1 Samuel 14

1 Es begab sich eines Tages, daß Jonathan, der Sohn Sauls, sprach zu seinem Knaben, der sein Waffenträger war: Komm, laß uns hinübergehen zu der Philister Lager, das da drüben ist. Und sagte es seinem Vater nicht an.

Now it came to pass one day that Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man that bore his armour, Come and let us go over to the Philistines' garrison which is on the other side. But he did not tell his father.

2 Saul aber blieb zu Gibea am Ende unter einem Granatenbaum, der in der Vorstadt war; und des Volks, das bei ihm war, war bei sechshundert Mann.

And Saul abode at the extreme end of Gibeah under the pomegranate-tree which [was] in Migron; and the people that were with him were about six hundred men.

3 Und Ahia, der Sohn Ahitobs, Ikabods Bruder, Pinehas Sohn, des Sohns Elis, war Priester des HERRN zu Silo und trug den Leibrock an. Das Volk wußte auch nicht, daß Jonathan war hingegangen.

(And Ahijah the son of Ahitub, Ichabod's brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, Jehovah's priest in Shiloh, wore the ephod.) And the people did not know that Jonathan was gone.

4 Es waren aber an dem Wege, da Jonathan suchte, hinüberzugehen zu der Philister Lager, zween spitze Felsen, einer diesseits, der andere jenseits; der eine hieß Bozez, der andere Senne.

Now between the passes by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistines' garrison there was a sharp rock on the one side and a sharp rock on the other side; and the name of the one [was] Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

5 Und einer sah von Mitternacht gegen Michmas und der andere von Mittag gegen Gaba.

The one crag [formed] a pillar on the north opposite to Michmash, and the other on the south opposite to Geba.

6 Und Jonathan sprach zu seinem Waffenträger: Komm, laß uns hinübergehen zu dem Lager dieser Unbeschnittenen, vielleicht wird der HERR etwas durch uns ausrichten; denn es ist dem HERRN nicht schwer, durch viel oder wenig helfen.

And Jonathan said to the young man that bore his armour, Come, and let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised: perhaps Jehovah will work for us; for there is no restraint to Jehovah to save by many or by few.

7 Da antwortete ihm sein Waffenträger: Tue alles, was in deinem Herzen ist; fahre hin, siehe, ich bin mit dir, wie dein Herz will.

And his armour-bearer said to him, Do all that is in thy heart; turn thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heart.

8 Jonathan sprach: Wohlan, wenn wir hinüberkommen zu den Leuten und ihnen ins Gesicht kommen,

Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over to the men, and we will shew ourselves to them.

9 werden sie dann sagen: Stehet stille, bis wir an euch gelangen, so wollen wir an unserm Ort stehen bleiben und nicht zu ihnen hinaufgehen.

If they say thus to us, Stand still until we come to you, then we will stay in our place, and will not go up to them.

10 Werden sie aber sagen: Kommt zu uns herauf, so wollen wir zu ihnen hinaufsteigen, so hat sie uns der HERR in unsere Hände gegeben. Und das soll uns zum Zeichen sein.

And if they say thus, Come up to us, then we will go up; for Jehovah has given them into our hand; and this shall be the sign to us.

11 Da sie nun der Philister Lager beide ins Gesicht kamen, sprachen die Philister: Siehe, die Ebräer sind aus den Löchern gegangen, darin sie sich verkrochen hatten.

And both of them shewed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines; and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves.

12 Und die Männer im Lager antworteten Jonathan und seinem Waffenträger und sprachen: Kommt herauf zu uns, so wollen wir's euch wohl lehren. Da sprach Jonathan zu seinem Waffenträger: Steige mir nach; der HERR hat sie gegeben in die Hände Israels.

And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armour-bearer and said, Come up to us, and we will shew you something. And Jonathan said to his armour-bearer, Come up after me; for Jehovah has delivered them into the hand of Israel.

13 Und Jonathan kletterte mit Händen und mit Füßen hinauf, und sein Waffenträger ihm nach. Da fielen sie vor Jonathan danieder, und sein Waffenträger würgete ihm immer nach,

And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armour-bearer after him; and they fell before Jonathan; and his armour-bearer slew after him.

14 also daß die erste Schlacht, die Jonathan und sein Waffenträger tat, war bei zwanzig Mann, beinahe eine halbe Hufe Ackers, die ein Joch treibet.

And that first slaughter which Jonathan and his armour-bearer wrought was about twenty men, as it were on the half-furrow of an acre of land.

15 Und es kam ein Schrecken ins Lager auf dem Felde und im ganzen Volk des Lagers, und die streifenden Rotten erschraken auch, also daß das Land erbebete; denn es war ein Schrecken von Gott.

And there was trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people; the garrison, and the ravagers, they also trembled, and the earth quaked; for it was a trembling [from] God.

16 Und die Wächter Sauls zu Gibea-Benjamin sahen, daß der Haufe zerrann und verlief sich und ward zerschmissen.

And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked, and behold, the multitude melted away, and they went on slaying one another.

17 Saul sprach zu dem Volk, das bei ihm war: Zählet und besehet, wer von uns sei weggegangen. Und da sie zähleten, siehe, da war Jonathan und sein Waffenträger nicht da.

Then said Saul to the people that were with him, Muster now, and see who is gone from us. And they mustered, and behold, Jonathan and his armour-bearer were not there.

18 Da sprach Saul zu Ahia: Bringe herzu die Lade Gottes (denn die Lade Gottes war zu der Zeit bei den Kindern Israel).

And Saul said to Ahijah, Bring hither the ark of God. For the ark of God was at that time with the children of Israel.

19 Und da Saul noch redete mit dem Priester, da ward das Getümmel und das Laufen in der Philister Lager größer. Und Saul sprach zum Priester: Zeuch deine Hand ab.

And it came to pass while Saul talked to the priest, that the noise which was in the camp of the Philistines went on and increased; and Saul said to the priest, Withdraw thy hand.

20 Und Saul rief und alles Volk, das mit ihm war, und kamen zum Streit; und siehe, da ging eines jeglichen Schwert wider den andern, und war ein sehr groß Getümmel.

And Saul and all the people that were with him were called together, and they came to the battle; and behold, every man's sword was against his fellow, a very great confusion.

21 Auch die Ebräer, die vorhin bei den Philistern gewesen waren und mit ihnen im Lager hinaufgezogen waren umher, taten sich zu Israel, die mit Saul und Jonathan waren.

And there were Hebrews with the Philistines before that time, who had gone up with them into the camp round about; and they also [turned] to be with the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.

22 Und alle Männer von Israel, die sich auf dem Gebirge Ephraim verkrochen hatten, da sie höreten, daß die Philister flohen, strichen hinter ihnen her im Streit.

And all the men of Israel who had hid themselves in mount Ephraim heard that the Philistines fled, and they also followed hard after them in the battle.

23 Also half der HERR zu der Zeit Israel. Und der Streit währete bis gen Beth-Aven.

And Jehovah saved Israel that day; and the battle passed over beyond Beth-Aven.

24 Und da die Männer Israels matt waren desselben Tages, beschwor Saul das Volk und sprach: Verflucht sei jedermann, wer etwas isset bis zu Abend, daß ich mich an meinen Feinden räche! Da aß das ganze Volk nichts.

But the men of Israel were distressed that day. Now Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth food until evening, and [until] I am avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted food.

25 Und das ganze Land kam in den Wald. Es war aber Honig im Felde.

And all they of the land came to a wood; and there was honey on the ground.

26 Und da das Volk hineinkam in den Wald, siehe, da floß der Honig. Aber niemand tat desselben mit der Hand zu seinem Munde; denn das Volk fürchtete sich vor dem Eide.

And the people had come into the wood, and behold, the honey flowed; but no man put his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath.

27 Jonathan aber hatte nicht gehöret, daß sein Vater das Volk beschworen hatte, und reckte seinen Stab aus, den er in seiner Hand hatte, und tunkte mit der Spitze in den Honigseim und wandte seine Hand zu seinem Munde; da wurden seine Augen wacker.

But Jonathan had not heard when his father adjured the people; and he put forth the end of his staff which was in his hand, and dipped it in the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth, and his eyes became bright.

28 Da antwortete einer des Volks und sprach: Dein Vater hat das Volk beschworen und gesagt: Verflucht sei jedermann, der heute etwas isset! Und das Volk war matt worden.

Then answered one of the people and said, Thy father strictly adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth food this day; and the people are faint.

29 Da sprach Jonathan: Mein Vater hat das Land geirret; sehet, wie wacker sind meine Augen worden, daß ich ein wenig dieses Honigs gekostet habe.

And Jonathan said, My father has troubled the land: see, I pray you, that mine eyes are bright, because I tasted a little of this honey.

30 Weil aber das Volk heute nicht hat müssen essen von der Beute seiner Feinde, die es funden hat, so hat auch nun die Schlacht nicht größer werden können wider die Philister.

How much more, if the people had eaten freely to-day of the spoil of their enemies which they found? for would there not now have been a much greater slaughter among the Philistines?

31 Sie schlugen aber die Philister des Tages von Michmas bis gen Ajalon. Und das Volk ward sehr matt.

And they smote the Philistines that day from Michmash to Ajalon; and the people were very faint.

32 Und das Volk richtete die Ausbeute zu und nahmen Schafe und Rinder und Kälber; und schlachteten's auf der Erde und aßen's so blutig.

And the people fell on the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slaughtered them on the ground; and the people ate [them] with the blood.

33 Da verkündigte man Saul: Siehe, das Volk versündiget sich an dem HERRN, daß es Blut isset. Er sprach: Ihr habt übel getan; wälzet her zu mir jetzt einen großen Stein.

And they told Saul, saying, Behold, the people sin against Jehovah, in that they eat with the blood. And he said, Ye have acted perversely: roll me now a great stone.

34 Und Saul sprach weiter: Zerstreuet euch unter das Volk und saget ihnen, daß ein jeglicher seinen Ochsen und seine Schafe zu mir bringe; und schlachtet es allhie, daß ihr's esset und euch nicht versündiget an dem HERRN mit dem Blut essen. Da brachte alles Volk ein jeglicher seinen Ochsen mit seiner Hand herzu des Nachts und schlachteten es daselbst.

And Saul said, Disperse yourselves among the people, and say to them, Bring near to me every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and slaughter them here, and eat; and sin not against Jehovah in eating with the blood. And all the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and slaughtered [them] there.

35 Und Saul bauete dem HERRN einen Altar. Das ist der erste Altar, den er dem HERRN bauete.

And Saul built an altar to Jehovah: this was the first altar he built to Jehovah.

36 Und Saul sprach: Laßt uns hinabziehen den Philistern nach bei der Nacht und sie berauben, bis daß licht Morgen wird, daß wir niemand von ihnen überlassen. Sie antworteten: Tue alles, was dir gefällt. Aber der Priester sprach: Laßt uns hieher zu Gott nahen!

And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and plunder them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever is good in thy sight. Then said the priest, Let us come near hither to God.

37 Und Saul fragte Gott: Soll ich hinabziehen, den Philistern nach? und willst du sie geben in Israels Hände? Aber er antwortete ihm zu der Zeit nicht.

And Saul inquired of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? wilt thou give them into the hand of Israel? But he did not answer him that day.

38 Da sprach Saul: Laßt herzutreten alle Haufen es Volks, und erfahret und sehet, an welchem die Sünde sei zu dieser Zeit;

And Saul said, Draw ye near hither, all the heads of the people; and know and see wherein this sin has been this day.

39 denn so wahr der HERR lebet, der Heiland Israels, und ob sie gleich an meinem Sohn Jonathan wäre, so soll er sterben. Und niemand antwortete ihm aus dem ganzen Volk.

For, [as] Jehovah liveth, who has saved Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall certainly die. And no one answered him among all the people.

40 Und er sprach zu dem ganzen Israel: Seid ihr auf jener Seite; ich und mein Sohn Jonathan wollen sein auf dieser Seite. Das Volk sprach zu Saul: Tue, was dir gefällt.

Then said he to all Israel, Be ye on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people said to Saul, Do what is good in thy sight.

41 Und Saul sprach zu dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels: Schaffe Recht! Da ward Jonathan und Saul getroffen; aber das Volk ging frei aus.

And Saul said to Jehovah the God of Israel, Give a perfect [testimony]! And Jonathan and Saul were taken, and the people escaped.

42 Saul sprach: Werfet über mich und meinen Sohn Jonathan. Da ward Jonathan getroffen.

And Saul said, Cast [lots] between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.

43 Und Saul sprach zu Jonathan: Sage mir, was hast du getan? Jonathan sagte es ihm und sprach: Ich habe ein wenig Honigs gekostet mit dem Stabe, den ich in meiner Hand hatte; und siehe, ich muß darum sterben.

And Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him and said, With the end of the staff which is in my hand I tasted a little honey, [and] behold, I must die!

44 Da sprach Saul: Gott tue mir dies und das, Jonathan, du mußt des Todes sterben.

And Saul said, God do so [to me] and more also; thou shalt certainly die, Jonathan.

45 Aber das Volk sprach zu Saul: Sollte Jonathan sterben, der ein solch groß Heil in Israel getan hat? Das sei ferne! So wahr der HERR lebet, es soll kein Haar von seinem Haupt auf die Erde fallen; denn Gott hat's heute durch ihn getan. Also erlösete das Volk Jonathan, daß er nicht sterben mußte.

And the people said to Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who has wrought this great salvation in Israel? Far be it! [as] Jehovah liveth, there shall not a hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has wrought with God this day. So the people delivered Jonathan, that he died not.

46 Da zog Saul herauf von den Philistern, und die Philister zogen an ihren Ort.

And Saul went up from following the Philistines; and the Philistines went to their own place.

47 Aber da Saul das Reich über Israel eingenommen hatte, stritt er wider alle seine Feinde umher: wider die Moabiter, wider die Kinder Ammon, wider die Edomiter, wider die Könige Zobas, wider die Philister; und wo er sich hinwandte, da übte er Strafe.

And Saul took the kingdom over Israel, and fought against all his enemies round about, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines; and whithersoever he turned himself, he discomfited [them].

48 Und machte ein Heer und schlug die Amalekiter und errettete Israel von der Hand aller, die sie zwackten.

And he did valiantly, and smote the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of their spoilers.

49 Saul aber hatte Söhne: Jonathan, Iswi, Malchisua. Und seine zwo Töchter hießen also: die erstgeborne Merob und die jüngste Michal.

And the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Jishvi, and Malchi-shua. And the names of his two daughters: the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal.

50 Und das Weib Sauls hieß Ahinoam, eine Tochter Ahimaaz. Und sein Feldhauptmann hieß Abner, ein Sohn Ners, Sauls Vetters.

And the name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz; and the name of the captain of his host was Abner, the son of Ner, Saul's uncle.

51 Kis aber war Sauls Vater; Ner aber, Abners Vater, war ein Sohn Abiels.

And Kish the father of Saul, and Ner the father of Abner were sons of Abiel.

52 Es war aber ein harter Streit wider die Philister, solange Saul lebte. Und wo Saul sah einen starken und rüstigen Mann, den nahm er zu sich.

And there was sore war against the Philistines all the days of Saul; and when Saul saw any mighty man, or any valiant man, he took him to himself.
