Sprueche 4
1 Hört, ihr Söhne, des Vaters Zucht und merkt auf, daß ihr Einsicht kennen lernt!
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend that you may know prudence.
2 Denn gute Lehre gebe ich euch, laßt meine Unterweisung nicht außer acht!
I will give you a good gift, forsake not my law.
3 Denn da ich meinem Vater ein Sohn war, ein zarter und einziger unter der Obhut meiner Mutter,
For I also was my father’s son, tender and as an only son in the sight of my mother:
4 da unterwies er mich und sprach zu mir: Laß dein Herz meine Worte festhalten; bewahre meine Gebote, so wirst du leben!
And he taught me, and said: Let thy heart receive my words, keep my commandments, and thou shalt live.
5 Erwirb Weisheit, erwirb Einsicht! Vergiß nicht und weiche nicht ab von den Reden meines Mundes!
Get wisdom, get prudence: forget not, neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6 Laß sie nicht außer acht, so wird sie dich bewahren; gewinne sie lieb, so wird sie dich behüten.
Forsake her not, and she shall keep thee: love her, and she shall preserve thee.
7 Der Weisheit Anfang ist: Erwirb Weisheit und mit all' deinem Besitz setze dich in den Besitz der Einsicht.
The beginning of wisdom, get wisdom, and with all thy possession purchase prudence.
8 Halte sie hoch, so wird sie dich erhöhen; sie wird dich zu Ehren bringen, wenn du sie umhalsest.
Take hold on her, and she shall exalt thee: thou shalt be glorified by her, when thou shalt embrace her.
9 Sie wird einen lieblichen Kranz um dein Haupt winden, eine prächtige Krone wird sie dir bescheren.
She shall give to thy head increase of graces, and protect thee with a noble crown.
10 Höre, mein Sohn, und nimm meine Reden an, so werden deiner Lebensjahre viel werden.
Hear, O my son, and receive my words, that years of life may be multiplied to thee.
11 Über den Weg der Weisheit unterweise ich dich, lasse dich auf den Geleisen der Geradheit einherschreiten.
I will shew thee the way of wisdom, I will lead thee by the paths of equity:
12 Wenn du wandelst, wird dein Schritt nicht beengt sein, und wenn du läufst, wirst du nicht straucheln.
Which when thou shalt have entered, thy steps shall not be straitened, and when thou runnest thou shalt not meet a stumblingblock.
13 Halte fest an der Zucht, laß nicht los! Bewahre sie, denn sie ist dein Leben.
Take hold on instruction, leave it not: keep it, because it is thy life.
14 Begieb dich nicht auf den Pfad der Gottlosen und gehe nicht auf dem Wege der Bösen einher.
Be not delighted in the paths of the wicked, neither let the way of evil men please thee.
15 Laß ihn fahren, gehe nicht auf ihn hinüber; lenke von ihm ab und gehe vorüber.
Flee from it, pass not by it: go aside, and forsake it.
16 Denn sie schlafen nicht, wenn sie nichts Böses gethan haben; und der Schlaf ist ihnen geraubt, wenn sie nicht jemanden zu Falle gebracht haben.
For they sleep not except they have done evil: and their sleep is taken away unless they have made some to fall.
17 Denn sie nähren sich vom Brote der Gottlosigkeit und trinken den Wein der Gewaltthat.
They eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of iniquity.
18 Der Frommen Pfad ist wie lichter Morgenglanz, der bis zur Tageshöhe immer heller leuchtet.
But the path of the just, as a shining light, goeth forwards and increaseth even to perfect day.
19 Der Gottlosen Weg ist wie das nächtliche Dunkel; sie wissen nicht, wodurch sie zu Falle kommen werden.
The way of the wicked is darksome: they know not where they fall.
20 Mein Sohn, merke auf meine Worte, neige meinen Reden dein Ohr!
My son, hearken to my words, and incline thy ear to my sayings.
21 Laß sie nicht von deinen Augen weichen; bewahre sie inmitten deines Herzens.
Let them not depart from thy eyes, keep them in the midst of thy heart:
22 Denn sie sind Leben für die, die sie bekommen, und bringen ihrem ganzen Leibe Gesundung.
For they are life to those that find them, and health to all flesh.
23 Mehr denn alles andere wahre dein Herz, denn von ihm geht das Leben aus.
With all watchfulness keep thy heart, because life issueth out from it.
24 Thue Falschheit des Mundes von dir ab und Verkehrtheit der Lippen laß ferne von dir sein.
Remove from thee a froward mouth, and let detracting lips be far from thee.
25 Laß deine Augen stracks vor sich sehen und deine Augenlider gerade vor dich hinblicken.
Let thy eyes look straight on, and let thy eyelids go before thy steps.
26 Laß deines Fußes Bahn eben sein und alle deine Wege festbestimmt.
Make straight the path for thy feet, and all thy ways shall be established.
27 Biege weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken ab; halte deinen Fuß vom Bösen fern.
Decline not to the right hand, nor to the left: turn away thy foot from evil. For the Lord knoweth the ways that are on the right hand: but those are perverse which are on the left hand. But he will make thy courses straight, he will bring forward thy ways in peace.
