Josua 5

1 Als aber alle Könige der Amoriter jenseits des Jordan im Westen und alle Könige der Kanaaniter, die am Meere wohnten, vernahmen, daß Jahwe das Wasser des Jordan vor den Israeliten hatte vertrocknen lassen, bis sie hinübergezogen waren, wurden sie ganz verzagt und ließen den Mut vor den Israeliten sinken.

Nowe when all the Kings of the Amorites, which were beyond Iorden Westward, and all the Kinges of the Canaanites which were by the Sea, heard that the Lord had dried vp the waters of Iorden before the children of Israel vntill they were gone ouer, their heart fainted: and there was no courage in them any more because of the children of Israel.

2 Zu jener Zeit gebot Jahwe Josua: Mache dir steinerne Messer und beschneide wiederum die Israeliten, zum zweiten Male.

That same time the Lord said vnto Ioshua, Make thee sharpe kniues, and returne, and circumcise the sonnes of Israel the second time.

3 Da machte sich Josua steinerne Messer und beschnitt die Israeliten beim Hügel der Vorhäute.

Then Ioshua made him sharpe kniues and circumcised the sonnes of Israel in the hill of the foreskinnes.

4 Und dies war der Grund, warum Josua die Beschneidung vornahm: das ganze Volk, das aus Ägypten ausgezogen war, soweit es männlichen Geschlechts war, alle Kriegsleute, waren unterwegs in der Steppe nach ihrem Wegzug aus Ägypten gestorben.

And this is the cause why Ioshua circumcised all the people, euen the males that came out of Egypt, because all the men of warre were dead in the wildernesse by the way after they came out of Egypt.

5 denn alle die, die auszogen, waren beschnitten gewesen; dagegen alle die, welche unterwegs in der Steppe nach ihrem Wegzug aus Ägypten geboren worden waren, hatte man nicht beschnitten.

For all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were borne in the wildernes by the way after they came out of Egypt, were not circumcised.

6 Denn vierzig Jahre waren die Israeliten in der Steppe gewandert, bis das ganze Volk, die Kriegsleute, die aus Ägypten weggezogen waren, ausgestorben war, weil sie den Worten Jahwes nicht gehorcht hatten. Denn Jahwe hatte ihnen geschworen, daß er sie das Land, dessen Verleihung an uns Jahwe ihren Vätern zugeschworen hatte, - ein Land, das von Milch und Honig überfließt, - nicht sehen lassen werde.

For the children of Israel walked fourtie yeres in the wildernes, till all the people of the men of warre that came out of Egypt were consumed, because they obeyed not the voyce of the Lord: vnto whome the Lord sware, that he would not shewe them the lande, which the Lord had sworne vnto their fathers, that he would giue vs, euen a land that floweth with milke and hony.

7 Und er hatte ihre Söhne an ihre Stelle treten lassen; diese nun beschnitt Josua, denn sie waren unbeschnitten, da man sie unterwegs nicht beschnitten hatte.

So their sonnes whome he raysed vp in their steade, Ioshua circumcised: for they were vncircumcised, because they circumcised them not by the way.

8 Als nun das ganze Volk bis auf den letzten Mann beschnitten war, blieben sie an ihren Plätzen im Lager, bis sie genesen waren.

And when they had made an ende of circumcising al the people, they abode in the places in the campe till they were whole.

9 Jahwe aber sprach zu Josua: Heute habe ich den Hohn der Ägypter von euch abgewälzt! Daher heißt die Stätte Gilgal bis auf den heutigen Tag.

After, the Lord said vnto Ioshua, This day I haue taken away the shame of Egypt from you: wherefore he called the name of that place Gilgal, vnto this day.

10 Als sich nun die Israeliten im Gilgal gelagert hatten, feierten sie am vierzehnten Tage des Monats, am Abend, in den Steppen von Jericho das Passah.

So the children of Israel abode in Gilgal, and kept ye feast of the Passeouer the fourteenth day of the moneth at euen in ye plaine of Iericho.

11 Und sie aßen an dem auf das Passah folgenden Tage ungesäuerte Brote und geröstetes Getreide von dem Ertrage des Landes, an eben diesem Tage.

And they did eat of the corne of the land, on the morow after the Passeouer, vnleauened breade, and parched corne in the same day.

12 Am folgenden Tag aber hörte das Manna auf, indem sie nun von dem Ertrage des Landes aßen, und es wurde den Israeliten kein Manna mehr zu teil; so nährten sie sich nun in jenem Jahre von dem Ertrage des Landes Kanaan.

And the MAN ceased on the morowe after they had eaten of the corne of the land, neither had the children of Israel MAN any more, but did eate of the fruite of the land of Canaan that yeere.

13 Während sich aber Josua bei Jericho befand, schaute er einst auf und sah, wie ein Mann mit einem gezückten Schwert in der Hand ihm gegenüberstand. da ging Josua auf ihn zu und fragte ihn: Gehörst du zu uns oder zu unseren Feinden?

And when Ioshua was by Iericho, he lift vp his eyes and looked: and behold, there stood a man against him, hauing a sword drawen in his hand: and Ioshua went vnto him, and said vnto him, Art thou on our side, or on our aduersaries?

14 Er antwortete: Nein, sondern ich bin der Anführer des Kriegsheeres Jahwes; eben bin ich gekommen! Da warf sich Josua zu Boden auf sein Angesicht und verneigte sich; dann fragte er ihn: O Herr! Was befiehlst du deinem Diener?

And he said, Nay, but as a captaine of the host of the Lord am I nowe come: then Ioshua fel on his face to the earth, and did worship, and saide vnto him, What sayth my Lord vnto his seruant?

15 da sprach der Anführer des Kriegsheeres Jahwes: Zieh deine Sandalen aus; denn die Stätte, auf die du trittst, ist heilig! Da that Josua so.

And the captaine of ye Lords host said vnto Ioshua, Loose thy shoe of thy foote: for ye place wheron thou standest, is holy: and Ioshua did so.
