1 Samuel 21

1 David aber kam gen Nobe zum Priester Ahimelech. Und Ahimelech entsetzte sich, da er David entgegenging, und sprach zu ihm: Warum kommst du allein und ist kein Mann mit dir?

Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech the cohen. And Ahimelech was shaking in fear when he met David, and said to him, "Why are you alone, and no one with you?"

2 David sprach zu Ahimelech, dem Priester: Der König hat mir eine Sache befohlen und sprach zu mir: Laß niemand wissen, warum ich dich gesandt habe und was ich dir befohlen habe. Denn ich habe auch meine Knaben etwa hie oder daher beschieden.

And David said to the cohen, "The king has given me orders, and he instructed me, 'No one must know of the matter about which I send you, or about your orders; and I have arranged to meet the young men at a certain place.'

3 Hast du nun was unter deiner Hand, ein Brot oder fünf, die gib mir in meine Hand, oder was du findest.

Now, if there are five loaves of bread under your control, give them into my hand, or whatever there is."

4 Der Priester antwortete David und sprach: Ich habe kein gemein Brot unter meiner Hand, sondern heilig Brot; wenn sich nur die Knaben von Weibern enthalten hätten!

And the cohen answered David, and said, "There is no common bread in my control, but there is holy bread. If the young men have kept themselves from women, they may eat of it."

5 David antwortete dem Priester und sprach zu ihm: Es sind die Weiber drei Tage uns versperret gewesen, da ich auszog, und der Knaben Zeug war heilig; ist aber dieser Weg unheilig, so wird er heute geheiliget werden an dem Zeuge.

And David answered the cohen, and said to him, "Truly women have been kept from us as always when I set out. All the young men are holy, even when it is an ordinary mission. So how much more today will their vessels be holy?"

6 Da gab ihm der Priester des heiligen, weil kein ander Brot da war denn die Schaubrote, die man vor dem HERRN aufhub, daß man ander frisch Brot auflegen sollte des Tages, da er die weggenommen hatte.

So the cohen gave him what had been consecrated, for there was no bread there but the show bread, that had been removed before the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

7 Es war aber des Tages ein Mann drinnen versperret vor dem HERRN aus den Knechten Sauls mit Namen Doeg, ein Edomiter, der mächtigste unter den Hirten Sauls.

Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD; and his name was Doeg the Edomite, the best of the herdsmen who belonged to Saul.

8 Und David sprach zu Ahimelech: Ist nicht hie unter deiner Hand ein Spieß oder Schwert? Ich habe mein Schwert und Waffen nicht mit mir genommen; denn die Sache des Königs war eilend.

David said to Ahimelech, "Isn't there here under your control spear or sword? For I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste."

9 Der Priester sprach: Das Schwert des Philisters Goliath, den du schlugest im Eichgrunde, das ist hie, gewickelt in einen Mantel hinter dem Leibrock. Willst du dasselbige, so nimm's hin, denn es ist hie kein anderes denn das. David sprach: Es ist seinesgleichen nicht; gib mir's!

The cohen said, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, look, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind an ephod. If you will take that, take it; for there is no other except that here." David said, "There is none like that. Give it to me."

10 Und David machte sich auf und floh vor Saul; und kam zu Achis, dem Könige zu Gath.

David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

11 Aber die Knechte Achis sprachen zu ihm: Das ist der David, des Landes König, von dem sie sangen am Reigen und sprachen: Saul schlug tausend, David aber zehntausend.

The servants of Achish said to him, "Isn't this David the king of the land? Did they not sing one to another about him in dances, saying, 'Saul has slain his thousands, David his ten thousands?'"

12 Und David nahm die Rede zu Herzen und fürchtete sich sehr vor Achis, dem Könige zu Gath.

David laid up these words in his heart, and was very afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

13 Und verstellete seine Gebärde vor ihnen und kollerte unter ihren Händen und stieß sich an die Tür am Tor, und sein Geifer floß ihm in den Bart.

He changed his behavior before them, and pretended to be mad in their hands, and drummed on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle run down his beard.

14 Da sprach Achis zu seinen Knechten: Siehe, ihr sehet, daß der Mann unsinnig ist; warum habt ihr ihn zu mir gebracht?

Then Achish said to his servants, "Look, you see the man is mad. Why then have you brought him to me?

15 Habe ich der Unsinnigen zu wenig, daß ihr diesen herbrächtet, daß er neben mir rasete? Sollte der in mein Haus kommen?

Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?"
