Jona 3
1 Hierauf erging das Wort Jahwes zum zweiten Male folgendermaßen an Jona:
Then came the word of Yahweh unto Jonah, the second time, saying:
2 Auf, begieb dich nach Nineve, der großen Stadt, und richte an sie die Predigt, die ich dir gebieten werde.
Arise, get thee unto Nineveh, the great city, —and cry against it the cry that I am bidding thee.
3 Da machte sich Jona auf und begab sich nach Nineve, wie Jahwe befohlen hatte; Nineve aber war eine unmenschlich große Stadt - drei Tagereisen lang.
So Jonah arose, and went his way unto Nineveh, according to the word of Yahweh, —Nineveh, being a city great before God, of three days’ journey.
4 Und Jona fing an, in die Stadt hineinzugehen, eine Tagereise weit, predigte und sprach: Noch vierzig Tage, so wird Nineve zerstört!
So Jonah began to enter into the city, one day’s journey, —and he cried out and said—Yet forty days, and, Nineveh, is to be overthrown!
5 Die Leute von Nineve aber glaubten Gotte, riefen ein Fasten aus und zogen Trauergewänder an, vom Größten bis zum Kleinsten.
And the people of Nineveh believed in God, —and proclaimed a fast, and clothed themselves in sackcloth, from the greatest of them, even unto the least of them.
6 Und als die Kunde davon zum Könige von Nineve drang, erhob er sich von seinem Throne, legte seinen Mantel ab und hüllte sich in ein Trauergewand; sodann setzte er sich in den Staub.
And the word reached unto the king of Nineveh, so he arose from his throne, and laid aside his robe from off him, —and covered him with sackcloth, and sat on ashes.
7 Und er ließ in Nineve ausrufen und gebieten: Auf Befehl des Königs und seiner Großen wird Folgendes verordnet: Es sollen weder Menschen noch Vieh, weder Rinder noch Schafe irgend etwas genießen; sie dürfen weder weiden, noch Wasser trinken.
And he caused an outcry to be made—and said—throughout Nineveh, By decree of the king and of his great men, Be it known: —Man and beast, herd and flock, Let them taste, nothing, let them not feed, and, water, let them not drink:
8 Vielmehr sollen sie sich - sowohl Menschen, als Vieh - in Trauergewänder hüllen und mit aller Macht Gott anrufen, und sollen ein jeder von seinem schlimmen Wandel ablassen und von dem Frevel, der an ihren Händen klebt.
Let both man and beast, cover themselves with sackcloth, and let them cry unto God, mightily, —Yea let them turn, every man from his wicked way, and from the violence which is in their hands:
9 Vielleicht lenkt Gott ein und läßt sich's gereuen und läßt ab von seinem heftigen Zorn, daß wir nicht untergehen!
Who knoweth whether God himself—may turn and grieve, —and turn away from the glow of his anger, that we perish not?
10 Als nun Gott ihr Thun gewahrte, daß sie von ihrem schlimmen Wandel abließen, da ließ sich Gott das Unheil gereuen, das er ihnen angedroht hatte, und fügte es ihnen nicht zu.
And God saw their doings, that they turned from their wicked way, —and God was grieved over the calamity which he had spoken of executing upon them, and executed it not.
