Klagelieder 3
1 Ich bin der Mann, der Elend sah unter der Rute seines Grimms.
I, am the man, that hath seen affliction, by the rod of his indignation;
2 Mich hat er getrieben und geführt in Finsternis und tiefes Dunkel.
Me, hath he driven out and brought into darkness, and not light;
3 Ja, gegen mich kehrt er immer auf neue den ganzen Tag seine Hand.
Surely, against me, doth he again and again, turn his hand all the day.
4 Aufgerieben hat er mein Fleisch und meine Haut, meine Gebeine zerbrochen,
He hath worn out my flesh and my skin, hath broken my bones;
5 rings um mich aufgebaut Gift und Drangsal,
He hath built up against me, and carried round me, fortifications and a trench;
6 mich in tiefe Finsternis versetzt wie in der Urzeit Verstorbene.
In dark places, hath he made me sit, like the dead of age-past times.
7 Er hat mich ummauert ohne Ausweg, meine Ketten beschwert;
He hath walled up around me, that I cannot get out, hath weighted my fetter;
8 ob ich auch schreie und rufe, er hemmt mein Gebet,
Yea, when I make outcry and implore, he hath shut out my prayer;
9 vermauerte meine Wege mit Quadern, verstörte meine Pfade.
He hath walled in my ways with hewn stone, my paths, hath he caused to wind back.
10 Ein lauernder Bär war er mir, ein Löwe im Hinterhalt.
A bear lying in wait, he is to me, a lion, in secret places;
11 Er hat meine Wege in die Irre geführt und mich zerrissen, mich verödet gemacht,
My ways, hath he turned aside, and hath torn me in pieces, hath made me desolate;
12 hat seinen Bogen gespannt und mich aufgestellt als Ziel für den Pfeil,
He hath trodden his bow, and set me up, as a mark for the arrow.
13 in meine Nieren gesandt seines Köchers Söhne.
He hath caused to enter my reins, the sons of his quiver;
14 Ich ward zum Gelächter für alle Völker, ihr Spottlied den ganzen Tag.
I have become a derision to all my people, their song all the day;
15 Er sättigte mich mit Bitternissen, berauschte mich mit Wermut
He hath sated me with bitter things, hath drenched me with wormwood.
16 und ließ meine Zähne Kiesel zermalmen, mich in Asche mich wälzen.
And he hath crushed, with gravel-stones, my teeth, hath made me cower in ashes;
17 Du raubtest meiner Seele den Frieden, ich vergaß des Glücks
And thou hast thrust away from welfare, my soul, I have forgotten prosperity;
18 und sprach: dahin ist meine Lebenskraft, mein Vertrauen auf Jahwe.
And I said, Vanished is mine endurance, even mine expectation, from Yahweh.
19 Gedenke meines Elends und meiner Irrsal, des Wermuts und des Gifts!
Remember my humiliation and my fleeings, the wormwood and poison;
20 Es gedenkt, es gedenkt und ist gebeugt in mir meine Seele.
Thou wilt, indeed remember, that, bowed down concerning myself, is my soul;
21 Dies will ich zu Herzen nehmen, darum will ich hoffen:
This, will I bring back to my heart, therefore, will I hope.
22 Jahwes Gnaden sind ja noch nicht aus, sein Erbarmen ja nicht zu Ende;
The lovingkindnesses of Yahweh, verily they are not exhausted, Verily! not at an end, are his compassions:
23 jeden Morgen ist es neu, groß ist deine Treue!
New things for the mornings! Abundant is thy faithfulness:
24 Mein Teil ist Jahwe, spricht meine Seele, darum will ich auf ihn hoffen.
My portion, is Yahweh, saith my soul, For this cause, will I wait for him.
25 Gütig ist Jahwe gegen die, so auf ihn harren, gegen die Seele, die ihn sucht.
Good is Yahweh, to them who wait for him, to the soul that will seek him;
26 Gut ist's, schweigend zu harren auf die Hilfe Jahwes.
Good it is—both to wait and to be silent, for the deliverance of Yahweh;
27 Gut ist's dem Manne, zu tragen das Joch in seiner Jugend.
Good it is for a man, that he should bear the yoke in his youth.
28 Er sitze einsam und schweige, weil er's ihm auferlegt.
Let him sit alone, and keep silence, because he took it upon himself:
29 Er berühre mit seinem Munde den Staub, vielleicht ist noch Hoffnung;
Let him put, in the dust, his mouth, peradventure, there is hope!
30 biete dem, der ihn schlägt, die Wange, werde mich Schmach gesättigt.
Let him give, to him that smiteth him, his cheek, let him be sated with reproach.
31 Denn nicht auf ewig verstößt der Herr.
Surely My Lord, will not cast off, unto times age-abiding;
32 sondern, wenn er betrübt hat, so erbarmt er sich wieder nach der Fülle seiner Gnade.
Surely, though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion, according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses;
33 Denn er plagt nicht aus Lust und betrübt die Menschenkinder.
Surely he hath not afflicted from his heart, nor caused sorrow to the sons of men.
34 Daß man unter die Füße tritt alle Gefangenen des Landes,
To crush, under his feet, any of the prisoners of the earth;
35 das Recht eines Mannes beugt vor dem Antlitz des Höchsten,
To turn aside the right of a man, before the face of the Most High;
36 eines Menschen Streitsache verdreht, - sollte das der Herr nicht sehn?
To oppress a son of earth in his cause, My Lord, hath made no provision.
37 Wer ist, der da sprach, und es geschah, ohne daß der Herr es geboten?
Who was it that spake, and it was done, [when], My Lord, had not commanded?
38 Geht nicht aus dem Munde des Höchsten hervor das Böse und das Gute?
Out of the mouth of the Most High, Proceed there not misfortunes and blessing?
39 Was seufzt der Mensch, so lang er lebt? Ein jeder seufze über seine Sünden!
Why should a living son of earth complain, [Let] a man [complain] because of his sins?
40 Laßt uns unsern Wandel prüfen und erforschen und zu Jahwe uns bekehren!
Let us search out our ways, and examine them well, and let us return unto Yahweh;
41 Laßt uns Herz und Hände erheben zu Gott im Himmel!
Let us lift up our heart, to the opened palms, to the Mighty One in the heavens;
42 Wir haben gesündigt und sind ungehorsam gewesen, du hast nicht vergeben,
We, have trespassed and rebelled, Thou, hast not pardoned.
43 hast dich verhüllt in Zorn und uns verfolgt, gemordet ohne Erbarmen,
Thou hast covered thyself with anger, and pursued us, hast slain—hast not spared;
44 hast dich in Gewölk verhüllt, daß kein Gebet hindurchdrang.
Thou hast screened thyself with the clouds, that prayer, should not pass through;
45 Zu Kehricht und Abscheu machtest du uns inmitten der Völker.
Offscouring and refuse, dost thou make us, in the midst of the peoples.
46 Ihren Mund rissen auf über uns alle unsere Feinde.
With their mouth, opened wide over us, [stand] all our foes.
47 Grauen und Grube ward uns zu teil, Verwüstung und Verderben.
Terror and a pit, have befallen us, tumult and grievous injury;
48 Ströme Wassers thränt mein Auge über das Verderben der Tochter meines Volks.
With streams of water, mine eye runneth down, over the grievous injury of the daughter of my people.
49 Ruhelos fließt mein Auge ohne Aufhören,
Mine eye, poureth itself out and ceaseth not, without relief;
50 bis daß herniederschaue und darein sehe Jahwe vom Himmel.
Until Yahweh out of the heavens shall look forth, and see,
51 Meine Thräne zehrt an meiner Seele um alle Töchter meiner Stadt.
Mine eye dealeth severely with my soul, because of all the daughters of my city.
52 Mich jagten, jagten wie einen Vogel die, so mir grundlos feind sind,
They, have laid snares, for me as a bird, who are mine enemies without cause:
53 machten in der Grube mein Leben verstummen und warfen Steine auf mich.
They have cut off, in the dungeon, my life, and have cast a stone upon me;
54 Wasser strömte über mein Haupt; ich dachte: ich bin verloren!
Waters, flowed over, my head, I said, I am cut off!
55 Ich rief deinen Namen, Jahwe, aus tief unterster Grube.
I have called upon thy Name, O Yahweh, out of the dungeon below;
56 Du hörtest mein Rufen: “Verschließe dein Ohr nicht; komm mich zu erquicken, mir zu helfen!”
My voice, thou hast heard, —do not close thine ear to my respite, to mine outcry;
57 Du warst nahe, als ich dich rief, sprachst: “Sei getrost!”
Thou drewest near, in the day I kept calling on thee, thou saidst, Do not fear!
58 Du führtest, o Herr, meine Sache, erlöstest mein Leben.
Thou hast pleaded, O My Lord, the pleas of my soul, hast redeemed my life;
59 Du hast, o Jahwe, meine Unterdrückung gesehn, hilf mir zu meinem Recht!
Thou hast beheld, O Yahweh, my failure to get justice, Pronounce thou my sentence;
60 Du hast all' ihre Rachgier gesehn, all' ihre Pläne wider mich,
Thou hast seen all their vindictiveness, all their plots against me.
61 hast ihr Schmähen gehört, o Jahwe, all' ihre Pläne wider mich,
Thou hast heard their reproach, O Yahweh, all their plots against me;
62 die Reden meiner Widersacher und ihr stetes Trachten wider mich.
The lips of mine assailants, and their mutterings, are against me, all the day;
63 Schau, ob sie sitzen oder aufstehen, ich bin ihr Spottlied!
On their downsitting and their uprising, do thou look, I, am their song.
64 Du wirst ihnen lohnen, Jahwe, nach ihrer Hände Werk,
Thou wilt render to them a recompense, O Yahweh, according to the work of their hands;
65 wirst ihr Herz verstocken - dein Fluch über sie!
Thou wilt suffer them a veiling of heart, thy curse to them;
66 Du wirst sie im Zorn verfolgen und vertilgen unter Jahwes Himmel weg!
Thou wilt pursue in anger, and wilt destroy them, from under the heavens of Yahweh.
