2 Chronik 13

1 Im achtzehnten Jahr des Königs Jerobeam ward Abia König in Juda

In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam, Abijah reigns over Judah;

2 und regierete drei Jahre zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Michaja, eine Tochter Uriels von Gibea. Und es erhub sich ein Streit zwischen Abia und Jerobeam.

he has reigned three years in Jerusalem (and the name of his mother [is] Michaiah daughter of Uriel, from Gibeah), and there has been war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

3 Und Abia rüstete sich zu dem Streit mit vierhunderttausend junger Mannschaft, starke Leute zum Kriege. Jerobeam aber rüstete sich, mit ihm zu streiten mit achthunderttausend junger Mannschaft, starke Leute.

And Abijah directs the war with a force of mighty men of war, four hundred thousand chosen men, and Jeroboam has set in array [for] battle with him, with eight hundred thousand chosen men, mighty men of valor.

4 Und Abia machte sich auf oben auf den Berg Zemaraim, welcher liegt auf dem Gebirge Ephraim, und sprach: Höret mir zu, Jerobeam, und das ganze Israel!

And Abijah rises up on the hill of Zemaraim that [is] in the hill-country of Ephraim, and says, “Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel!

5 Wisset ihr nicht, daß der HERR, der Gott Israels, hat das Königreich zu Israel David gegeben ewiglich, ihm und seinen Söhnen einen Salzbund?

Is it not for you to know that YHWH, God of Israel, has given the kingdom over Israel to David for all time, to him and to his sons—a covenant of salt?

6 Aber Jerobeam, der Sohn Nebats, der Knecht Salomos, Davids Sohns, warf sich auf und ward seinem HERRN abtrünnig.

And Jeroboam, son of Nebat, servant of Solomon son of David, rises up and rebels against his lord!

7 Und haben sich zu ihm geschlagen lose Leute und Kinder Belials und haben sich gestärket wider Rehabeam, den Sohn Salomos. Denn Rehabeam war jung und eines blöden Herzens, daß er sich vor ihnen nicht wehrete.

And vain men are gathered to him, sons of worthlessness, and they strengthen themselves against Rehoboam son of Solomon, and Rehoboam was a youth, and tender of heart, and has not strengthened himself against them.

8 Nun denket ihr euch zu setzen wider das Reich des HERRN unter den Söhnen Davids, weil euer ein großer Haufe ist, und habt güldene Kälber, die euch Jerobeam für Götter gemacht hat.

And now you are saying to strengthen yourselves before the kingdom of YHWH in the hand of the sons of David, and you [are] a numerous multitude, and calves of gold [are] with you that Jeroboam has made for you for gods.

9 Habt ihr nicht die Priester des HERRN, die Kinder Aarons und die Leviten, ausgestoßen und habt euch eigene Priester gemacht, wie die Völker in Landen? Wer da kommt, seine Hand zu füllen mit einem jungen Farren und sieben Widdern, der wird Priester derer, die nicht Götter sind.

Have you not cast out the priests of YHWH, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and make priests for yourselves like the peoples of the lands? Everyone who has come to fill his hand with a bullock, a son of the herd, and seven rams, even he has been a priest for [those which are] not gods!

10 Mit uns aber ist der HERR, unser Gott, den wir nicht verlassen; und die Priester, die dem HERRN dienen, die Kinder Aarons und die Leviten in ihrem Geschäft,

As for us, YHWH [is] our God, and we have not forsaken Him, and priests are ministering to YHWH, sons of Aaron and the Levites, in the work,

11 und anzünden dem HERRN alle Morgen Brandopfer und alle Abend, dazu das gute Räuchwerk und bereitete Brote auf dem reinen Tisch; und der güldene Leuchter mit seinen Lampen, daß sie alle Abend angezündet werden. Denn wir behalten die Hut des HERRN, unsers Gottes; ihr aber habt ihn verlassen.

and are making incense to YHWH, burnt-offerings morning by morning, and evening by evening, and incense of spices, and the arrangement of bread [is] on the pure table, and the lampstand of gold, and its lamps, to burn evening by evening, for we are keeping the charge of our God YHWH, and you have forsaken Him.

12 Siehe, mit uns ist an der Spitze Gott und seine Priester und die Trommeten, zu trommeten, daß man wider euch trommete. Ihr Kinder Israel, streitet nicht wider den HERRN, eurer Väter Gott; denn es wird euch nicht gelingen.

And behold, with us—at [our] head—[is] God, and His priests and trumpets of shouting to shout against you; O sons of Israel, do not fight with YHWH, God of your fathers, for you do not prosper.”

13 Aber Jerobeam machte einen Hinterhalt umher, daß er von hinten an sie käme, daß sie vor Juda waren und der Hinterhalt hinter ihnen.

And Jeroboam has brought around the ambush to come in from behind them, and they are before Judah, and the ambush [is] behind them.

14 Da sich nun Juda umwandte, siehe, da war vorne und hinten Streit. Da schrieen sie zum HERRN, und die Priester trommeteten mit Trommeten.

And Judah turns, and behold, the battle [is] against them, before and behind, and they cry to YHWH, and the priests are blowing with trumpets,

15 Und jedermann in Juda tönete. Und da jedermann in Juda tönete, plagte Gott Jerobeam und das ganze Israel vor Abia und Juda.

and the men of Judah shout; and it comes to pass, at the shouting of the men of Judah, that God has struck Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

16 Und die Kinder Israel flohen vor Juda, und Gott gab sie in ihre Hände,

And the sons of Israel flee from the face of Judah, and God gives them into their hand,

17 daß Abia mit seinem Volk eine große Schlacht an ihnen tat, und fielen aus Israel Erschlagene fünfhunderttausend junger Mannschaft.

and Abijah and his people strike among them a great striking, and five hundred thousand chosen men of Israel fall wounded.

18 Also wurden die Kinder Israel gedemütiget zu der Zeit; aber die Kinder Judas wurden getrost, denn sie verließen sich auf den HERRN, ihrer Väter Gott.

And the sons of Israel are humbled at that time, and the sons of Judah are strong, for they have leaned on YHWH, God of their fathers.

19 Und Abia jagte Jerobeam nach und gewann ihm Städte an: Bethel mit ihren Töchtern, Jesana mit ihren Töchtern und Ephron mit ihren Töchtern,

And Abijah pursues after Jeroboam and captures cities from him: Beth-El and its small towns, and Jeshanah and its small towns, and Ephraim and its small towns.

20 daß Jerobeam fürder nicht zu Kräften kam, weil Abia lebte. Und der HERR plagte ihn, daß er starb.

And Jeroboam has not retained power anymore in the days of Abijah, and YHWH strikes him, and he dies.

21 Da nun Abia gestärket war, nahm er vierzehn Weiber und zeugete zweiundzwanzig Söhne und sechzehn Töchter.

And Abijah strengthens himself, and takes fourteen wives for himself, and begets twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters;

22 Was aber mehr von Abia zu sagen ist, und seine Wege und sein Tun, das ist geschrieben in der Historia des Propheten Iddo.

and the rest of the matters of Abijah, and his ways, and his words, are written in the commentary of the prophet Iddo.
