2 Korinther 10

1 Ich aber, Paulus, ermahne euch durch die Sanftmütigkeit und Lindigkeit Christi, der ich gegenwärtig unter euch gering bin, im Abwesen aber bin ich türstig gegen euch.

Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:

2 Ich bitte aber, daß mir nicht not sei, gegenwärtig türstig zu handeln und der Kühnheit zu brauchen, die man mir zumisset, gegen etliche, die uns schätzen, als wandelten wir fleischlicherweise.

But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, with which I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.

3 Denn ob wir wohl im Fleisch wandeln, so streiten wir doch nicht fleischlicherweise.

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4 Denn die Waffen unserer Ritterschaft sind nicht fleischlich, sondern mächtig vor Gott, zu zerstören die Befestungen,

(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; )

5 damit wir zerstören die Anschläge und alle Höhe, die sich erhebet wider die Erkenntnis Gottes und nehmen gefangen alle Vernunft unter den Gehorsam Christi

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

6 und sind bereit, zu rächen allen Ungehorsam, wenn euer Gehorsam erfüllet ist.

And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

7 Richtet ihr nach dem Ansehen? Verläßt sich jemand darauf, daß er Christo angehöre, der denke solches, auch wieder um bei ihm, daß, gleichwie er Christo angehöret, also gehören wir auch Christo an.

Do you look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s.

8 Und so ich auch etwas weiter, mich rühmete von unserer Gewalt, welche uns der HERR gegeben hat, euch zu bessern und nicht zu verderben, wollte ich nicht zuschanden werden.

For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord has given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:

9 (Das sage ich aber, ) daß ihr nicht euch dünken lasset, als hätte ich euch wollen schrecken mit Briefen.

That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.

10 Denn die Briefe (sprechen, sie) sind schwer und stark; aber die Gegenwärtigkeit des Leibes ist schwach und die Rede verächtlich.

For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.

11 Wer ein solcher ist, der denke, daß wie wir sind mit Worten in den Briefen im Abwesen, so dürfen wir auch wohl sein mit der Tat gegenwärtig.

Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.

12 Denn wir dürfen uns nicht unter die rechnen oder zählen, so sich selbst loben; aber dieweil sie sich bei sich selbst messen und halten allein von sich selbst, verstehen sie nichts.

For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

13 Wir aber rühmen uns nicht über das Ziel, sondern nur nach dem Ziel der Regel, damit uns Gott abgemessen hat das Ziel, zu gelangen auch bis an euch.

But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God has distributed to us, a measure to reach even to you.

14 Denn wir fahren nicht zu weit, als wären wir nicht gelanget bis zu euch; denn wir sind ja auch bis zu euch kommen mit dem Evangelium Christi.

For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not to you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:

15 Und rühmen uns nicht über das Ziel in fremder Arbeit und haben Hoffnung, wenn nun euer Glaube in euch gewachsen, daß wir unserer Regel nach wollen weiter kommen

Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men’s labors; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,

16 und das Evangelium auch predigen denen, die jenseit euch wohnen, und uns nicht rühmen in dem, was mit fremder Regel bereitet ist.

To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s line of things made ready to our hand.

17 Wer sich aber rühmet, der rühme sich des HERRN.

But he that glories, let him glory in the Lord.

18 Denn darum ist einer nicht tüchtig, daß er sich selbst lobet, sondern daß ihn der HERR lobet.

For not he that commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends.
