Sprueche 10
1 Die Sprüche Salomos. Ein weiser Sohn macht dem Vater Freude, aber ein thörichter Sohn ist seiner Mutter Grämen.
A wise son makes [his] father glad: but a foolish son is a grief to his mother.
2 Durch Unrecht erworbene Schätze schaffen keinen Nutzen, aber Gerechtigkeit errettet vom Tode.
Treasures shall not profit the lawless: but righteousness shall deliver from death.
3 Jahwe läßt den Hunger des Frommen nicht ungestillt, aber die Gier der Gottlosen stößt er zurück.
The Lord will not famish a righteous soul: but he will overthrow the life of the ungodly.
4 Wer mit lässiger Hand arbeitet, verarmt, aber der Fleißigen Hand schafft Reichtum.
Poverty brings a man low: but the hands of the vigorous make rich. A son who is instructed shall be wise, and shall use the fool for a servant.
5 Wer im Sommer sammelt, ist klug, wer sich in der Erntezeit dem Schlaf ergiebt, handelt schändlich.
A wise son is saved from heat: but a lawless son is blighted of the winds in harvest.
6 Segnungen kommen über das Haupt des Frommen, aber der Gottlosen Mund birgt Unbill.
The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the just: but untimely grief shall cover the mouth of the ungodly.
7 Das Gedächtnis des Frommen bleibt im Segen, aber der Gottlosen Name wird verwesen.
The memory of the just is praised; but the name of the ungodly [man] is extinguished.
8 Wer weises Herzens ist, nimmt die Gebote an, wer aber ein Narrenmaul hat, kommt zu Fall.
A wise man in heart will receive commandments; but he that is unguarded in his lips shall be overthrown in his perverseness.
9 Wer in Unschuld einhergeht, wandelt sicher, wer aber verkehrte Wege einschlägt, wird erkannt werden.
He that walks simply, walks confidently; but he that perverts his ways shall be known.
10 Wer mit dem Auge blinzelt, verursacht Kränkung; wer aber mit Freimut rügt, stiftet Frieden.
He that winks with his eyes deceitfully, procures griefs for men; but he that reproves boldly is a peacemaker.
11 Ein Born des Lebens ist des Frommen Mund, aber der Gottlosen Mund birgt Unbill.
[There is] a fountain of life in the hand of a righteous man; but destruction shall cover the mouth of the ungodly.
12 Haß erregt Zänkereien, aber alle Vergehungen deckt die Liebe zu.
Hatred stirs up strife; but affection covers all that do not love strife.
13 Auf den Lippen des Verständigen wird Weisheit gefunden, aber die Rute gebührt dem Rücken des Unsinnigen.
He that brings forth wisdom from his lips smites the fool with a rod.
14 Die Weisen halten mit ihrer Erkenntnis zurück, aber des Narren Mund ist naher Einsturz.
The wise will hide discretion; but the mouth of the hasty draws near to ruin.
15 Des Reichen Habe ist ihm eine feste Stadt; die Dürftigen aber macht ihre Armut verzagt.
The wealth of rich men is a strong city; but poverty is the ruin of the ungodly.
16 Der Erwerb des Frommen gereicht zum Leben, des Gottlosen Einkommen gereicht zur Sünde.
The works of the righteous produce life; but the fruits of the ungodly [produce] sins.
17 Den Pfad zum Leben geht, wer Zucht bewahrt; wer aber Rüge außer acht läßt, geht irre.
Instruction keeps the right ways of life; but instruction unchastened goes astray.
18 Wer Haß verbirgt, ist ein Lügenmaul, und wer üble Nachrede verbreitet, ist ein Thor.
Righteous lips cover enmity; but they that utter railings are most foolish.
19 Wo der Worte viel sind, geht's ohne Vergehung nicht ab; wer aber seine Lippen zügelt, handelt klug.
By a multitude of words you shall not escape sin; but if you refrain your lips you will be prudent.
20 Auserlesenes Silber ist des Frommen Zunge; der Gottlosen Verstand ist wenig wert.
The tongue of the just is tried silver; but the heart of the ungodly shall fail.
21 Des Frommen Lippen weiden viele, aber die Narren sterben an Unverstand.
The lips of the righteous know sublime [truths]: but the foolish die in lack.
22 Der Segen Jahwes, der macht reich, und eigenes Mühen kann nichts zu ihm hinzuthun.
The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the righteous; it enriches [him], and grief of heart shall not be added to [it].
23 Als ein Vergnügen gilt dem Thoren das Verüben von Schandthat, dem einsichtigen Manne aber die Weisheit.
A fool does mischief in sport; but wisdom brings forth prudence for a man.
24 Wovor dem Gottlosen graut, das kommt über ihn; aber was die Frommen begehren, wird ihnen gegeben.
The ungodly is engulfed in destruction; but the desire of the righteous is acceptable.
25 Sobald die Windsbraut daherfährt, ist's mit dem Gottlosen vorbei, aber der Fromme steht auf dauerndem Grund.
When the storm passes by, the ungodly vanishes away; but the righteous turns aside and escapes for ever.
26 Was der Essig für die Zähne und der Rauch für die Augen, das ist der Faule für den, der ihn sendet.
As a sour grape is hurtful to the teeth, and smoke to the eyes, so iniquity hurts those that practise it.
27 Die Furcht Jahwes mehrt die Lebenstage, aber der Gottlosen Jahre werden verkürzt.
The fear of the Lord adds [length] of days: but the years of the ungodly shall be shortened.
28 Das Harren der Frommen endigt in Freude, aber der Gottlosen Hoffnung wird zunichte.
Joy rests long with the righteous: but the hope of the ungodly shall perish.
29 Das Walten Jahwes ist eine Schutzwehr für die Unschuld, aber Bestürzung für die Übeltäter.
The fear of the Lord is a strong hold of the saints: but ruin [comes] to them that work wickedness.
30 Der Fromme wird nimmermehr wanken, aber die Gottlosen werden nicht im Lande wohnen bleiben.
The righteous shall never fail: but the ungodly shall not dwell in the earth.
31 Der Mund des Frommen läßt Weisheit sprießen, aber die Zunge der Verkehrtheit wird ausgerottet.
The mouth of the righteous drops wisdom: but the tongue of the unjust shall perish.
32 Die Lippen des Frommen wissen, was wohlgefällig ist, aber der Gottlosen Mund ist eitel Verkehrtheit.
The lips of just men drop grace: but the mouth of the ungodly is perverse.
