Job 5
1 Rufe nur! Giebt's einen, der dir Antwort gäbe? und an wen unter den Heiligen wolltest du dich wenden?
“Call now; is there any who will answer you? To which of the holy ones will you turn?
2 Denn den Thoren mordet sein Unmut, und den Albernen tötet sein Eifern.
For resentment kills the foolish man, and jealousy kills the simple.
3 Ich habe einen Thoren festgewurzelt gesehen, verwünschte aber plötzlich seine Stätte.
I have seen the foolish taking root, but suddenly I cursed his habitation.
4 Seinen Kindern bleibt die Hilfe fern; sie müssen sich zertreten lassen im Thor, und keiner errettet sie.
His children are far from safety. They are crushed in the gate. Neither is there any to deliver them,
5 Seine Ernte verzehrt der Hungrige - selbst aus den Dornen holt er sie heraus - und Durstige schnappen nach seinem Gut.
whose harvest the hungry eat up, and take it even out of the thorns. The snare gapes for their substance.
6 Denn Unheil wächst nicht aus dem Staub hervor, noch sprießt das Elend aus dem Boden:
For affliction doesn’t come out of the dust, neither does trouble spring out of the ground;
7 Nein, der Mensch ist zum Elend geboren, so wie der Flamme Kinder aufwärts fliegen.
but man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upward.
8 Ich aber würde mich an den Allmächtigen wenden und meine Sache Gott vorlegen,
“But as for me, I would seek God. I would commit my cause to God,
9 der große Dinge thut, die unerforschlich, und Wunder, die unzählbar sind:
who does great things that can’t be fathomed, marvellous things without number;
10 Der der Erde Regen schenkt und Wasser auf die Fluren sendet,
who gives rain on the earth, and sends waters on the fields;
11 der Niedrige hoch emporhebt, und Trauernde erfahren hohes Heil.
so that he sets up on high those who are low, those who mourn are exalted to safety.
12 Er vereitelt die Pläne der Listigen, daß ihre Hände nichts Beständiges schaffen.
He frustrates the plans of the crafty, so that their hands can’t perform their enterprise.
13 Er fängt die Klugen in ihrer eignen List, und der Verschlagenen Anschlag überstürzt sich.
He takes the wise in their own craftiness; the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.
14 Am hellen Tage stoßen sie auf Finsternis und wie zur Nachtzeit tappen sie am Mittag.
They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope at noonday as in the night.
15 So rettet er vom Schwert, aus ihrem Rachen, und aus der Gewalt des Starken den Armen.
But he saves from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty.
16 So geht dem Schwachen Hoffnung auf, und die Bosheit schließt ihr Maul.
So the poor has hope, and injustice shuts her mouth.
17 O, glücklich der Mann, den Gott zurechtweist! - so verschmähe nicht die Zucht des Allmächtigen!
“Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.
18 Denn er verwundet, doch er verbindet auch; er zerschlägt, und seine Hände heilen.
For he wounds and binds up. He injures and his hands make whole.
19 Aus sechs Nöten errettet er dich, und in sieben trifft dich kein Unheil.
He will deliver you in six troubles; yes, in seven no evil will touch you.
20 Bei Hungersnot errettet er dich vom Tode und im Kriege von den Streichen des Schwerts.
In famine he will redeem you from death; in war, from the power of the sword.
21 Vor der Zunge Geißel bist du geborgen, hast nichts zu fürchten, wenn Verheerung naht.
You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, neither will you be afraid of destruction when it comes.
22 Der Verheerung und der Teuerung kannst du lachen, die wilden Tiere brauchst du nicht zu fürchten.
You will laugh at destruction and famine, neither will you be afraid of the animals of the earth.
23 Denn mit des Feldes Steinen bist du im Bunde, und die wilden Tiere sind mit dir befreundet.
For you will be allied with the stones of the field. The animals of the field will be at peace with you.
24 Und so wirst du erfahren, daß wohlbehalten dein Zelt: du musterst deine Behausung und vermissest nichts.
You will know that your tent is in peace. You will visit your fold, and will miss nothing.
25 Du wirst erfahren, daß deine Nachkommen zahlreich sind, und deine Sprossen wie das Gras der Flur.
You will know also that your offspring will be great, your offspring as the grass of the earth.
26 In Vollreife gehst du zum Grabe ein, gleichwie die Garbe hinaufgebracht wird zu ihrer Zeit.
You will come to your grave in a full age, like a shock of grain comes in its season.
27 Siehe, das ist's, was wir erforscht, so ist's! Vernimm es und beherzige es wohl!
Behold, we have researched it. It is so. Hear it, and know it for your good.”
