1 Chronik 21
1 Und der Satan stund wider Israel und gab David ein, daß er Israel zählen ließ.
And Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.
2 Und David sprach zu Joab und zu des Volks Obersten: Gehet hin, zählet Israel, von Berseba an bis gen Dan; und bringet's zu mir, daß ich wisse, wieviel ihrer ist.
And David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan, and bring me word that I may know the sum of them.
3 Joab sprach: Der HERR tue zu seinem Volk, wie sie jetzt sind, hundertmal soviel; aber, mein HERR König, sind sie nicht alle meines HERRN Knechte? Warum fraget denn mein HERR danach? Warum soll eine Schuld auf Israel kommen?
And Joab said, Jehovah make his people a hundred times as many as they are. But, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? Why does my lord require this thing? Why will he be a cause of guilt to Israel?
4 Aber des Königs Wort ging fort wider Joab. Und Joab zog aus und wandelte durch das ganze Israel und kam gen Jerusalem.
Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab. Therefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
5 Und gab die Zahl des gezählten Volks David. Und es war des ganzen Israel elfhundertmal tausend Mann, die das Schwert auszogen, und Juda vierhundertmal und siebenzigtausend Mann, die das Schwert auszogen.
And Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people to David. And all those of Israel were a million and a hundred thousand men who drew a sword. And Judah was four hundred seventy thousand men who drew a sword.
6 Levi aber und Benjamin zählete er nicht unter diese; denn es war dem Joab des Königs Wort ein Greuel.
But he did not count Levi and Benjamin among them, for the king's word was abominable to Joab.
7 Aber solches gefiel Gott übel; denn er schlug Israel.
And God was displeased with this thing, therefore he smote Israel.
8 Und David sprach zu Gott: Ich habe schwerlich gesündiget, daß ich das getan habe; nun aber nimm weg die Missetat deines Knechts, denn ich habe fast töricht getan.
And David said to God, I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing. But now, put away, I beseech thee, the iniquity of thy servant, for I have done very foolishly.
9 Und der HERR redete mit Gad, dem Schauer Davids, und sprach:
And Jehovah spoke to Gad, David's seer, saying,
10 Gehe hin und rede mit David und sprich: So spricht der HERR: Dreierlei lege ich dir vor; erwähle dir der eins, das ich dir tue.
Go and speak to David, saying, Thus says Jehovah, I offer thee three things. Choose thee one of them, that I may do it to thee.
11 Und da Gad zu David kam, sprach er zu ihm: So spricht der HERR: Erwähle dir
So Gad came to David, and said to him, Thus says Jehovah, Take which thou will:
12 entweder drei Jahre Teurung, oder drei Monden Flucht vor deinen Widersachern und vor dem Schwert deiner Feinde, daß dich's ergreife, oder drei Tage das Schwert des HERRN und Pestilenz im Lande, daß der Engel des HERRN verderbe in allen Grenzen Israels. So siehe nun zu, was ich antworten soll dem, der mich gesandt hat.
either three years of famine, or three months to be consumed before thy foes while the sword of thine enemies overtakes thee, or else three days the sword of Jehovah, even pestilence in the land, and the agent of Jehovah destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.
13 David sprach zu Gad: Mir ist fast angst; doch ich will in die Hand des HERRN fallen, denn seine Barmherzigkeit ist sehr groß, und will nicht in Menschenhände fallen.
And David said to Gad, I am in a great strait. Let me fall, I pray, into the hand of Jehovah, for his mercies are very great, and let me not fall into the hand of man.
14 Da ließ der HERR Pestilenz in Israel kommen, daß siebenzigtausend Mann fielen aus Israel.
So Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel, and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
15 Und Gott sandte den Engel gen Jerusalem, sie zu verderben. Und im Verderben sah der HERR drein, und reuete ihn das Übel und sprach zum Engel, dem Verderber: Es ist genug, laß deine Hand ab! Der Engel aber des HERRN stund bei der Tenne Arnans, des Jebusiters.
And God sent an agent to Jerusalem to destroy it. And as he was about to destroy, Jehovah beheld, and he relented of the evil, and said to the destroying agent, It is enough. Now halt thy hand. And the agent of Jehovah was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
16 Und David hub seine Augen auf und sah den Engel des HERRN stehen zwischen Himmel und Erde, und ein bloß Schwert in seiner Hand ausgereckt über Jerusalem. Da fiel David und die Ältesten, mit Säcken bedeckt, auf ihr Antlitz.
And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the agent of Jehovah standing between earth and heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
17 Und David sprach zu Gott: Bin ich's nicht, der das Volk zählen hieß? Ich bin, der gesündiget und das Übel getan hat; diese Schafe aber, was haben sie getan? HERR, mein Gott, laß deine Hand wider mich und meines Vaters Haus und nicht wider dein Volk sein zu plagen!
And David said to God, Is it not I who commanded the people to be numbered? Even I it is who have sinned and done very badly. But these sheep, what have they done? Let thy hand, I pray thee, O Jehovah my God, be against me, and against my father's house, but not against thy people, that they should be plagued.
18 Und der Engel sprach zu Gad, daß er David sollte sagen, daß David hinaufgehen und dem HERRN einen Altar aufrichten sollte in der Tenne Arnans, des Jebusiters.
Then the agent of Jehovah commanded Gad to say to David that David should go up, and rear an altar to Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
19 Also ging David hinauf nach dem Worte Gads, das er geredet hatte in des HERRN Namen.
And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spoke in the name of Jehovah.
20 Arnan aber, da er sich wandte und sah den Engel, und seine vier Söhne mit ihm, versteckten sie sich; denn Arnan drosch Weizen.
And Ornan turned back, and saw the agent, and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
21 Als nun David zu Arnan ging, sah Arnan und ward Davids gewahr; und ging heraus aus der Tenne und betete David an mit seinem Antlitz zur Erde.
And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing-floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
22 Und David sprach zu Arnan: Gib mir Raum in der Tenne, daß ich einen Altar dem HERRN drauf baue; um voll Geld sollst du mir ihn geben, auf daß die Plage vom Volk aufhöre.
Then David said to Ornan, Give me the place of this threshing-floor, that I may build thereon an altar to Jehovah. For the full price thou shall give it me, that the plague may be stopped from the people.
23 Arnan aber sprach zu David: Nimm dir und mache, mein HERR König, wie dir's gefällt; siehe, ich gebe das Rind zum Brandopfer und das Geschirr zu Holz und Weizen zum Speisopfer: alles gebe ich.
And Ornan said to David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes. Lo, I give thee the oxen for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal offering. I give it all.
24 Aber der König David sprach zu Arnan: Nicht also, sondern um voll Geld will ich's kaufen; denn ich will nicht, das dein ist, nehmen vor dem HERRN und will's nicht umsonst haben zum Brandopfer.
And king David said to Ornan, No, but I will truly buy it for the full price. For I will not take that which is thine for Jehovah, nor offer a burnt offering without cost.
25 Also gab David Arnan um den Raum Gold am Gewicht sechshundert Sekel.
So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.
26 Und David bauete daselbst dem HERRN einen Altar und opferte Brandopfer und Dankopfer. Und da er den HERRN anrief, erhörete er ihn durchs Feuer vom Himmel auf dem Altar des Brandopfers.
And David built there an altar to Jehovah, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon Jehovah. And he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.
27 Und der HERR sprach zum Engel, daß er sein Schwert in seine Scheide kehrete.
And Jehovah commanded the agent, and he put up his sword again into the sheath of it.
28 Zur selbigen Zeit, da David sah, daß ihn der HERR erhöret hatte auf dem Platz Arnans, des Jebusiters, pflegte er daselbst zu opfern.
At that time, when David saw that Jehovah had answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
29 Denn die Wohnung des HERRN, die Mose in der Wüste gemacht hatte, und der Brandopferaltar war zu der Zeit in der Höhe zu Gibeon.
For the tabernacle of Jehovah, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon.
30 David aber konnte nicht hingehen vor denselben, Gott zu suchen, so war er erschrocken vor dem Schwert des Engels des HERRN.
But David could not go before it to inquire of God, for he was afraid because of the sword of the agent of Jehovah.
