Psalm 48

1 Ein Lied. Ein Psalm. Von den Korachiten. Groß ist Jahwe und hoch zu preisen in der Stadt unseres Gottes, auf seinem heiligen Berge.

A psalm of a canticle, for the sons of Core, on the second day of the week. Great is the Lord, and exceedingly to be praised in the city of our God, in his holy mountain.

2 Lieblich erhebt sich, die Freude der ganzen Erde ist der Zionberg, im äußersten Norden die Stadt des großen Königs.

With the joy of the whole earth is mount Sion founded, on the sides of the north, the city of the great king.

3 Gott hat sich in ihren Palästen als eine Schutzwehr kund gethan.

In her houses shall God be known, when he shall protect her.

4 Denn fürwahr, die Könige versammelten sich, zogen miteinander heran.

For behold the kings of the earth assembled themselves: they gathered together.

5 Sobald sie sahen, erstaunten sie; sie wurden bestürzt, sind angstvoll entflohn.

So they saw, and they wondered, they were troubled, they were moved:

6 Beben ergriff sie daselbst, Zittern wie eine Gebärende.

Trembling took hold of them. There were pains as of a woman in labour.

7 Durch den Ostwind zerschmetterst du Tarsis-Schiffe.

With a vehement wind thou shalt break in pieces the ships of Tharsis.

8 Wie wir's gehört haben, also haben wir's gesehen in der Stadt Jahwes der Heerscharen, in der Stadt unseres Gottes: Gott läßt sie ewig feststehn! (Sela)

As we have heard, so have we seen, in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God hath founded it for ever.

9 Wir bedenken, o Gott, deine Gnade drinnen in deinem Tempel.

We have received thy mercy, O God, in the midst of thy temple.

10 Wie dein Name, o Gott, so erschallt auch dein Lobpreis bis an die Enden der Erde; deine Rechte ist voll von Gerechtigkeit.

According to thy name, O God, so also is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of justice.

11 Der Zionberg freut sich, die Töchter Judas frohlocken um deiner Gerichte willen.

Let mount Sion rejoice, and the daughters of Juda be glad; because of thy judgments, O Lord.

12 Umgehet Zion, umwandelt sie ringsum, zählt ihre Türme,

Surround Sion, and encompass her: tell ye in her towers.

13 Richtet euer Augenmerk auf ihren Wall, durchschreitet ihre Paläste, damit ihr dem künftigen Geschlecht erzählt,

Set your hearts on her strength; and distribute her houses, that ye may relate it in another generation.

14 daß dieses Gott, unser Gott, ist; er wird uns führen immer und ewig.

For this is God, our God unto eternity, and for ever and ever: he shall rule us for evermore.
