Psalm 120

1 Wallfahrtslieder. Zu Jahwe in meiner Not rief ich, und er erhörte mich.

A song of ascents. In my distress I cried to the LORD, and He answered me.

2 Jahwe, errette meine Seele von lügnerischer Lippe, von trügerischer Zunge.

Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips and a deceitful tongue.

3 Was giebt dir und was mehrt dir die trügerische Zunge?

What will He do to you, and what will be added to you, O deceitful tongue?

4 Geschärfte Kriegerpfeile samt Ginsterkohlen!

Sharp arrows will come from the warrior, with burning coals of the broom tree!

5 Wehe mir, daß ich bei Mesech zu Gaste bin, bei den Zelten Kedars wohne!

Woe to me that I dwell in Meshech, that I live among the tents of Kedar!

6 Zu lange schon wohnt meine Seele bei solchen, die den Frieden hassen.

Too long have I dwelt among those who hate peace.

7 Ich bin ganz Friede, aber wenn ich etwas rede, sind sie auf Kampf aus.

I am in favor of peace; but when I speak, they want war.
