Richter 13

1 Aber die Israeliten thaten aufs neue, was Jahwe mißfiel; da gab sie Jahwe in die Gewalt der Philister vierzig Jahre lang.

And the children of Israel again did evil in the eyes of the Lord; and the Lord gave them into the hands of the Philistines for forty years.

2 Es war ein Mann aus Zorea vom Geschlechte der Daniten namens Manoah; dessen Weib war unfruchtbar und hatte nicht geboren.

Now there was a certain man of Zorah of the family of the Danites, and his name was Manoah; and his wife had never given birth to a child.

3 Da erschien der Engel Jahwes dem Weibe und sprach zu ihr: Allerdings bist du ja unfruchtbar und hast nicht geboren, aber du sollst schwanger werden und einen Sohn gebären.

And the angel of the Lord came to the woman, and said to her, See now! though you have never given birth to children, you will be with child and give birth to a son.

4 So nimm dich denn in acht, trinke weder Wein noch berauschendes Getränk und iß keinerlei Unreines.

Now then take care to have no wine or strong drink and to take no unclean thing for food;

5 Dann wirst du demnächst schwanger werden und einen Sohn gebären; auf dessen Haupt darf kein Schermesser kommen, denn der Knabe soll von Mutterleibe an ein Gottgeweihter sein, und er wird anfangen, Israel aus der Gewalt der Philister zu erretten.

For you are with child and will give birth to a son; his hair is never to be cut, for the child is to be separate to God from his birth; and he will take up the work of freeing Israel from the hands of the Philistines.

6 Das Weib aber ging hin und erzählte ihrem Manne also: Ein Mann Gottes kam zu mir, der war anzusehen wie der Engel Gottes - überaus furchtbar; aber ich fragte ihn nicht, woher er sei, und seinen Namen nannte er mir nicht.

Then the woman came in, and said to her husband, A man came to me, and his form was like the form of a god, causing great fear; I put no question to him about where he came from, and he did not give me his name;

7 Der sagte zu mir: Wirst du demnächst schwanger werden und einen Sohn gebären, so trinke dann weder Wein, noch berauschendes Getränk und iß keinerlei Unreines; denn der Knabe soll ein Gottgeweihter sein von Mutterleibe an bis zum Tage seines Todes.

But he said to me, You are with child and will give birth to a son; and now do not take any wine or strong drink or let anything unclean be your food; for the child will be separate to God from his birth to the day of his death.

8 Da betete Manoah zu Jahwe und sprach: Mit Vergunst, o Herr! Der Gottesmann, den du gesandt hast, möge doch noch einmal zu uns kommen und uns belehren, wie wir uns in betreff des Knaben, der geboren werden soll, zu verhalten haben!

Then Manoah made prayer to the Lord, and said, O Lord, let the man of God whom you sent come to us again and make clear to us what we are to do for the child who is to come.

9 Gott aber willfahrte Manoah, so daß der Engel Gottes nochmals zu dem Weibe kam, während sie eben auf dem Felde saß, und ihr Mann, Manoah, nicht bei ihr war.

And God gave ear to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came to the woman again when she was seated in the field; but her husband Manoah was not with her.

10 Da lief das Weib schleunigst hin und berichtete es ihrem Manne und sprach zu ihm: Eben ist mir der Mann erschienen, der neulich zu mir kam!

So the woman, running quickly, gave her husband the news, saying, I have seen the man who came to me the other day.

11 Da machte sich Manoah seinem Weibe nach auf den Weg und als er bei dem Manne angelangt war, fragte er ihn: Bist du der Mann, der mit dem Weibe gesprochen hat? Er erwiderte: Ja.

And Manoah got up and went after his wife, and came up to the man and said to him, Are you the man who was talking to this woman? And he said, I am.

12 Nun fragte Manoah: Wenn nun dein Wort eintrifft - wie soll es dann mit dem Knaben gehalten und wie mit ihm verfahren werden?

And Manoah said, Now when your words come true, what is to be the rule for the child and what will be his work?

13 Der Engel Jahwes erwiderte Manoah: Das Weib muß sich vor allem, was ich ihr genannt habe, in acht nehmen.

And the angel of the Lord said to Manoah, Let the woman take note of what I have said to her.

14 Sie darf schlechterdings nichts essen, was vom Weinstocke kommt, darf nicht Wein oder berauschendes Getränke trinken und keinerlei Unreines essen: was ich ihr geboten habe, soll sie alles beobachten.

She is to have nothing which comes from the vine for her food, and let her take no wine or strong drink or anything which is unclean; let her take care to do all I have given her orders to do.

15 Da sprach Manoah zum Engel Jahwes: Wir möchten dich gerne zurückhalten und dir ein Ziegenböckchen vorsetzen.

And Manoah said to the angel of the Lord, Now let us keep you while we make ready a young goat for you.

16 Aber der Engel Jahwes erwiderte Manoah: Wenn du mich auch zurückhieltest, würde ich doch nicht von deiner Speise essen; willst du aber ein Brandopfer herrichten, so bringe es Jahwe dar! Manoah wußte nämlich nicht, daß es der Engel Jahwes war.

And the angel of the Lord said to Manoah, Though you keep me I will not take of your food; but if you will make a burned offering, let it be offered to the Lord. For it had not come into Manoah's mind that he was the angel of the Lord.

17 Da fragte Manoah den Engel Jahwes: Wie heißest du? Denn wenn dein Wort eintrifft, wollen wir dich ehren.

Then Manoah said to the angel of the Lord, What is your name, so that when your words come true we may give you honour?

18 Der Engel Jahwes erwiderte ihm: Was fragst du nach meinem Namen? - ist er doch wunderbar!

But the angel of the Lord said to him, Why are you questioning me about my name, seeing that it is a wonder?

19 Da nahm Manoah das Ziegenböckchen und das dazu gehörige Speisopfer und brachte es Jahwe auf einem Stein als Opfer dar. Dabei geschah etwas Wunderbares vor den Augen Manoahs und seines Weibes.

So Manoah took the young goat with its meal offering, offering it on the rock to the Lord, who did strange things.

20 Als nämlich die Flamme vom Altare gen Himmel aufstieg, da fuhr der Engel Jahwes in der Altarflamme hinauf. Als Manoah und sein Weib dies sahen, warfen sie sich zur Erde nieder auf ihr Angesicht.

And when the flame went up to heaven from the altar, the angel of the Lord went up in the flame of the altar, while Manoah and his wife were looking on; and they went down on their faces to the earth.

21 Aber der Engel Jahwes zeigte sich Manoah und seinem Weibe nicht wieder. Da erkannte Manoah, daß es der Engel Jahwes gewesen war.

But the angel of the Lord was seen no more by Manoah and his wife. Then it was clear to Manoah that he was the angel of the Lord.

22 Und Manoah rief seinem Weibe zu: Wir müssen sterben, denn wir haben Gott gesehen!

And Manoah said to his wife, Death will certainly be our fate, for it is a god whom we have seen.

23 Sein Weib aber entgegnete ihm: Wenn uns Jahwe hätte töten wollen, so hätte er nicht ein Brandopfer und Speisopfer von uns angenommen und hätte uns nicht dies alles mit ansehen und uns jetzt nicht solches hören lassen!

But his wife said to him, If the Lord was purposing our death, he would not have taken our burned offering and our meal offering, or have given us such orders about the child.

24 Und das Weib gebar einen Sohn und nannte ihn Simson; der Knabe wuchs heran, und Jahwe segnete ihn.

So the woman gave birth to a son, and gave him the name Samson; and he became a man and the blessing of the Lord was on him.

25 Und der Geist Jahwes begann ihn zu treiben im Lager Dans zwischen Zorea und Esthaol.

And the spirit of the Lord first came on him in Mahaneh-dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.
