Psalm 8

1 Dem Musikmeister, nach der gattitischen. Ein Psalm Davids. Jahwe, unser Herrscher, wie herrlich ist dein Name auf der ganzen Erde, der du deine Pracht auf den Himmel gelegt hast.

To him that excelleth on Gittith. A Psalme of Dauid. O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy Name in all the worlde! which hast set thy glory aboue the heauens.

2 Durch den Mund von Kindern und Säuglingen hast du ein Bollwerk gegründet um deiner Widersacher willen, damit du Feinde und Rachgierige zum Schweigen bringest.

Out of the mouth of babes and suckelings hast thou ordeined strength, because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemie and the auenger.

3 Wenn ich deinen Himmel anschaue, das Werk deiner Finger, den Mond und die Sterne, die du bereitet hast, -

When I beholde thine heauens, euen the workes of thy fingers, the moone and the starres which thou hast ordeined,

4 was ist der Mensch, daß du seiner gedenkst, und das Menschenkind, daß du nach ihm schaust?

What is man, say I, that thou art mindefull of him? and the sonne of man, that thou visitest him?

5 Denn du ließest ihn nur wenig hinter Gott zurückstehn und mit Ehre und Hoheit umgabst du ihn.

For thou hast made him a little lower then God, and crowned him with glory and worship.

6 Du machtest in zum Herrn über die Werke deiner Hände; alles hast du unter seine Füße gelegt:

Thou hast made him to haue dominion in the workes of thine hands: thou hast put all things vnder his feete:

7 Schafe und Rinder insgesamt, dazu auch die Tiere des Feldes,

All sheepe and oxen: yea, and the beastes of the fielde:

8 die Vögel unter dem Himmel und die Fische im Meere - was irgend die Meerespfade durchzieht.

The foules of the ayre, and the fish of the sea, and that which passeth through the paths of the seas.

9 Jahwe, unser Herrscher, wie herrlich ist dein Name auf der ganzen Erde!

O Lord our Lord, howe excellent is thy Name in all the world!
