Josua 2
1 Josua, der Sohn Nuns, aber sandte von Sittim heimlich zwei Männer als Kundschafter aus mit dem Auftrage: Geht hin und seht euch die Gegend um Jericho an! Da gingen sie hin und begaben sich in das Haus einer Buhlerin, Namens Rahab; dort legten sie sich schlafen.
And Joshua the son of Nun sent from Shittim two spies secretly, saying, Go, see the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into a harlot's house, named Rahab, and they lay down there.
2 Da wurde dem Könige von Jericho berichtet: Es sind da heute Nacht einige Männer von den Israeliten hierher gekommen, um das Land auszukundschaften.
And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, men have come hither to-night from the children of Israel to search out the land.
3 Da schickte der König von Jericho zu Rahab und ließ ihr sagen: Liefere die Männer aus, die zur dir gekommen sind, die in dein Haus gekommen sind; denn sie sind gekommen, um die ganze Gegend auszukundschaften!
And the king of Jericho sent to Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that have come to thee, who have come into thy house: for they have come to search out all the land.
4 Das Weib aber nahm die beiden Männer und versteckte sie. Dann sprach sie: Allerdings sind die Männer zu mir gekommen; aber ich wußte nicht, woher sie waren.
And the woman had taken and concealed the two men; and she said, Yes, the men did come unto me, but I knew not whence they were;
5 Und als bei Anbruch der Finsternis eben das Stadtthor geschlossen werden sollte, gingen die Männer fort. Ich weiß nicht, wohin die Männer gegangen sind; jagt ihnen doch schleunigst nach, so werdet ihr sie gewiß einholen!
and it came to pass when the gate had to be closed, at dark, that the men went out: I know not whither the men have gone. Pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.
6 Sie hatte sie aber hinauf auf das platte Dach geführt und unter ihren Flachsstengeln versteckt, die auf dem Dache ausgebreitet waren.
But she had taken them up to the roof, and secreted them under the stalks of flax, which she had laid out on the roof.
7 Die Leute jedoch verfolgten sie auf dem Wege zum Jordan gegen die Furten hin, und das Stadtthor schloß man, nachdem die Leute, die sie verfolgen sollten, hindurchgegangen waren.
And the men pursued after them the way to the Jordan, to the fords; and when they who pursued after them had gone out, they closed the gate.
8 Bevor sich aber jene schlafen legten, kam sie zu ihnen hinauf auf das Dach
And before they had lain down, she went up to them upon the roof;
9 und sprach zu den Männern: Ich weiß wohl, daß euch Jahwe dieses Land verliehen, und daß uns ein Schrecken vor euch befallen hat, und daß alle Bewohner des Landes vor euch verzagen.
and said to the men, I know that Jehovah has given you the land, and that the dread of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
10 Denn wir haben davon gehört, daß Jahwe, als ihr aus Ägypten wegzogt, das Wasser des Schilfmeers vor euch vertrocknen ließ, und was ihr den beiden Königen der Amoriter jenseits des Jordan, Sihon und Og, angethan habt, daß ihr den Bann an ihnen vollstreckt habt.
For we have heard that Jehovah dried up the waters of the Red sea before you when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did to the two kings of the Amorites that were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and to Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
11 Als wir das aber vernahmen, wurden wir ganz verzagt, und jedermann entsank der Mut vor euch; denn Jahwe, euer Gott, ist Gott droben im Himmel und hiernieden auf Erden!
We heard [of it], and our heart melted, and there remained no more spirit in any man because of you; for Jehovah your God, he is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath.
12 Schwört es mir deshalb bei Jahwe zu, daß, weil ich euch Gutes erwiesen habe, auch ihr meiner Familie Gutes erweisen wollt, und gebt mir ein sicheres Zeichen,
And now, I pray you, swear to me by Jehovah, since I have dealt kindly with you, that ye will also deal kindly with my father's house, and give me a certain sign,
13 daß ihr meinen Vater, meine Mutter, meine Brüder, meine Schwestern und alle ihre Angehörigen am Leben lassen und uns vor dem Tode bewahren wollt!
that ye will let my father live, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that belong to them, and deliver our souls from death.
14 Da erwiderten ihr die Männer: Unser Leben wollen wir für das eurige einsetzen, wenn ihr uns in unserer jetzigen Lage nicht verratet; wenn uns dann Jahwe dieses Land zu teil werden läßt, so wollen wir dir Gutes erweisen und Treue halten.
And the men said to her, Our lives shall pay for yours, if ye do not make this our business known; and it shall be when Jehovah shall give us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
15 Hierauf ließ sie sie an einem Seile durch das Fenster hinab, denn ihr Haus stand an der Ringmauer, und an der Mauer wohnte sie.
And she let them down by a cord through the window; for her house was upon the city-wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.
16 Und sie sprach zu ihnen: Begebt euch ins Gebirge, sonst könnten die Verfolger auf euch stoßen; haltet euch dort drei Tage lang verborgen, bis die Verfolger wieder heimgekehrt sind. Hernach könnt ihr eures Weges ziehen!
And she said to them, Go to the mountain, that the pursuers may not meet with you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers have returned; and afterwards go your way.
17 Da sprachen die Männer zu ihr: Wir wollen aber des dir geleisteten Eides, den du uns hast schwören lassen, quitt sein:
And the men said to her, We will be quit of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.
18 wenn wir ins Land kommen, mußt du die rote Schnur hier an das Fenster knüpfen, durch das du uns hinabgelassen hast, und mußt deinen Vater, deine Mutter, deine Brüder und alle deine Familienangehörigen zu dir ins Haus nehmen;
Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind in the window this line of scarlet thread by which thou hast let us down; and thou shalt gather to thee in the house thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household;
19 jeder, der sich dann außerhalb des Thores deines Hauses begiebt, trägt selbst die Verantwortung, wenn er umgebracht wird, und wir sind frei von Schuld. Für jeden aber, der bei dir drinnen bleibt, für den sind wir verantwortlich, wenn ihn jemand antastet.
and it shall be, that whoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, — his blood shall be upon his head, and we shall be innocent; but every one who shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be upon our head, if any hand be upon him.
20 Wenn du uns jedoch in unserer jetzigen Lage verrätst, so sind wir des Eides quitt, den du uns hast schwören lassen!
And if thou make known this our business, we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us swear.
21 Sie erwiderte: So wie ihr sagt, soll es geschehen! Hierauf entließ sie sie, und sie gingen von dannen. Sie aber knüpfte die rote Schnur an das Fenster.
And she said, According to your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed. And she bound the scarlet line in the window.
22 Jene aber gingen von dannen und gelangten ins Gebirge; dort blieben sie drei Tage lang, bis die Verfolger heimgekehrt waren. Die Verfolger aber suchten überall unterwegs nach ihnen, konnten sie jedoch nicht finden.
And they went, and came to the mountain, and remained there three days, until the pursuers had returned; and the pursuers sought them all the way, and found them not.
23 Hierauf machten sich die beiden Männer auf den Heimweg. Sie stiegen vom Gebirge herunter, setzten über und gelangten zu Josua, dem Sohne Nuns; dem erzählten sie alles, was ihnen begegnet war.
And the two men returned and came down from the mountain, and went over and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and related to him everything that had happened to them.
24 Und sie sprachen zu Josua: Jahwe hat das ganze Land in unsere Gewalt gegeben; auch sind alle Bewohner des Landes in Angst vor uns.
And they said to Joshua, Of a surety Jehovah has given the whole land into our hands, and even all the inhabitants of the land faint because of us.
