1 Samuel 11
1 Es zog aber herauf Nahas, der Ammoniter, und belagerte Jabes in Gilead. Und alle Männer zu Jabes sprachen zu Nahas: Mache einen Bund mit uns, so wollen wir dir dienen.
And it came to pass about a month after this that Naas, the Ammonite came up, and began to fight against Jabes Galaad. And all the men of Jabes said to Naas: Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.
2 Aber Nahas, der Ammoniter, antwortete ihnen: Darin will ich mit euch einen Bund machen, daß ich euch allen das rechte Auge aussteche und mache euch zuschanden unter dem ganzen Israel.
And Naas the Ammonite answered them: On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may pluck out all your right eyes, and make you a reproach in all Israel.
3 Da sprachen zu ihm die Ältesten zu Jabes: Gib uns sieben Tage, daß wir Boten senden in alle Grenzen Israels; ist dann niemand, der uns errette, so wollen wir zu dir hinausgehen.
And the ancients of Jabes said to him: Allow us seven days, that we may send messengers to all the coasts of Israel: and if there be no one to defend us, we will come out to thee.
4 Da kamen die Boten gen Gibea zu Saul und redeten solches vor den Ohren des Volks. Da hub alles Volk seine Stimme auf und weinete.
The messengers therefore came to Gabaa of Saul: and they spoke these words in the hearing of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.
5 Und siehe, da kam Saul vom Felde hinter den Rindern her und sprach: Was ist dem Volk, daß es weinet? Da erzählten sie ihm die Sache der Männer von Jabes.
And behold Saul came, following oxen out of the field, and he said: What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the words of the men of Jabes.
6 Da geriet der Geist Gottes über ihn, als er solche Worte hörete, und sein Zorn ergrimmete sehr.
And the spirit of the Lord came upon Saul, when he had heard these words, and his anger was exceedingly kindled.
7 Und nahm ein Paar Ochsen und zerstückte sie und sandte in alle Grenzen Israels durch die Boten und ließ sagen: Wer nicht auszeucht, Saul und Samuel nach, des Rindern soll man also tun. Da fiel die Furcht des HERRN auf das Volk, daß sie auszogen, gleich als ein einiger Mann.
And taking both the oxen, he cut them in pieces, and sent them into all the coasts of Israel by messengers, saying: Whosoever shall not come forth, and follow Saul and Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen. And the fear of the Lord fell upon the people, and they went out as one man.
8 Und machte die Ordnung zu Basek. Und der Kinder, Israel waren dreihundertmal tausend Mann, und der Kinder Juda dreißigtausend.
And he numbered them in Bezec: and there were of the children of Israel three hundred thousand: and of the men of Juda thirty thousand.
9 Und sie sagten den Boten, die kommen waren: Also sagt den Männern zu Jabes in Gilead: Morgen soll euch Hilfe geschehen, wenn die Sonne beginnet heiß zu scheinen. Da die Boten kamen und verkündigten das den Männern zu Jabes, wurden sie froh.
And they said to the messengers that came: Thus shall you say to the men of Jabes Galaad: Tomorrow, when the sun shall be hot, you shall have relief. The messengers therefore came, and told the men of Jabes: and they were glad.
10 Und die Männer Jabes sprachen: Morgen wollen wir zu euch hinausgehen, daß ihr uns tut alles, was euch gefällt.
And they said: In the morning we will come out to you: and you shall do what you please with us.
11 Und des andern Morgens stellete Saul das Volk in drei Haufen; und kamen ins Lager um die Morgenwache und schlugen die Ammoniter, bis der Tag heiß ward; welche aber überblieben, wurden also zerstreuet, daß ihrer nicht zween beieinander blieben.
And it came to pass, when the morrow was come that Saul put the people in three companies: and he came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch, and he slew the Ammonites until the day grew hot, and the rest were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.
12 Da sprach das Volk zu Samuel: Wer sind sie, die da sagten: Sollte Saul über uns herrschen? Gebet sie her, die Männer, daß wir sie töten!
And the people said to Samuel: Who is he that said: Shall Saul reign over us? Bring the men and we will kill them.
13 Saul aber sprach: Es soll auf diesen Tag niemand sterben; denn der HERR hat heute Heil gegeben in Israel.
And Saul said: No man shall be killed this day, because the Lord this day hath wrought salvation in Israel:
14 Samuel sprach zum Volk: Kommt, laßt uns gen Gilgal gehen und das Königreich daselbst erneuern!
And Samuel said to the people: Come and let us go to Galgal, and let us renew the kingdom there.
15 Da ging alles Volk gen Gilgal; und machten daselbst Saul zum Könige vor dem HERRN zu Gilgal und opferten Dankopfer vor dem HERRN. Und Saul samt allen Männern Israels freueten sich daselbst fast sehr.
And all the people went to Galgal, and there they made Saul king before the Lord in Galgal, and they sacrificed there victims of peace before the Lord. And there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced exceedingly.
