1 Und es kamen drei Jahre um, daß kein Krieg war zwischen den Syrern und Israel.
Then three years passed without war between Syria and Israel.
2 Im dritten Jahr aber zog Josaphat, der König Judas, hinab zum Könige Israels.
But in the third year, Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, descended to the king of Israel.
3 Und der König Israels sprach zu seinen Knechten: Wisset ihr nicht, daß Ramoth in Gilead unser ist; und wir sitzen stille und nehmen sie nicht von der Hand des Königs zu Syrien?
And the king of Israel said to his servants, “Are you ignorant that Ramoth Gilead is ours, and that we have neglected to take it from the hand of the king of Syria?”
4 Und sprach zu Josaphat: Willst du mit mir ziehen in den Streit gen Ramoth in Gilead? Josaphat sprach zum Könige Israels: Ich will sein wie du und mein Volk wie dein Volk und meine Rosse wie deine Rosse.
And so he said to Jehoshaphat, “Will you come to the battle with me at Ramoth Gilead?”
5 Und Josaphat sprach zum Könige Israels: Frage doch heute um das Wort des HERRN.
And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel: “As I am, so also are you. My people and your people are one. And my horsemen are your horsemen.” And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “I beg you to inquire today of the word of the Lord.”
6 Da sammelte der König Israels Propheten bei vierhundert Mann und sprach zu ihnen: Soll ich gen Ramoth in Gilead ziehen zu streiten, oder soll ich's lassen anstehen? Sie sprachen: Zeuch hinauf, der HERR wird's in die Hand des Königs geben.
Therefore, the king of Israel gathered together the prophets, about four hundred men, and he said to them, “Should I go to Ramoth Gilead to make war, or should I be at peace?” They responded, “Ascend, and the Lord will give it into the hand of the king.”
7 Josaphat aber sprach: Ist hie kein Prophet mehr des HERRN, daß wir von ihm fragen?
Then Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not here a particular prophet of the Lord, so that we may inquire by him?”
8 Der König Israels sprach zu Josaphat: Es ist noch ein Mann, Micha, der Sohn Jemlas, von dem man den HERRN fragen mag. Aber ich bin ihm gram; denn er weissaget mir kein Gutes, sondern eitel Böses. Josaphat sprach: Der König rede nicht also!
And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat: “One man remains, by whom we may be able to inquire of the Lord: Micaiah, the son of Imlah. But I hate him. For he does not prophecy good to me, but evil.” And Jehoshaphat said, “You should not speak in this way, O king.”
9 Da rief der König Israels einem Kämmerer und sprach: Bringe eilend her Micha, den Sohn Jemlas!
Therefore, the king of Israel called a certain eunuch, and he said to him, “Hurry to bring here Micaiah, the son of Imlah.”
10 Der König aber Israels und Josaphat, der König Judas, saßen ein jeglicher auf seinem Stuhl, angezogen mit Kleidern, auf dem Platz vor der Tür am Tor Samarias; und alle Propheten weissagten vor ihnen.
Now the king of Israel, and Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, were each sitting upon his own throne, clothed in the habit of royal vestments, in a courtyard beside the entrance of the gate of Samaria. And all the prophets were prophesying in their sight.
11 Und Zedekia, der Sohn Knaenas, hatte ihm eiserne Hörner gemacht und sprach: So spricht der HERR: Hiemit wirst du die Syrer stoßen, bis du sie aufräumest.
Also, Zedekiah, the son of Chenaanah, made for himself horns of iron, and he said, “Thus says the Lord: With these, you shall threaten Syria, until you destroy it.”
12 Und alle Propheten weissagten also und sprachen: Zeuch hinauf gen Ramoth in Gilead und fahre glückselig; der HERR wird's in die Hand des Königs geben.
And all the prophets were prophesying similarly, saying: “Ascend to Ramoth Gilead, and go forth to success. For the Lord will deliver it into the hands of the king.”
13 Und der Bote, der hingegangen war, Micha zu rufen, sprach zu ihm: Siehe, der Propheten Reden sind einträchtiglich gut für den König; so laß nun dein Wort auch sein wie das Wort derselben und rede Gutes!
Then truly, the messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah spoke to him, saying: “Behold, the words of the prophets, as if with one mouth, are predicting good to the king. Therefore, let your word be like theirs, and speak what is good.”
14 Micha sprach: So wahr der HERR lebet, ich will reden, was der HERR mir sagen wird.
But Micaiah said to him, “As the Lord lives, whatever the Lord will have said to me, this shall I speak.”
15 Und da er zum Könige kam, sprach der König zu ihm: Micha, sollen wir gen Ramoth in Gilead ziehen zu streiten, oder sollen wir's lassen anstehen? Er sprach zu ihm: Ja, zeuch hinauf und fahre glückselig; der HERR wird's in die Hand des Königs geben.
And so he went to the king. And the king said to him, “Micaiah, should we go to Ramoth Gilead to do battle, or should we cease?” And he responded to him, “Ascend, and go forth to success, and the Lord will deliver it into the hands of the king.”
16 Der König sprach abermal zu ihm: Ich beschwöre dich, daß du mir nicht anders sagest denn die Wahrheit im Namen des HERRN.
But the king said to him, “I require you under oath, again and again, that you not say to me anything except what is true, in the name of the Lord.”
17 Er sprach: Ich sah ganz Israel zerstreuet auf den Bergen wie die Schafe, die keinen Hirten haben. Und der HERR sprach: Haben diese keinen HERRN? Ein jeglicher kehre wieder heim mit Frieden!
And he said: “I saw all of Israel scattered among the hills, like sheep that have no shepherd. And the Lord said: ‘These have no master. Let each of them return to his own house in peace.’”
18 Da sprach der König Israels zu Josaphat: Habe ich dir nicht gesagt, daß er mir nichts Gutes weissaget, sondern eitel Böses?
Therefore, the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat: “Did I not tell you that he prophesies nothing good to me, but always evil?”
19 Er sprach: Darum höre nun das Wort des HERRN. Ich sah den HERRN sitzen auf seinem Stuhl und alles himmlische Heer neben ihm stehen zu seiner Rechten und Linken.
Yet truly, continuing, he said: “Because of his, listen to the word of the Lord. I saw the Lord sitting upon his throne. And the entire army of heaven was standing beside him, to the right and to the left.
20 Und der HERR sprach: Wer will Ahab überreden, daß er hinaufziehe und falle zu Ramoth in Gilead? Und einer sagte dies, der andere das.
And the Lord said, ‘Who will mislead Ahab, the king of Israel, so that he may ascend and fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ And one spoke words in this manner, and another spoke otherwise.
21 Da ging ein Geist heraus und trat vor den HERRN und sprach: Ich will ihn überreden. Der HERR sprach zu ihm: Womit?
But then a spirit went out and stood before the Lord. And he said, ‘I will mislead him.’ And the Lord said to him, ‘By what means?’
22 Er sprach: Ich will ausgehen und will ein falscher Geist sein in aller seiner Propheten Munde. Er sprach: Du sollst ihn überreden und sollst es ausrichten; gehe aus und tue also!
And he said, ‘I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And the Lord said: ‘You will deceive him, and you will prevail. Go forth, and do so.’
23 Nun siehe, der HERR hat einen falschen Geist gegeben in aller dieser deiner Propheten Mund; und der HERR hat Böses über dich geredet.
So now, behold: the Lord has given a lying spirit into the mouth of all your prophets who are here. And the Lord has spoken evil against you.”
24 Da trat herzu Zedekia, der Sohn Knaenas, und schlug Micha auf den Backen und sprach: Wie? Ist der Geist des HERRN von mir gewichen, daß er mit dir redet?
Then Zedekiah, the son of Chenaanah, drew near and struck Micaiah on the jaw, and he said, “So then, has the Spirit of the Lord left me, and spoken to you?”
25 Micha sprach: Siehe, du wirst's sehen an dem Tage, wenn du von einer Kammer in die andere gehen wirst, daß du dich verkriechest.
And Micaiah said, “You shall see in the day when you will enter into a room within a room, so that you may conceal yourself.”
26 Der König Israels sprach: Nimm Micha und laß ihn bleiben bei Amon, dem Bürgermeister, und bei Joas, dem Sohn des Königs,
And the king of Israel said: “Take Micaiah, and let him dwell with Amon, the ruler of the city, and with Joash, the son of Amalech.
27 und sprich: So spricht der König: Diesen setzet ein in den Kerker und speiset ihn mit Brot und Wasser der Trübsal, bis ich mit Frieden wiederkomme.
And tell them: ‘Thus says the king: Put this man in prison, and sustain him with the bread of affliction, and with the water of distress, until I return in peace.’”
28 Micha sprach: Kommst du mit Frieden wieder, so hat der HERR nicht durch mich geredet. Und sprach: Höret zu, alles Volk!
And Micaiah said, “If you will have returned in peace, the Lord has not spoken through me.” And he said, “May all the people hear it.”
29 Also zog der König Israels und Josaphat, der König Judas, hinauf gen Ramoth in Gilead.
And so, the king of Israel, and Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, ascended to Ramoth Gilead.
30 Und der König Israels sprach zu Josaphat: Verstelle dich und komm in den Streit mit deinen Kleidern angetan. Der König Israels aber verstellete sich auch und zog in den Streit.
Then the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat: “Take up your armor, and enter the battle. And be clothed in your own garments.” But the king of Israel changed his clothing, and he entered the war.
31 Aber der König zu Syrien gebot den Obersten über seine Wagen, der waren zweiunddreißig, und sprach: Ihr sollt nicht streiten wider Kleine noch Große, sondern wider den König Israels allein.
Now the king of Syria had instructed the thirty-two commanders of the chariots, saying, “You shall not fight against anyone, small or great, except against the king of Israel alone.”
32 Und da die Obersten der Wagen Josaphat sahen, meineten sie, er wäre der König Israels, und fielen auf ihn mit Streiten; aber Josaphat schrie.
Therefore, when the commanders of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they suspected that he was the king of Israel. And making a violent assault, they fought against him. And Jehoshaphat cried out.
33 Da aber die Obersten der Wagen sahen, daß er nicht der König Israels war, wandten sie sich hinten von ihm.
And the commanders of the chariots understood that he was not the king of Israel, and so they turned away from him.
34 Ein Mann aber spannete den Bogen ohngefähr und schoß den König Israels zwischen den Panzer und Hengel. Und er sprach zu seinem Fuhrmann: Wende deine Hand und führe mich aus dem Heer, denn ich bin wund.
But a certain man bent his bow, aiming the arrow without certitude, and by chance he struck the king of Israel, between the lungs and the stomach. Then he said to the driver of his chariot, “Turn your hand, and carry me away from the army, for I have been grievously wounded.”
35 Und der Streit nahm überhand desselben Tages; und der König stund auf dem Wagen gegen die Syrer und starb des Abends. Und das Blut floß von den Wunden mitten in den Wagen.
Then the battle was undertaken throughout that day. And the king of Israel was standing on his chariot opposite the Syrians, and he died in the evening. For the blood was flowing from the wound into the joints of the chariot.
36 Und man ließ ausrufen im Heer, da die Sonne unterging, und sagen: Ein jeglicher gehe in seine Stadt und in sein Land!
And a herald proclaimed throughout the entire army, before the setting of the sun, saying: “Let each one return to his own city, and to his own land.”
37 Also starb der König und ward gen Samaria gebracht. Und sie begruben ihn zu Samaria.
Then the king died, and he was carried into Samaria. And they buried the king in Samaria.
38 Und da sie den Wagen wuschen bei dem Teiche Samarias, leckten die Hunde sein Blut (es wuschen ihn aber die Huren) nach dem Wort des HERRN, das er geredet hatte.
And they washed his chariot in the pool of Samaria. And the dogs licked up his blood. And they washed the reins, in accord with the word of the Lord which he had spoken.
39 Was mehr von Ahab zu sagen ist, und alles, was er getan hat, und das elfenbeinerne Haus, das er bauete, und alle Städte, die er gebauet hat, siehe, das ist geschrieben in der Chronik der Könige Israels.
But the rest of the words of Ahab, and all that he did, and the house of ivory that he built, and all the cities that he constructed, were these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Israel?
40 Also entschlief Ahab mit seinen Vätern; und sein Sohn Ahasja ward König an seiner Statt.
And so, Ahab slept with his fathers. And Ahaziah, his son, reigned in his place.
41 Und Josaphat, der Sohn Assas, ward König über Juda im vierten Jahr Ahabs, des Königs Israels.
Yet truly, Jehoshaphat, the son of Asa, had begun to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab, the king of Israel.
42 Und war fünfunddreißig Jahre alt, da er König ward, und regierte fünfundzwanzig Jahre zu Jerusalem. Seine Mutter hieß Asuba, eine Tochter Silhis.
He was thirty-five years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for twenty-five years in Jerusalem. The name of his mother was Azubah, the daughter of Shilhi.
43 Und wandelte in allem Wege seines Vaters Assa und wich nicht davon; und er tat, das dem HERRN wohlgefiel. Doch tat er die Höhen nicht weg, und das Volk opferte und räucherte noch auf den Höhen.
And he walked in the entire way of Asa, his father, and he did not decline from it. And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord. Yet truly, he did not take away the high places. For still the people were sacrificing and burning incense in the high places.
44 Und hatte Frieden mit dem Könige Israels.
And Jehoshaphat had peace with the king of Israel.
45 Was aber mehr von Josaphat zu sagen ist, und die Macht, was er getan, und wie er gestritten hat, siehe, das ist geschrieben in der Chronik der Könige Judas.
But the rest of the words of Jehoshaphat, and his works that he did, and the battles, were these not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Judah?
46 Auch tat er aus dem Lande, was noch übriger Hurer waren, die zu der Zeit seines Vaters Assa waren überblieben.
Then, too, the remnant of the effeminate, who had remained in the days of Asa, his father, he took away from the land.
47 Und es war kein König in Edom.
At that time, there was no king appointed in Idumea.
48 Und Josaphat hatte Schiffe lassen machen aufs Meer, die in Ophir gehen sollten, Gold zu holen. Aber sie gingen nicht; denn sie wurden zerbrochen zu Ezeon-Geber.
Yet truly, king Jehoshaphat had made a navy on the sea, which would sail to Ophir for gold. But they were unable to go, because the ships were broken down at Eziongeber.
49 Dazumal sprach Ahasja, der Sohn Ahabs, zu Josaphat: Laß meine Knechte mit deinen Knechten in Schiffen fahren. Josaphat aber wollte nicht.
Then Ahaziah, the son of Ahab, said to Jehoshaphat, “Let my servants go with your servants on the ships.” But Jehoshaphat was not willing.
50 Und Josaphat entschlief mit seinen Vätern und ward begraben mit seinen Vätern in der Stadt Davids, seines Vaters; und Joram, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt.
And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and he was buried with them in the city of David, his father. And Jehoram, his son, reigned in his place.
51 Ahasja, der Sohn Ahabs, ward König über Israel zu Samaria im siebenzehnten Jahr Josaphats, des Königs Judas, und regierte über Israel zwei Jahre.
Then Ahaziah, the son of Ahab, began to reign over Israel, in Samaria, in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah. And he reigned over Israel for two years.
52 Und tat, das dem HERRN übel gefiel, und wandelte in dem Wege seines Vaters und seiner Mutter und in dem Wege Jerobeams, des Sohns Nebats, der Israel sündigen machte.
And he did evil in the sight of the Lord. And he walked in the way of his father and his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin.
Also, he served Baal, and he adored him, and he provoked the Lord, the God of Israel, in accord with all that his father had done.
