er aber sprach: Es ist Elia, der Thisbiter.
“He was a hairy man wearing a leather belt around his waist,” they replied. “It's Elijah the Tishbite,” said the king.
9 Und er sandte hin zu ihm einen Hauptmann über fünfzig samt denselben Fünfzigen. Und da der zu ihm hinaufkam, siehe, da saß er oben auf dem Berge. Er aber sprach zu ihm: Du Mann Gottes, der König sagt: Du sollst herabkommen.
Then the king sent an army captain with fifty men to Elijah. The captain went up to Elijah, who was sitting on the top of a hill, and told him, “Man of God, the king orders you, ‘Come down!’”
10 Elia antwortete dem Hauptmann über fünfzig und sprach zu ihm: Bin ich ein Mann Gottes, so falle Feuer vom Himmel und fresse dich und deine Fünfzig. Da fiel Feuer vom Himmel und fraß ihn und seine Fünfzig.
Elijah replied to the captain, “If I am a man of God, then let fire fall from heaven and burn up you and your fifty men.” Fire fell from heaven and burned up the captain and his men.
11 Und er sandte wiederum einen andern Hauptmann über fünfzig zu ihm samt seinen Fünfzigen. Der antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Du Mann Gottes, so spricht der König: Komm eilends herab!
So the king sent another captain with his fifty men to Elijah. The captain said to Elijah, “Man of God, the king orders you, Come down immediately!”
12 Elia antwortete und sprach: Bin ich ein Mann Gottes, so falle Feuer vom Himmel und fresse dich und deine Fünfzig. Da fiel das Feuer Gottes vom Himmel und fraß ihn und seine Fünfzig.
Elijah replied to the captain, “If I am a man of God, then let fire fall from heaven and burn up you and your fifty men.” Fire fell from heaven and burned up the captain and his men.
13 Da sandte er wiederum den dritten Hauptmann über fünfzig samt seinen Fünfzigen. Da der zu ihm hinaufkam, beugte er seine Kniee gegen Elia und flehete ihm und sprach zu ihm: Du Mann Gottes, laß meine Seele und die Seele deiner Knechte, dieser Fünfzig, vor dir etwas gelten!
So the king sent a third captain with his fifty men. The third captain went up, kneeled before Elijah, and pleaded with him, “Man of God, please value my life and the lives of these fifty men.
14 Siehe, das Feuer ist vom Himmel gefallen und hat die ersten zween Hauptmänner über fünfzig mit ihren Fünfzigen gefressen; nun aber laß meine Seele etwas gelten vor dir!
Yes, fire has fallen from heaven and burned up the first two captains of fifty, along with all their men. But now please value my life!”
15 Da sprach der Engel des HERRN zu Elia: Gehe mit ihm hinab und fürchte dich nicht vor ihm! Und er machte sich auf und ging mit ihm hinab zum Könige.
Then the angel of the Lord told Elijah, “Go down with him. You don't have to be afraid of him.” So Elijah got up and went down with him to the king.
16 Und er sprach zu ihm: So spricht der HERR: Darum, daß du hast Boten hingesandt und lassen fragen Baal-Sebub, den Gott zu Ekron, als wäre kein Gott in Israel, des Wort man fragen möchte, so sollst du von dem Bette nicht kommen, darauf du dich geleget hast, sondern sollst des Todes sterben.
Elijah told the king, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Is it because there's no God in Israel for you to consult that you have sent messengers to ask advice of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? As a result you will not leave the bed on which you are lying. You're definitely going to die.”
17 Also starb er nach dem Wort des HERRN, das Elia geredet hatte. Und Joram ward König an seiner Statt im andern Jahr Jorams, des Sohns Josaphats, des Königs Judas; denn er hatte keinen Sohn.
Ahaziah died just as the Lord had said through Elijah. Because he had no son, Joram succeeded him as king in the second year of the reign of Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah.
