Josua 7
1 Die Israeliten aber vergriffen sich treulos an dem Geweihten; denn Achan, der Sohn Karmis, des Sohnes Sabdis, des Sohnes Serahs aus dem Stamme Juda eignete sich etwas von dem Geweihten an. da wurde Jahwe sehr zornig über die Israeliten.
But the people of Israel acted unfaithfully regarding the things that were set apart for destruction. Achan son of Karmi son of Zabdi son of Zerah, from the tribe of Judah, took some things that were set apart for destruction, and Yahweh's anger burned against the people of Israel.
2 Hierauf sandte Josua von Jericho aus Leute nach Ai, das bei Beth Aven östlich von Bethel liegt, und befahl ihnen: Zieht hinauf und kudschaftet die gegend aus! Da zogen die Männer hinauf und kundschafteten Ai aus.
Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which was near Beth Aven, east of Bethel. He said to them, “Go up and spy out the land.” So the men went up and spied out Ai.
3 Sodann kehrten sie zu Josua zurück und berichteten ihm: Es braucht nicht das gesamte Volk hinzuziehen; zwei- oder dreitausend Mann mögen hinziehen, um Ai zu unterwerfen. Du brauchst nicht das ganze Volk dorthin zu bemühen, denn jene sind gering an Zahl!
When they returned to Joshua, they said to him, “Do not send all the people up to Ai. Send only two or three thousand men to go up and attack Ai. Do not make all the people labor in battle, for they are few in number.”
4 Da zogen von dem Volk ungefähr dreitausend Mann dorthin; sie wurden jedoch von den Einwohnern von Ai in die Flucht geschlagen.
So only about three thousand men went up from the army, but these ran away from the men of Ai.
5 Und die Einwohner von Ai erschlugen von ihnen ungefähr sechsunddreißig Mann, verfolgten sie von dem Stadtthore bis Saharim und schlugen sie am Bergabhang; da entsank dem Volke der Mut und zerfloß.
The men of Ai killed about thirty-six men as they pursued them from the city gate as far as to the stone quarries, and they killed them as they were going down a hill. The hearts of the people melted and became like water.
6 Josua aber zerriß seine Kleider, warf sich vor der Lade Jahwes auf sein Angesicht zu Boden und lag da bis zum Abend, er und die Vornehmsten der Israeliten, und sie streuten Erde auf ihr Haupt.
Then Joshua tore his garments. He and the elders of Israel put dust on their heads and lay facedown on the ground in front of the ark of Yahweh, remaining there until evening.
7 Und Josua sprach: Ach Herr, Jahwe! Hast du denn dieses Volk den Jordan überschreiten lassen, um uns den Amoritern zu überliefern, damit sie uns vernichten? O hätten wir uns doch entschlossen, jenseits des Jordan wohnen zu bleiben!
Then Joshua said, “Ah, Yahweh Lord, why have you brought this people across the Jordan at all? To give us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we made a different decision and we had stayed on the other side of the Jordan!
8 Aber bitte, o Herr! Was soll ich sagen, nachdem nun die Israeliten vor ihren Feinden haben fliehen müssen?
Lord, what can I say, after Israel has turned their backs before their enemies?
9 Wenn das die Kanaaniter und alle Bewohner des Landes erfahren, so werden sie uns umzingeln und uns bis auf den Namen vom Erdboden vertilgen. Was willst du nun für deinen gewaltigen Namen tun?
For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it. They will surround us and make the people of the earth forget our name. What will you do for your great name?”
10 Jahwe aber erwiderte Josua: Steh auf! Wozu liegst du noch auf deinem Angesicht
Yahweh said to Joshua, “Get up! Why are you lying there on your face?
11 Die Israeliten haben sich versündigt; haben sie doch die Verfügung, die ich ihnen gegenüber getroffen habe, übertreten und sich von dem Geweihten etwas angeeignet. So haben sie sowohl einen Diebstahl begangen, als auch das Gestohlene verheimlicht - haben sie es ja doch unter ihre Geräte getan!
Israel has sinned. They have broken my covenant which I commanded them. They have stolen some of the things that were set apart. They have stolen and then also hidden their sin by putting what they have taken among their own belongings.
12 daher können die Israeliten vor ihren Feinden nicht standhalten; sondern müssen vor ihren Feinden die Flucht ergreifen, weil sie selbst dem Banne verfallen sind. deshalb will ich nicht eher wieder mit euch sein, als bis ihr das dem Banne Geweihte aus eurer Mitte getilgt habt.
As a result, the people of Israel cannot stand before their enemies. They turned their backs from their enemies because they themselves have been set apart for destruction. I will not be with you any more unless you destroy the things that should have been destroyed, but are still among you.
13 Geh ans Werk, weihe das Volk und befiehl: Sorgt dafür, dß ihr morgen rein seid! Denn so spricht Jahwe, der Gott Israels: dem Banne geweihtes ist unter dir, o Israel! Darum kannst du vor deinen Feinden nicht standhalten, bis ihr das dem Banne Geweihte aus euerer Mitte entfernt habt.
Get up! Consecrate the people to me and say to them, 'Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow. For Yahweh, the God of Israel says, “There are things set apart to be destroyed that are still among you, Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove from among you all the things that were set apart to be destroyed.”
14 Deshalb sollt ihr morgen früh Stamm für Stamm herantreten, und der Stamm, den Jahwe bezeichnen wird, sollen die einzelnen Männer herantreten.
In the morning, you must present yourselves by your tribes. The tribe that Yahweh selects will come near by their clans. The clan that Yahweh selects must come near by each household. The household that Yahweh selects must come near one by one.
15 Denjenigen aber, der im Besitze des dem Banne Geweihten betroffen wird, soll man verbrennen nebst allen, was ihm angehört; denn er hat die Verfügung Jahwes übertreten und eine schandthat in Israel verübt!
It will happen that the one who is selected and who has those things that were set apart for destruction, he will be burned, he and all he has, because he has broken the covenant of Yahweh and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.'”
16 da ließ Josua am andern Morgen früh die Israeliten Stamm für Stamm herantreten; da wurde der Stamm Juda bezeichnet.
So, Joshua got up early in the morning and brought Israel near, tribe by tribe, and the tribe of Judah was selected.
17 Da ließ er die Geschlechter Judas herantreten und bezeichnete das Geschlecht der Serahiter. Sodann ließ er das Geschlecht der Serahiter familienweise herantreten, Mann für Mann,
Joshua brought the clans of Judah near, and the clan of the Zerahites was selected. He brought near the clan of the Zerahites person by person, and Zabdi was selected.
18 und nun wurde Achan, der Sohn Karmis, des Sohnes Sabdis, des Sohnes Serahs, aus dem Stamme Juda bezeichnet.
He brought Zabdi's household near, person by person, and Achan son of Karmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, from the tribe of Judah, was selected.
19 Da sprach Josua zu Achan: Mein Sohn, gieb Jahwe, dem Gott Israels, die Ehre und lege ihm ein Bekenntnis ab. Sage mir doch, was du getan hast; verhehle mir nichts!
Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, tell the truth before Yahweh, the God of Israel, and give your confession to him. Please tell me what you have done. Do not hide it from me.”
20 Da erwiderte Achan Josua und sprach: Ich habe mich in Wahrheit an Jahwe, dem Gott Israels versündigt: das und das habe ich getan.
Achan answered Joshua, “Truly, I have sinned against Yahweh, the God of Israel. This is what I did:
21 Ich erblickte unter der Beute einen schönen Mantel aus Sinear, zweihundert Sekel Silber und eine goldene Zunge, fünfzig Sekel schwer. Da gelüstete es mich nach diesen Dingen, und ich eignete sie mir an; sie liegen im Boden vergraben in meinem Zelt und das Geld liegt darunter.
When I saw among the plunder a beautiful coat from Babylon, two hundred shekels of silver, and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels, I desired them and took them. They are hidden in the ground in the middle of my tent, and the silver is under it.”
22 Da schickte Josua Boten aus, die liefen in das Zelt; da ergab sich, daß die Sachen in seinem Zelte vergraben waren und das Geld darunter.
Joshua sent messengers, who ran to the tent and there were the things. When they looked, they found them hidden in his own tent, and the silver under them.
23 Und sie nahmen sie aus dem Zelte fort, brachten sie zu Josua und allen Israeliten und legten sie vor Jahwe nieder.
They took the items from the middle of the tent and brought them to Joshua and to all the people of Israel. They poured them out before Yahweh.
24 Josua aber nahmAchan, den Sohn Serahs, das geld, den Mantel und die goldene Zunge, sowie seine Söhne und Töchter, seine Rinder, Esel und Schafe nebst seinem Zelt und allem, was ihm gehörte, im Beisein aller Israeliten, und sie brachten sie hinauf ins Tal Achor.
Then Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan son of Zerah, and the silver, the coat, the bar of gold, his sons and daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had, and they brought them up to the Valley of Achor.
25 Da sprach Josua: Wie hast du uns ins Unglück gestürzt! So stürze dich jetzt Jahwe ins Unglück! Da bewarfen ihn alle Israeliten mit Steinen, und sie verbrannten sie und steinigten sie.
Then Joshua said, “Why have you troubled us? Yahweh will trouble you today.” All Israel stoned him with stones. Then they stoned the rest with stones and burned them with fire.
26 Sodann errichteten sie über ihm einen großen Steinhaufen, der befindet sich dort bis auf den heutigen Tag; Jahwe aber ließ ab von seinem heftigen Zorn. Daher heißt jene Stätte Thal Achor bis auf den heutigen Tag.
They set up over him a great heap of stones that is here until this day. Yahweh turned away his burning anger. Therefore the name of the place is the Valley of Achor until this present day.
