Psalm 1

1 Wohl dem Manne, der nicht nach der Gesinnung der Gottlosen wandelt noch auf den Weg der Sünder tritt, noch auf dem Sitze der Spötter sitzt,

Blessed is the man who has not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, and has not stood in the way of sinners, and has not sat in the seat of evil men.

2 sondern am Gesetze Jahwes seine Lust hat und Tag und Nacht über sein Gesetz nachsinnt!

But his pleasure is in the law of the Lord; and in his law will he meditate day and night.

3 Der ist wie ein an Wasserläufen gepflanzter Baum, der seine Frucht bringt zu seiner Zeit, und dessen Blätter nicht verwelken, und alles, was er thut, führt er glücklich hinaus.

And he shall be as a tree planted by the brooks of waters, which shall yield its fruit in its season, and its leaf shall not fall off; and whatsoever he shall do shall be prospered.

4 Nicht so die Gottlosen! Sie gleichen der Spreu, die der Wind verweht.

Not so the ungodly; —not so: but rather as the chaff which the wind scatters away from the face of the earth.

5 Darum werden die Gottlosen im Gerichte nicht bestehn, noch die Sünder in der Gemeinde der Frommen.

Therefore the ungodly shall not rise in judgment, nor sinners in the counsel of the just.

6 Denn der Herr kennt den Weg der Frommen, aber der Gottlosen Weg vergeht!

For the Lord knows the way of the righteous; but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
