Psalm 44
1 Dem Musikmeister. Von den Korachiten, ein Maskil. Gott, mit unseren Ohren haben wir gehört, unsere Väter haben uns erzählt: Ein großes Werk hast du in ihren Tagen ausgeführt, in den Tagen der Vorzeit.
For the chief musician. A psalm of the sons of Korah. A maschil. We have heard with our ears, God, our fathers have told us what work you did in their days, in the days of old.
2 Mit deiner Hand vertriebst du Völker und pflanztest sie ein; du behandeltest Nationen übel, aber sie breitetest du aus.
You drove out the nations with your hand, but you planted our people; you afflicted the peoples, but you spread our people out in the land.
3 Denn nicht durch ihr Schwert haben sie das Land in Besitz genommen und nicht ihr Arm schaffte ihnen Sieg, sondern deine Rechte und dein Arm und das Licht deines Angesichts, denn du hattest an ihnen Wohlgefallen.
For they did not obtain the land for their possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them; but your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, because you were favorable to them.
4 Du bist ja mein König, o Gott: entbiete Hilfe für Jakob!
God, You are my King; command victory for Jacob.
5 Durch dich stoßen wir unsere Bedränger nieder und durch deinen Namen zertreten wir unsere Widersacher.
Through you we will push down our adversaries; through your name we will tread them under, those who rise up against us.
6 Denn ich verlasse mich nicht auf meinen Bogen, und mein Schwert schafft mir nicht Sieg.
For I will not trust in my bow, neither will my sword save me.
7 Sondern du schaffst uns Sieg über unsere Bedränger und machst zu Schanden, die uns hassen.
But you have saved us from our adversaries, and have put to shame those who hate us.
8 Gottes rühmten wir uns allezeit und preisen immerdar deinen Namen. (Sela)
In God we have made our boast all the day long, and we will give thanks to your name forever. (Selah)
9 Und doch hast du uns verworfen und ließest uns in Schmach fallen und ziehst nicht mehr aus mit unseren Heeren.
But now you have thrown us off and brought us dishonor, and you do not go out with our armies.
10 Du lässest uns zurückweichen vor dem Bedränger, und die uns hassen, haben sich Beute gemacht.
You make us turn back from the adversary; and those who hate us take spoil for themselves.
11 Du gabst uns hin wie Schafe zum Verzehren und zerstreutest uns unter die Heiden.
You have made us like sheep to be slaughtered and have scattered us among the nations.
12 Du verkauftest dein Volk um ein Spottgeld und gewannst nichts durch ihren Kaufpreis.
You sell your people for nothing; you have not increased your wealth by doing so.
13 Du machst uns zur Schmach bei unseren Nachbarn, zum Spott und Hohn bei unserer Umgebung.
You make us a rebuke to our neighbors, scoffed and mocked by those around us.
14 Du machst uns zum Sprichwort unter den Heiden, und daß die Völker über uns den Kopf schütteln.
You make us an insult among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples.
15 Meine Schmach steht mir immerfort vor Augen, und die Schande, die mir widerfahren, bedeckt mich,
All the day long my dishonor is before me, and the shame of my face has covered me
16 daß ich die Schänder und Lästerer hören und die Feinde und Rachgierigen sehen muß.
because of the voice of him who rebukes and insults, because of the enemy and the avenger.
17 Dies alles ist über uns gekommen, obschon wir deiner nicht vergessen, noch deinem Bunde die Treue gebrochen hatten.
All this has come on us; yet we have not forgotten you or dealt falsely with your covenant.
18 Unser Herz ist nicht zurückgewichen, noch bog unser Schritt ab von deinem Pfade,
Our heart has not turned back; our steps have not gone from your way.
19 daß du uns an der Stätte der Schakale zermalmt und uns mit Finsternis bedeckt hast.
Yet you have severely broken us in the place of jackals and covered us with the shadow of death.
20 Wenn wir des Namens unseres Gottes vergessen und unsere Hände ausgestreckt hätten zu einem fremden Gotte,
If we have forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a strange god,
21 würde Gott das nicht erforschen? Er kennt ja die Geheimnisse des Herzens!
would not God search this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart.
22 Nein, um deinetwillen werden wir immerfort dahingewürgt, werden geachtet wie Schlachtschafe!
Indeed, for your sake we are being killed all day long; we are considered to be sheep for the slaughter.
23 Wache auf! Warum schläfst du, Herr? Erwache, verwirf nicht für immer!
Awake, why do you sleep, Lord? Arise, do not throw us off permanently.
24 Warum verbirgst du dein Antlitz, vergissest unseres Elends und unserer Drangsal?
Why do you hide your face and forget our affliction and our oppression?
25 Denn unsere Seele ist bis zum Staube gebeugt, es klebt am Boden unser Leib.
For we have melted away into the dust; our bodies cling to the earth.
26 Mache dich auf, uns zu helfen, und erlöse uns um deiner Gnade willen!
Rise up for our help and redeem us for the sake of your covenant faithfulness.
