Sprueche 22
1 Ein guter Name ist wertvoller als großer Reichtum; besser als Silber und Gold ist Gunst.
A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
2 Reich und Arm begegnen einander: der sie alle schuf, ist Jahwe.
The rich and poor meet together: YHWH is the maker of them all.
3 Der Kluge sieht das Unglück und verbirgt sich; die Einfältigen aber gehen weiter und müssen's büßen.
A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.
4 Der Lohn der Demut, der Furcht Jahwes ist Reichtum, Ehre und Leben.
By humility and the fear of YHWH are riches, and honour, and life.
5 Dornen, Schlingen liegen auf dem Wege des Falschen; wer sein Leben bewahrt, bleibt fern von ihnen.
Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.
6 Erziehe den Knaben gemäß dem Wege, den er einhalten soll, so wird er auch im Alter nicht davon abgehen.
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
7 Der Reiche herrscht über die Armen, und wer borgt, ist ein Knecht dessen, der ihm leiht.
The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
8 Wer Unrecht säet, wird Unheil ernten; durch die Rute seines Zornesausbruchs kommt er um.
He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.
9 Der Gütige wird gesegnet, denn er giebt von seinem Brote dem Geringen.
He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
10 Treibe den Spötter fort, so geht der Zank weg, und ein Ende nimmt Streit und Schimpf.
Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.
11 Jahwe liebt den, der reines Herzens ist; weß Lippen voll Anmut sind, des Freund ist der König.
He that loveth pureness of heart, for the favour of his lips the king shall be his friend.
12 Die Augen Jahwes behüten die Erkenntnis, aber des Treulosen Worte bringt er zu Fall.
The eyes of YHWH preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.
13 Der Faule spricht: es ist ein Löwe draußen; ich könnte mitten in den Straßen erwürgt werden.
The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.
14 Eine tiefe Grube ist der Mund der fremden Weiber; wer von Jahwes Zorn getroffen ist, fällt darein.
The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of YHWH shall fall therein.
15 Haftet Narrheit in des Knaben Herzen, die Rute der Zucht wird sie daraus entfernen.
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
16 Man bedrückt einen Geringen, daß seines Gutes viel werde; man giebt einem Reichen, aber es gerät ihm nur zum Mangel.
He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.
17 Neige dein Ohr und höre Worte von Weisen und richte deinen Sinn auf meine Lehre.
Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.
18 Denn lieblich ist's, wenn du sie in deinem Innern bewahrst, wenn sie allzumal auf deinen Lippen bereit sind,
For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.
19 damit auf Jahwe dein Vertrauen stehe, unterweise ich dich heute, ja dich.
That thy trust may be in YHWH, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.
20 Fürwahr, ich schreibe dir Bedeutsames auf, mit Ratschlägen und Belehrung,
Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,
21 damit ich dir Wahrheit kundthue, zuverlässige Worte, daß du zuverlässigen Bescheid bringest dem, der dich sendet.
That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?
22 Beraube nicht den Geringen, weil er gering ist, und zermalme nicht den Elenden im Thore;
Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:
23 denn Jahwe wird ihre Sache führen und wird denen, die sie berauben, das Leben rauben.
For YHWH will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.
24 Geselle dich nicht zu dem Zornmütigen und mit einem Hitzkopfe sollst du keinen Umgang haben,
Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:
25 damit du dich nicht an seine Pfade gewöhnest, und dir einen Fallstrick für dein Leben holest.
Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
26 Sei nicht unter denen, die Handschlag geben, unter denen, die sich für Schulden verbürgen;
Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.
27 denn wenn du nichts hast, um zu bezahlen, warum soll man dir das Bette unter dem Leibe wegnehmen?
If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
28 Verrücke nicht die uralte Grenze, die deine Väter gemacht haben.
Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
29 Siehst du einen behend in seinem Geschäfte, vor Königen kann er sich zum Dienste stellen; nicht wird er sich vor Unberühmten stellen.
Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
