Nehemia 1
1 Der Bericht Nehemias, des Sohnes Hakaljas. Im Monat Kislev des zwanzigsten Jahres, als ich in der Burg Susa war,
The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah. Now it happened in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,
2 kam Hanani, einer meiner Brüder, mit einigen Männern aus Juda. Als ich sie nun über die Juden, die Geretteten, die von den Weggeführten übrig geblieben waren, und über Jerusalem befragte,
that Hanani, one of my brothers, came, he and certain men out of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped, who were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
3 da antworteten sie mir: Die Übriggebliebenen, die von den Weggeführten dort in der Provinz übrig geblieben sind, sind in großem Elend und in Schmach, da die Mauern Jerusalems auseinandergerissen und seine Thore verbrannt sind.
They said to me, "The remnant who are left of the captivity there in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and its gates are burned with fire."
4 Als ich diesen Bericht vernahm, setzte ich mich hin und weinte und wehklagte tagelang, und ich fastete und betete immerfort vor dem Gotte des Himmels
It happened, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days; and I fasted and prayed before the God of heaven,
5 und sprach: Ach, Jahwe, du Gott des Himmels, du großer und furchtbarer Gott, der am Gnadenbunde festhält gegenüber denen, die ihn lieben und seine Gebote halten!
and said, "I beg you, LORD, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and keep his commandments:
6 Laß doch dein Ohr aufmerken und deine Augen offen sein, daß du das Gebet deines Knechtes hörest, das ich gegenwärtig Tag und Nacht für die Israeliten, deine Knechte, vor dir bete und in welchem ich die Sünden der Israeliten bekenne, die wir gegen dich begangen haben; ja, auch ich und meine Familie haben uns versündigt!
Let your ear now be attentive, and your eyes open, that you may listen to the prayer of your servant, which I pray before you at this time, day and night, for the children of Israel your servants while I confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against you. Yes, I and my father's house have sinned.
7 Gar übel haben wir gegen dich gehandelt und haben die Gebote, Satzungen und Rechte, die du deinem Knechte Mose aufgetragen hast, nicht gehalten.
We have dealt very corruptly against you, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances, which you commanded your servant Moses.
8 Gedenke doch des Wortes, das du deinem Knechte Mose aufgetragen hast, indem du sprachst: Werdet ihr euch vergehen, so werde ich euch unter die Völker zerstreuen!
"Remember, I beg you, the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, 'If you trespass, I will scatter you abroad among the peoples;
9 Wenn ihr euch aber zu mir bekehrt und meine Gebote haltet und darnach thut: sollten auch eure Vertriebenen am Ende des Himmels sein, so will ich sie doch von dort sammeln und heimbringen an den Ort, den ich erwählt habe, um meinen Namen daselbst wohnen zu lassen.
but if you return to me, and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts were in the uttermost part of the heavens, yet will I gather them from there, and will bring them to the place that I have chosen, to cause my name to dwell there.'
10 Sie sind ja deine Knechte und dein Volk, das du durch deine große Kraft und deine starke Hand erlöst hast.
"Now these are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power, and by your strong hand.
11 Ach Herr, laß doch dein Ohr aufmerken auf das Gebet deines Knechts und auf das Gebet deiner Knechte, die ihre Freude daran haben, deinen Namen zu fürchten: laß es deinem Knechte heute gelingen und laß ihn Erbarmen finden vor diesem Manne! - Ich war aber einer von den Mundschenken des Königs.
Lord, I beg you, let your ear be attentive now to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants, who delight to fear your name; and please prosper your servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man." Now I was cup bearer to the king.
