Psalm 80
1 Dem Musikmeister, nach “Lilien”. Ein Zeugnis Asaphs. Ein Psalm. Hirte Israels, vernimm! Der du Joseph leitest, wie Schafe, der du über den Keruben thronst, glänze auf!
For the end, for alternate [strains], a testimony for Asaph, a Psalm concerning the Assyrian. Attend, O Shepherd of Israel, who guide Joseph like a flock; you who sit upon the cherubs, manifest yourself;
2 Vor Ephraim und Benjamin und Manasse her biete deine Macht auf und komm uns zu Hilfe!
before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasse, stir up your power, and come to deliver us.
3 Gott, stelle uns wieder her und laß dein Angesicht leuchten, daß uns geholfen werde!
Turn us, O God, and cause your face to shine; and we shall be delivered.
4 Jahwe, Gott der Heerscharen, wie lange zürnst du bei dem Gebete deines Volks?
O Lord God of hosts, how long are you angry with the prayer of your servant?
5 Du speistest sie mit Thränenbrot und tränktest sie in reichem Maße mit Thränen.
You will feed us with bread of tears; and will cause us to drink tears by measure.
6 Du machtest uns zum Zankapfel für unsere Nachbarn, und unsere Feinde treiben ihren Spott.
You has made us a strife to our neighbors; and our enemies have mocked at us.
7 Gott der Heerscharen, stelle uns wieder her und laß dein Angesicht leuchten, daß uns geholfen werde!
Turn us, O Lord God of hosts, and cause your face to shine; and we shall be saved. (Pause)
8 Einen Weinstock hobst du aus Ägypten aus, vertriebst Heiden und pflanztest ihn dafür ein.
You have transplanted a vine out of Egypt: you have cast out the heathen, and planted it.
9 Du machtest Raum vor ihm, und er wurzelte ein und füllte das Land.
You made a way before it, and did cause its roots to strike, and the land was filled [with it].
10 Die Berge wurden von seinem Schatten bedeckt, und die Cedern Gottes von seinen Zweigen.
Its shadow covered the mountains, and its shoots [equalled] the goodly cedars.
11 Er entsandte seine Ranken bis ans Meer und seine Schößlinge bis zum Euphratstrom.
It sent forth its branches to the sea, and its shoots to the river.
12 Warum hast du seine Mauern eingerissen, daß ihn alle, die des Wegs vorüberkommen, zerpflücken?
Therefore have you broken down its hedge, while all that pass by the way pluck it?
13 Der Eber aus dem Walde frißt ihn ab, und was sich auf dem Felde regt, weidet ihn ab.
The boar out of the wood has laid it waste, and the wild beast has devoured it.
14 Gott der Heerscharen, kehre doch wieder! Blicke vom Himmel herab und sieh darein und nimm dich dieses Weinstocks an
O God of hosts, turn, we pray you: look on [us] from heaven, and behold and visit this vine;
15 und des Setzlings, den deine Rechte gepflanzt, und des Schößlings, den du dir kräftig aufgezogen hast!
and restore that which your right hand has planted: and look on the son of man whom you did strengthen for yourself.
16 Er ist mit Feuer verbrannt, ist abgeschnitten; vor dem Drohen deines Angesichts vergehen sie!
[It is] burnt with fire and dug up: they shall perish at the rebuke of your presence.
17 Deine Hand sei über dem Manne deiner Rechten, über dem Menschensohne, den du dir kräftig aufgezogen hast.
Let your hand be upon the man of your right hand, and upon the son of man whom you did strengthen for yourself.
18 So wollen wir nicht von dir weichen! Erhalte uns am Leben, so wollen wir deinen Namen anrufen!
So will we not depart from you: you shall quicken us, and we will call upon your name.
19 Jahwe, Gott der Heerscharen, stelle uns wieder her! Laß dein Angesicht leuchten, daß uns geholfen werde!
Turn us, O Lord God of hosts, and make your face to shine; and we shall be saved.
