Psalm 33
1 Jubelt, ihr Frommen, über Jahwe; den Rechtschaffenen ziemt Lobgesang.
Rejoice in Yahweh, you righteous; praise is appropriate for the upright.
2 Danket Jahwe mit der Zither, auf zehnsaitiger Harfe spielet ihm!
Give thanks to Yahweh with the harp; sing praises to him with the harp of ten strings.
3 Singt ihm ein neues Lied, schlagt kräftig die Saiten unter Jubelschall!
Sing to him a new song; play skillfully and sing with joy.
4 Denn das Wort Jahwes ist wahrhaftig, und all' sein Thun in Treuen.
For Yahweh's word is upright, and everything he does is fair.
5 Er liebt Gerechtigkeit und Recht; von der Huld Jahwes ist die Erde voll.
He loves righteousness and justice. The earth is full of Yahweh's covenant faithfulness.
6 Durch das Wort Jahwes ist der Himmel gemacht, und sein ganzes Heer durch den Hauch seines Mundes.
By the word of Yahweh the heavens were made, and all the stars were made by the breath of his mouth.
7 Er sammelt die Gewässer des Meers wie in einem Schlauch, legt die Fluten in Vorratskammern.
He gathers the waters of the sea together like a heap; he puts the oceans in storehouses.
8 Vor Jahwe fürchte sich die ganze Erde; vor ihm müssen alle Bewohner des Erdkreises erbeben.
Let the whole earth fear Yahweh; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
9 Denn er gebot, da geschah's; er befahl, da stand es da.
For he spoke, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood in place.
10 Jahwe hat den Ratschluß der Heiden zu nichte gemacht, die Gedanken der Völker vereitelt.
Yahweh frustrates the alliances of nations; he overrules the plans of the peoples.
11 Der Ratschluß Jahwes bleibt ewig bestehn, seines Herzens Gedanken für alle Zukunft.
The plans of Yahweh stand forever, the plans of his heart for all generations.
12 Wohl dem Volke, dessen Gott Jahwe ist, dem Volke, das er sich zum Eigentum erwählt hat!
Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people whom he has chosen as his own inheritance.
13 Jahwe blickte vom Himmel herab, sah alle Menschenkinder;
Yahweh looks from heaven; he sees all the people.
14 von seinem Wohnsitze schaute er nach allen Bewohnern der Erde.
From the place where he lives, he looks down on all who live on the earth.
15 Er bildete ihnen insgesamt das Herz, er merkt auf alle ihre Thaten.
He who shapes the hearts of them all observes all their deeds.
16 Der König siegt nicht durch die Größe des Heers, der Held rettet sich nicht durch die Größe der Kraft.
No king is saved by a vast army; a warrior is not saved by his great strength.
17 Betrogen ist, wer vom Rosse den Sieg erhofft, und durch die Größe seiner Stärke errettet es nicht.
A horse is a false hope for victory; in spite of his great strength, he cannot rescue.
18 Fürwahr, das Auge Jahwes sieht auf die, die ihn fürchten, die auf seine Gnade hoffen,
See, Yahweh's eye is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his covenant faithfulness
19 daß er ihre Seele vom Tod errette und sie in der Hungersnot am Leben erhalte.
to deliver their lives from death and to keep them alive in times of famine.
20 Unsere Seele harrt auf Jahwe; er ist unsere Hilfe und unser Schild.
We wait for Yahweh; he is our help and our shield.
21 Ja, über ihn freut sich unser Herz, ja, wir vertrauen auf seinen heiligen Namen.
Our hearts rejoice in him, for we trust in his holy name.
22 Deine Gnade, Jahwe, sei über uns, wie wir auf dich hoffen!
Let your covenant faithfulness, Yahweh, be with us as we put our hope in you.
