1 Rühme dich nicht des morgenden Tags, denn du weißt nicht, was ein Tag gebären mag.
Boast not thy selfe of to morowe: for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
2 Es rühme dich ein Anderer und nicht dein eigener Mund, ein Fremder, aber nicht deine eigenen Lippen.
Let another man prayse thee, and not thine owne mouth: a stranger, and not thine owne lips.
3 Schwere mag ein Stein haben und Gewicht der Sand, aber des Narren Unmut ist schwerer als beide.
A stone is heauie, and the sand weightie: but a fooles wrath is heauier then them both.
4 Grimmig mag die Wut sein und der Zorn überfluten - aber wer kann vor der Eifersucht bestehen?
Anger is cruell, and wrath is raging: but who can stand before enuie?
5 Besser unverhüllte Rüge, als geheim gehaltene Liebe.
Open rebuke is better then secret loue.
6 Treugemeint sind Wunden von der Hand des Liebenden, aber abscheulich die Küsse des Hassers.
The wounds of a louer are faithful, and the kisses of an enemie are pleasant.
7 Ein Gesättigter tritt Honigseim mit Füßen, aber ein Hungriger findet alles Bittere süß.
The person that is full, despiseth an hony combe: but vnto the hungry soule euery bitter thing is sweete.
8 Wie ein Vogel, der von seinem Neste geflohen ist, also ein Mann, der flüchtig ward aus seiner Heimat.
As a bird that wandreth from her nest, so is a man that wandreth from his owne place.
9 Salböl und Räucherwerk erfreuen das Herz, aber süßer ist einem der Freund als duftende Hölzer.
As oyntment and perfume reioyce the heart, so doeth the sweetenes of a mans friend by hearty counsell.
10 Deinen Freund und deines Vaters Freund verlaß nicht und in deines Bruders Haus geh nicht an deinem Unglückstage. Besser ein Nachbar in der Nähe als ein Bruder in der Ferne.
Thine owne friend and thy fathers friend forsake thou not: neither enter into thy brothers house in the day of thy calamitie: for better is a neighbour that is neere, then a brother farre off.
11 Sei weise, mein Sohn, und erfreue mein Herz, damit ich dem, der mich schmäht, Rede stehen kann.
My sonne, be wise, and reioyce mine heart, that I may answere him that reprocheth me.
12 Der Kluge sieht das Unglück und verbirgt sich, die Einfältigen aber gehen weiter und müssen's büßen.
A prudent man seeth the plague, and hideth himselfe: but the foolish goe on still, and are punished.
13 Nimm ihm sein Kleid, denn er hat für einen Fremden gebürgt, und um einer Auswärtigen willen pfände ihn!
Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and a pledge of him for the stranger.
14 Wer seinen Nächsten am frühen Morgen mit lautem Segenswunsche grüßt, dem wird es als Fluch angerechnet.
He that prayseth his friend with a loude voyce, rising earely in the morning, it shall be counted to him as a curse.
15 Eine rinnende Dachtraufe zur Zeit des Regenwetters und ein zänkisches Weib, die gleichen sich:
A continual dropping in the day of raine, and a contentious woman are alike.
16 Wer sie aufhält, der hält den Wind auf und will Öl mit seiner Rechten fassen.
He that hideth her, hideth the winde, and she is as ye oyle in his right hand, that vttereth it selfe.
17 Eisen schärft Eisen; also schärft ein Mann die Schneide des andern.
Yron sharpeneth yron, so doeth man sharpen the face of his friend.
18 Wer den Feigenbaum hütet, wird seine Frucht genießen, und wer seines Herrn wartet, wird geehrt werden.
He that keepeth the fig tree, shall eate the fruite thereof: so he that waiteth vpon his master, shall come to honour.
19 Wie im Wasser das Antlitz dem Antlitz entspricht, ebenso ist eines Menschen Herz gegen den andern.
As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.
20 Unterwelt und Abgrund bekommen nie genug; so sind auch der Menschen Augen unersättlich. (Sheol h7585)
The graue and destruction can neuer be full, so the eyes of man can neuer be satisfied. (Sheol h7585)
21 Der Tiegel ist für das Silber und der Schmelzofen für das Gold, und ein Mann wird beurteilt nach dem, was man von ihm rühmt.
As is the fining pot for siluer and the fornace for golde, so is euery man according to his dignitie.
22 Wenn du den Narren im Mörser zerstießest mit dem Stämpfel wie Grütze, so ließe doch seine Narrheit nicht von ihm.
Though thou shouldest bray a foole in a morter among wheate brayed with a pestell, yet will not his foolishnes depart from him.
23 Habe wohl acht auf das Aussehen deiner Schafe, richte deine Aufmerksamkeit auf die Herden.
Be diligent to know ye state of thy flocke, and take heede to the heardes.
24 Denn Wohlstand währt nicht für immer, noch eine Krone von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht.
For riches remaine not alway, nor the crowne from generation to generation.
25 Ist das Gras geschwunden und frisches Grün erschienen, und sind der Berge Kräuter eingesammelt,
The hey discouereth it selfe, and the grasse appeareth, and the herbes of the mountaines are gathered.
26 dann hast du Lämmer für deine Kleidung und Böcke als Kaufpreis für einen Acker
The lambes are for thy clothing, and the goates are the price of the fielde.
27 und genug Ziegenmilch zu deiner Nahrung, zur Nahrung für dein Haus, und Lebensunterhalt für deine Mägde.
And let the milke of the goates be sufficient for thy foode, for the foode of thy familie, and for the sustenance of thy maydes.
