Sprueche 9
1 Die Weisheit hat ihr Haus gebaut, sich ihre sieben Säulen ausgehauen.
Wisdom hath built her house; she hath hewn out her seven pillars;
2 Sie hat ihr Schlachtvieh geschlachtet, ihren Wein gemischt, auch ihren Tisch bereitet.
She hath killed her cattle; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also set in order her table.
3 Sie hat ihre Mägde ausgesandt; ihr Ruf ergeht oben auf den Anhöhen der Stadt:
She hath sent forth her maidens: she inviteth [her guests] upon the top of the highest places of the town.
4 Wer einfältig ist, kehre hier ein! Wem es an Verstand gebricht, zu dem spricht sie:
Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that is void of sense, she saith to him,
5 Kommt, genießt von meiner Speise und trinkt von dem Weine, den ich gemischt habe.
“Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
6 Laßt fahren, ihr Einfältigen, eure Thorheit, so werdet ihr leben, und geht einher auf dem Wege der Einsicht.
Forsake simplicity, and live; and go onward on the way of understanding.
7 Wer den Spötter zurechtweist, holt sich selber Schande, und wer den Gottlosen tadelt, dem wird's zum eigenen Schandfleck.
He that correcteth a scorner acquireth for himself abuse; and he that reproveth the wicked getteth himself a blemish.
8 Tadle den Spötter nicht, damit er dich nicht hasse; tadle den Weisen, so wird er dich lieben.
Do not correct a scorner, lest he hate thee: reprove a wise man, and he will love thee.
9 Gieb dem Weisen, so wird er noch weiser werden; belehre den Frommen, so wird er sein Wissen mehren.
Give to the wise [instruction], and he will become yet wiser: impart knowledge to the righteous, and he will increase his information.
10 Der Weisheit Anfang ist die Furcht Jahwes, und den Heiligen erkennen ist Einsicht.
The commencement of wisdom is the fear of the Lord; and the knowledge of the Most Holy One is understanding.
11 Denn durch mich werden deiner Tage viel, und werden dir die Lebensjahre gemehrt werden.
For through me shall thy days be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased unto thee.
12 Bist du weise, so bist du dir zu gut weise; bist du aber ein Spötter, so wirst du allein es tragen.
If thou art become wise, thou art wise for thyself; but if thou art a scorner, thou alone wilt have to bear it.”
13 Frau Thorheit ist leidenschaftlich, voll Einfältigkeit und ganz unwissend:
The woman of folly is noisy: she is simple, and knoweth not what [to do].
14 Die sitzt an der Pforte ihres Hauses, auf einem Thron auf den Anhöhen der Stadt,
And she sitteth at the door of her house, upon a chair in the high places of the town.
15 daß sie zurufe denen, die des Wegs vorüber gehen, die auf ihren Pfaden geradeaus wandeln:
To call the wayfarers who go straight forward on their paths.
16 Wer einfältig ist, kehre hier ein! und wem es an Verstand gebricht, zu dem spricht sie:

17 Gestohlenes Wasser ist süß, und heimliches Brot schmeckt lieblich.
“Stolen waters are sweet, and bread of secrecy is pleasant.”
