1 Ausspruch. Das Wort Jahwes an Israel durch Maleachi.

THE BURDEN of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi.

2 Ich habe Liebe zu euch, spricht Jahwe. Und fragt ihr: Worin zeigte sich deine Liebe zu uns? so lautet darauf der Spruch Jahwes: Esau ist doch ein Bruder Jakobs; aber ich liebte Jakob

I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say: 'Wherein hast Thou loved us?' Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD; yet I loved Jacob;

3 und Esau haßte ich, so daß ich seine Berge zur Einöde werden und sein Erbteil den Wüstenschakalen anheimfallen ließ.

But Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.

4 Wenn Edom etwa denkt: Zwar ist Zerstörung über unser Land gekommen, aber wir werden auch Trümmer wieder aufbauen können! so spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen also: Sie mögen bauen, ich aber werde niederreißen, so daß man ihnen den Namen geben wird: “Frevelgebiet” und “das Volk, dem Jahwe auf ewig grollt”.

Whereas Edom saith: 'We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places'; thus saith the LORD of hosts: They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall be called The border of wickedness, and The people whom the LORD execrateth for ever.

5 Mit eigenen Augen werdet ihr es sehen und werdet selbst sagen müssen: Groß ist Jahwe weit über den Bereich Israels hinaus!

And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say: 'The LORD is great beyond the border of Israel.'

6 Ein Sohn hat seinen Vater zu ehren und ein Sklave seinen Herrn. Nun, wenn ich Vater bin, wo bleibt denn die Ehre, die mir gebührt, und wenn ich Herr bin, wo bleibt denn die Ehrfurcht, die man mir schuldet? spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen zu euch, ihr Priester, die ihr meinen Namen verunehrt. Ihr fragt: Wiefern haben wir deinen Namen verunehrt?

A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master; if then I be a father, where is My honour? and if I be a master, where is My fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise My name. And ye say: 'Wherein have we despised Thy name?'

7 Ihr bringt ja unreine Opferspeise dar auf meinem Altare! Und ihr könnt noch fragen: Wiefern haben wir dich verunehrt? während ihr doch sprecht: Der Tisch Jahwes ist uns zu schlecht!

Ye offer polluted bread upon Mine altar. And ye say: 'Wherein have we polluted thee?' In that ye say: 'The table of the LORD is contemptible.'

8 Und wenn ihr ein blindes Tier als Opfer darbringt, so ist das nach eurer Meinung nichts Schlimmes, und wenn ihr ein lahmes oder krankes darbringt, so ist das auch nichts Schlimmes! Bringe es doch einmal deinem Statthalter zum Geschenk - ob er dir dann wohl günstig gesinnt sein oder dir Huld erweisen wird! spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen.

And when ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it no evil! And when ye offer the lame and sick, is it no evil! Present it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee? or will he accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.

9 Nun also, begütigt doch Gott, damit er uns Gnade erweise! Von eurer Hand ist solches geschehen; kann er da noch einem von euch Huld erweisen? spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen.

And now, I pray you, entreat the favour of God that He may be gracious unto us! — This hath been of your doing. — Will He accept any of your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.

10 Schlösse doch einer von euch lieber gleich die Tempelthüren zu, damit ihr nicht mehr vergeblich auf meinem Altare Feuer anfachtet! Es liegt mir nichts an euch, spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen, und Opfergaben aus eurer Hand begehre ich nicht.

Oh that there were even one among you that would shut the doors, that ye might not kindle fire on Mine altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.

11 Denn vom Aufgang bis zum Untergang der Sonne ist unter den Nationen mein Name groß, und überall wird meinem Namen Rauchopfer und reine Opfergabe dargebracht; denn mein Name ist groß unter den Nationen, spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen.

For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same My name is great among the nations; and in every place offerings are presented unto My name, even pure oblations; for My name is great among the nations, saith the LORD of hosts.

12 Ihr aber entweiht ihn, indem ihr denkt: Der Tisch Jahwes ist wertlos, und das, was für uns davon abfällt, zu essen, ist uns zuwider.

But ye profane it, in that ye say: 'The table of the LORD is polluted, and the fruit thereof, even the food thereof, is contemptible.'

13 Ihr sagt: Was kostet es doch für Mühe, es zu essen! und verschmäht es, spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen, ihr bringt Geraubtes herbei und was lahm und was krank ist, und bringt es als Opfer dar: sollte ich solches von eurer Hand begehren? spricht Jahwe.

Ye say also: 'Behold, what a weariness is it!' and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye have brought that which was taken by violence, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye bring the offering; should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.

14 Vielmehr: Verflucht ein Betrüger, der, wenn er in seiner Herde ein männliches Tier hat und ein Gelübde that, dem Herrn dann ein schäbiges Muttertier opfert! Denn ein großer König bin ich, spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen, und gefürchtet ist mein Name unter den Nationen!

But cursed be he that dealeth craftily, whereas he hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the Lord a blemished thing; for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and My name is feared among the nations.
