1 Das Wort Jahwes, welches an Zephanja, den Sohn Chusis, des Sohnes Gedaljas, des Sohnes Amarjas, des Sohnes Hiskias, zur Zeit Josias, des Sohnes Amons, des Königs von Juda erging.

2 Zusammenraffen, fortschaffen will ich alles vom Erdboden hinweg! - ist der Spruch Jahwes.

to gather to cease all from upon face: surface [the] land: planet utterance LORD

3 Fortschaffen will ich Menschen und Vieh, fortschaffen die Vögel unter dem Himmel und die Fische im Meer, die Ärgernisse samt den Gottlosen, und ich will die Menschen vom Erdboden vertilgen! - ist der Spruch Jahwes.

to cease man and animal to cease bird [the] heaven and fish [the] sea and [the] ruins with [the] wicked and to cut: eliminate [obj] [the] man from upon face: surface [the] land: planet utterance LORD

4 Da werde ich meine Hand wider Juda und wider alle Bewohner Jerusalems ausrecken und von dieser Stätte den Namen Baals, den Namen der Götzenpriester zugleich mit den Priestern hinwegtilgen,

5 Samt denen, die sich auf den Dächern vor dem Heere des Himmels niederwerfen, und denen, die sich niederwerfen vor Jahwe und zugleich beim Milkom schwören,

6 samt denen, die sich von Jahwe abgekehrt haben und die Jahwe nicht suchen, noch nach ihm fragen!

7 Still vor dem Herrn Jahwe! Denn nahe ist der Tag Jahwes; ja zugerüstet hat Jahwe ein Opfer, er hat schon die von ihm Geladenen geweiht.

8 Am Tage des Opfers Jahwes aber, da werde ich die Oberen heimsuchen samt den königlichen Prinzen und allen denen, die sich in ausländische Gewänder kleiden.

9 Jenes Tags suche ich alle die heim, die über die Schwelle hüpfen, die das Haus ihres Herrn mit dem Ertrag aus Gewaltthat und Trug anfüllen.

10 An jenem Tage - ist der Spruch Jahwes - wird Wehgeschrei vom Fischthor her erschallen und Wehgeheul vom zweiten Stadtteil her und gewaltiges Zetergeschrei von den Hügeln her.

11 Heulet, die ihr im “Mörser” wohnt, denn vernichtet ist die gesamte Kaufmannschaft, vertilgt sind alle, die Geld wägen.

12 Zur selbigen Zeit aber werde ich Jerusalem mit Leuchten durchforschen und die Leute heimsuchen, die da steif geworden sind auf ihren Hefen, die in ihrem Sinne sprechen: “Jahwe vermag weder Glück zu geben noch zu schaden!”

13 Da werden dann ihre Güter der Plünderung und ihre Häuser der Verödung anheimfallen; und bauen sie Häuser, so sollen sie nicht darin wohnen, und pflanzen sie Weingärten, so sollen sie doch keinen Wein davon trinken!

14 Nahe ist der große Tag Jahwes; er ist nahe und kommt gar eilend heran. Horch! der Tag Jahwes! Bitterlich schreit da der Held.

15 Ein Tag des Grimms ist jener Tag, ein Tag der Angst und Drangsal, ein Tag der Wüste und Verwüstung, ein Tag der Finsternis und Dunkelheit, ein Tag des Gewölks und Wolkendunkels,

16 ein Tag der Trompete und des Lärmblasens - wider die befestigten Städte und wieder die hohen Zinnen!

17 Da werde ich die Menschen ängstigen, daß sie wie Blinde umhergehen, weil sie wider Jahwe gesündigt haben, und ihr Blut soll wie Staub hingeschüttet werden und ihr Gedärme dem Kote gleich.

18 Weder ihr Silber noch ihr Gold wird sie am Tage des Grimms Jahwes zu retten vermögen; vielmehr soll vom Feuer seines Eifers die ganze Erde verzehrt werden. Denn den Garaus, ja jähen Untergang bereitet er den Bewohnern der Erde insgesamt.
