Psalm 81

1 Dem Musikmeister, nach der gattitischen. Von Asaph. Jauchzet Gott, der unsere Stärke ist, jubelt dem Gotte Jakobs zu!

To him that excelleth upon Gittith. A Psalme committed to Asaph. Sing ioyfully vnto God our strength: sing loude vnto the God of Iaakob.

2 Stimmt Gesang an und laßt die Handpauke ertönen, die liebliche Zither samt der Harfe.

Take the song and bring forth the timbrel, the pleasant harpe with the viole.

3 Stoßt am Neumond in die Posaune, am Vollmond auf den Tag unseres Festes.

Blowe the trumpet in the newe moone, euen in the time appointed, at our feast day.

4 Denn das ist eine Satzung für Israel, ein Recht des Gottes Jakobs.

For this is a statute for Israel, and a Law of the God of Iaakob.

5 Er hat es als ein Zeugnis in Joseph festgesetzt, als er gegen Ägypten auszog; eine Sprache, die ich zuvor nicht kannte, vernehme ich:

Hee set this in Ioseph for a testimonie, when hee came out of the land of Egypt, where I heard a language, that I vnderstoode not.

6 “Ich habe seinen Nacken von der Last befreit, seine Hände sind des Lastkorbes ledig.

I haue withdrawen his shoulder from the burden, and his handes haue left the pots.

7 “In der Not riefst du mich an und ich rettete dich; ich erhörte dich im Donnergewölk, prüfte dich am Haderwasser. (Sela)

Thou calledst in affliction and I deliuered thee, and answered thee in the secret of the thunder: I prooued thee at the waters of Meribah. (Selah)

8 “Höre, mein Volk, damit ich dich vermahne, Israel, möchtest du auf mich hören!

Heare, O my people, and I wil protest vnto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken vnto me,

9 “Es soll unter dir kein anderer Gott sein, einen fremden Gott darfst du nicht anbeten.

Let there bee no strange god in thee, neither worship thou any strange god.

10 “Ich, Jahwe, bin dein Gott, der dich aus Ägypten hergeführt hat: thue deinen Mund weit auf, damit ich ihn fülle!

For I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide and I will fill it.

11 “Aber mein Volk hörte nicht auf meine Stimme, und Israel hat mir nicht willfahrt.

But my people would not heare my voyce, and Israel would none of me.

12 “Da überließ ich sie der Verstocktheit ihres Herzens; sie wandelten nach ihren eigenen Anschlägen.

So I gaue them vp vnto the hardnesse of their heart, and they haue walked in their owne cousels.

13 “O daß doch mein Volk auf mich hören, Israel auf meinen Wegen wandeln wollte!

Oh that my people had hearkened vnto me, and Israel had walked in my wayes.

14 “Wie leicht wollte ich ihre Feinde demütigen und meine Hand gegen ihre Dränger wenden.

I would soone haue humbled their enemies, and turned mine hand against their aduersaries.

15 “Die Jahwe hassen, müßten ihm schmeicheln, und ihre Zeit sollte ewig währen.

The haters of the Lord should haue bene subiect vnto him, and their time should haue endured for euer.

16 “Mit dem besten Weizen wollte ich ihn speisen und dich mit Honig aus dem Felsen sättigen.”

And God would haue fedde them with the fatte of wheat, and with honie out of the rocke would I haue sufficed thee.
