1 Wallfahrtslieder. Von David. Ich freute mich, als man zu mir sprach: “Laßt uns zum Tempel Jahwes gehn!”

A Song of Ascents. By David. I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to the LORD’s house!”

2 Unsere Füße stehen in deinen Thoren, Jerusalem!

Our feet are standing within your gates, Jerusalem!

3 Jerusalem, du wiedergebaute, wie eine Stadt, die allzumal zusammengefügt ist,

Jerusalem is built as a city that is compact together,

4 wohin die Stämme hinaufziehen, die Stämme Jahs, nach dem Gesetz für Israel, um dem Namen Jahwes zu danken.

where the tribes go up, even the LORD’s tribes, according to an ordinance for Israel, to give thanks to the LORD’s name.

5 Denn dort stehen Gerichtssessel, Sessel des Hauses Davids.

For there are set thrones for judgement, the thrones of David’s house.

6 Erbittet Frieden für Jerusalem: Mögen Ruhe haben, die dich lieben.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Those who love you will prosper.

7 Friede sei in deinen Bollwerken, Ruhe in deinen Palästen.

Peace be within your walls, and prosperity within your palaces.

8 Um meiner Brüder und Freunde willen laßt mich sprechen: Friede sei in dir!

For my brothers’ and companions’ sakes, I will now say, “Peace be within you.”

9 Um des Tempels Jahwes, unseres Gottes, willen will ich dein Bestes suchen.

For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your good.
