Job 26

1 Hiob antwortete und sprach:

Then answered Job, and said,

2 Wie trefflich hast du der Ohnmacht geholfen, den kraftlosen Arm gestützt,

What assistance hast thou given to the powerless? [how] hast thou helped the arm without strength?

3 wie trefflich den Unverständigen beraten und Weisheit in Fülle geoffenbart!

How hast thou counselled the unwise? and what sound wisdom hast thou made known so plentifully?

4 Wem hast du deine Reden vorgetragen, und wessen Geist hat aus dir gesprochen?

To whom hast thou told words? and whose spirit came from thee?

5 Die Schatten selbst werden in Beben versetzt unter den Wassern und ihren Bewohnern.

The departed are called into being beneath the waters, and their inhabitants.

6 Nackt liegt die Unterwelt vor ihm, und unverhüllt der Abgrund. (Sheol h7585)

Naked is the nether world before him, and there is no covering for the place of corruption. (Sheol h7585)

7 Er spannt den Norden über dem Leeren aus, läßt die Erde schweben über dem Nichts.

He stretched out the north over empty space; he suspended the earth on nothing;

8 Er bindet die Wasser in seine Wolken ein, ohne daß unter ihnen das Gewölk zerreißt.

He bound up the waters in his clouds; and the cloud bursteth not under their weight;

9 Er verhüllt den Anblick seines Throns, indem er sein Gewölk darüber breitet.

He closed up the surface of his throne, spreading over it his cloud;

10 Eine Grenze zog er über den Wassern hin, da, wo sich scheiden Licht und Finsternis.

A fixed limit he compassed off over the face of the waters, for the division of the light and darkness.

11 Des Himmels Säulen werden ins Wanken gebracht und entsetzen sich vor seinem Dräun.

The pillars of heaven tremble greatly, and are astounded at his rebuke.

12 Durch seine Macht hat er das Meer erregt und durch seine Einsicht Rahab zerschmettert.

By his power he split in pieces the sea, and by his understanding he crushed [its] pride:

13 Durch seinen Hauch wird der Himmel heiter, seine Hand durchbohrte den flüchtigen Drachen.

By his breath the heavens [acquired] beauty; his hand hath created the flying serpent.

14 Und das sind nur die Säume seines Waltens - welch' leis Geflüster nur, das wir vernehmen! Doch wer erfaßt die Donnersprache seiner Allgewalt!

Lo, these are ends of his ways; for how slight a whisper is heard [by us] of him! but the thunder of his mighty deeds who can understand?
