Johannes 3
1 Es war aber ein Mann von den Pharisäern mit Namen Nikodemus, ein Oberer der Juden.
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jewish people.
2 Dieser kam zu ihm nachts und sagte zu ihm: Rabbi, wir wissen, dass du als Lehrer von Gott gekommen bist. Denn niemand kann diese Zeichen tun, die du tust, es sei denn Gott mit ihm.
This man came to him at night, and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him."
3 Antwortete Jesus und sagte zu ihm: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir, wenn einer nicht von oben her geboren wird, so kann er das Reich Gottes nicht sehen.
Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I tell you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."
4 Sagt zu ihm Nikodemus: Wie kann ein Mensch geboren werden, wenn er ein Greis ist? Kann er denn in den Leib seiner Mutter zum zweitenmal eingehen und geboren werden?
Nicodemus said to him, "How can anyone be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb, and be born?"
5 Antwortete Jesus: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir, wenn einer nicht geboren wird aus Wasser und Geist, so kann er nicht in das Reich der Himmel eingehen.
Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I tell you, unless one is born of water and Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 Was aus dem Fleische geboren ist, ist Fleisch, und was aus dem Geiste geboren ist, ist Geist.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Wundere dich nicht, dass ich dir gesagt habe, ihr müßt von oben her geboren werden.
Do not be surprised that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'
8 Der Wind weht wo er will, und du hörst sein Sausen, aber du weißt nicht, woher er kommt und wohin er geht; so ist es mit jedem, der da aus dem Geiste geboren ist.
The wind blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."
9 Antwortete Nikodemus und sagte zu ihm: Wie kann dies geschehen?
Nicodemus answered and said to him, "How can these things be?"
10 Antwortete Jesus und sprach zu ihm: Du bist der Lehrer Israels und verstehst das nicht?
Jesus answered him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not understand these things?
11 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir: Wir reden was wir wissen, und bezeugen was wir gesehen haben, und ihr nehmt unser Zeugnis nicht an.
Truly, truly, I tell you, we speak that which we know, and testify of that which we have seen, but you do not accept our testimony.
12 Wenn ich euch von den irdischen Dingen sagte und ihr glaubtet nicht, wie werdet ihr glauben, wenn ich euch von den himmlischen sage?
If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
13 Und es ist niemand in den Himmel aufgestiegen, außer der vom Himmel herabgekommen ist, der Sohn des Menschen, der im Himmel ist.
And no one has ascended into heaven, but he who descended out of heaven, the Son of Man, who is in heaven.
14 Und gleich wie Moses die Schlange in der Wüste erhöht hat, so muß der Sohn des Menschen erhöht werden,
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
so that everyone who believes in him may have life without end. (aiōnios g166)
16 Denn also hat Gott die Welt geliebt, dass er seinen einzigen Sohn gab, damit jeder, der an ihn glaubt, nicht verloren gehe, sondern ewiges Leben habe. (aiōnios g166)
For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have life without end. (aiōnios g166)
17 Denn Gott hat den Sohn nicht in die Welt gesandt, damit er die Welt richte, sondern damit die Welt durch ihn gerettet werde.
For God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.
18 Der an ihn glaubt, wird nicht gerichtet: der nicht glaubt, ist schon gerichtet, weil er nicht zu dem Glauben gekommen ist an den Namen des einzigen Sohnes Gottes.
The one who believes in him is not judged, but the one who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
19 Dies aber ist das Gericht, dass das Licht in die Welt gekommen ist, und die Menschen haben die Finsternis mehr geliebt als das Licht; denn ihre Werke waren böse.
This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light, because their works were evil.
20 Denn jeder, der Schlechtes tut, haßt das Licht und kommt nicht zum Licht, damit nicht seine Werke überwiesen werden.
For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, so that his works will not be exposed.
21 Wer aber die Wahrheit tut, kommt zum Licht, damit seine Werke offenbar werden, weil sie in Gott gewirkt sind.
But the one who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God."
22 Nach diesem kam Jesus und seine Jünger in das judäische Land und er hielt sich dort mit ihnen auf und taufte.
After these things, Jesus came with his disciples into the land of Judea. He stayed there with them, and was baptizing.
23 Es war aber auch Johannes taufend in Aenon nahe bei Salem, weil dort reichlich Wasser war, und sie kamen herbei und ließen sich taufen
Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. They came, and were baptized.
24 (denn Johannes war noch nicht ins Gefängnis geworfen).
For John was not yet thrown into prison.
25 Daher entstand ein Streit seitens der Jünger Johannes' mit einem Juden über die Reinigungsfrage.
Now a dispute arose between John's disciples with a Jew about purification.
26 Und sie kamen zu Johannes und sagten zu ihm: Rabbi, der bei dir war jenseits des Jordan, für den du gezeugt hast, siehe der tauft und alles läuft zu ihm.
And they came to John, and said to him, "Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified, look, he is baptizing, and everyone is coming to him."
27 Antwortete Johannes und sprach: Ein Mensch kann nichts nehmen, es sei denn ihm gegeben vom Himmel her.
John answered, "No one can receive anything, unless it has been given to him from heaven.
28 Ihr selbst bezeugt mir, dass ich sagte, ich bin nicht der Christus, sondern Abgesandter vor ihm her bin ich.
You yourselves bear me witness that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but, 'I have been sent before him.'
29 Der die Braut hat, ist Bräutigam, der Freund aber des Bräutigams, der da steht und ihm zuhört, freut sich hoch über die Stimme des Bräutigams. Diese meine Freude nun ist erfüllt.
He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. So this joy of mine is now complete.
30 Jener muß wachsen, ich aber abnehmen.
He must increase, but I must decrease.
31 Der von oben her kommt, ist über allen; der von der Erde ist, ist von der Erde und spricht aus der Erde heraus. Der vom Himmel kommt,
He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.
32 bezeugt, was er gesehen hat und hörte, und niemand nimmt sein Zeugnis an.
What he has seen and heard, of that he testifies; and no one receives his witness.
33 Der sein Zeugnis annahm, hat besiegelt, dass Gott wahrhaftig ist.
He who has received his witness has set his seal to this, that God is true.
34 Denn wen Gott abgesandt hat, der spricht die Worte Gottes; denn er verleiht den Geist nicht abgemessen.
For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for he does not give the Spirit by measure.
35 Der Vater liebt den Sohn und hat alles in seine Hand gegeben.
The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.
36 Der an den Sohn glaubt, hat ewiges Leben; der dem Sohn nicht folgt, wird kein Leben sehen, sondern der Zorn Gottes bleibt auf ihm. (aiōnios g166)
Whoever believes in the Son has everlasting life, but whoever refuses to believe in the Son won't see life, but the wrath of God remains on him." (aiōnios g166)
