Job 12
1 Hiob antwortete und sprach:
Then Job answered and said,
2 Ja fürwahr, ihr seid das Volk, und mit euch wird die Weisheit aussterben!
“No doubt you are the people; wisdom will die with you.
3 Ich habe auch Verstand wie ihr: nicht stehe ich hinter euch zurück - und wem wäre dergleichen nicht bewußt!
But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you. Indeed, who does not know such things as these?
4 Ein Spott des eignen Freundes muß ich sein, - ich, dessen Ruf bei Gott Erhörung fand, ein Spott ich, der Gerechte und Fromme!
I am something for my neighbor to laugh at— I, one who called on God and who was answered by him! I, a just and blameless man—I am now something to laugh at.
5 Dem Unglück Verachtung! - so denkt der Sichere - ein Stoß denen, deren Fuß im Wanken ist!
In the thought of someone who is at ease, there is contempt for misfortune; he thinks in a way that brings more misfortune to those whose foot is slipping.
6 Wohlbehalten stehn den Räubern ihre Zelte, und sorglos leben, die Gottes Zorn erregen, wer seinen Gott in seiner Faust führt!
The tents of robbers prosper, and those who provoke God feel secure; their own hands are their gods.
7 Wahrlich, frage doch nur das Vieh, das wird dich's lehren, und die Vögel des Himmels, die werden dir's verkündigen,
But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you; ask the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you.
8 oder was auf der Erde kriecht, das wird dich's lehren, und die Fische des Meeres werden dir's erzählen.
Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; the fish of the sea will declare to you.
9 Wer erkennte nicht an alledem, daß Jahwes Hand solches gemacht hat,
Which animal among all these does not know that the hand of Yahweh has done this?
10 in dessen Hand die Seele alles Lebendigen ruht und der Geist jegliches Menschenleibes?
In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.
11 Prüft nicht das Ohr die Worte, gleichwie der Gaumen die Speise kostet?
Does not the ear test words just as the palate tastes its food?
12 “Bei Ergrauten ist Weisheit, und langes Leben so gut wie Einsicht.”
With aged men is wisdom; in length of days is understanding.
13 Bei ihm ist Weisheit und Stärke, sein ist der Rat und die Einsicht!
With God are wisdom and might; he has counsel and understanding.
14 Wenn er einreißt, so wird nicht wieder aufgebaut, wen er einkerkert, dem wird nicht mehr aufgethan.
See, he breaks down, and it cannot be built again; if he imprisons someone, there can be no release.
15 Wenn er die Wasser hemmt, versiegen sie; läßt er sie los, so wühlen sie die Erde um.
See, if he withholds the waters, they dry up; and if he sends them out, they overwhelm the land.
16 Bei ihm ist Macht und Bestand, ihm gehört der Irrende und der Verführer.
With him are strength and wisdom; people who are deceived and the deceiver are both in his power.
17 Er führt Ratsherren ausgezogen fort und bethört Richter.
He leads counselors away barefoot in sorrow; he turns judges into fools.
18 Er löst die Fessel der Könige und schlingt um ihre Hüften einen Strick.
He takes off the chain of authority from kings; he wraps a cloth about their waists.
19 Er führt Priester ausgezogen fort, und stürzt Längstbestehende,
He leads priests away barefoot in sorrow and overthrows mighty people.
20 entzieht Wohlbewährten die Rede und beraubt Greise des gesunden Urteils.
He removes the speech of those who had been trusted and takes away the understanding of the elders.
21 Er gießt Verachtung über Edle aus und lockert den Gürtel Gewaltiger.
He pours contempt upon princes and unfastens the belt of strong people.
22 Er enthüllt Tiefverborgenes aus Finsternis heraus und zieht tiefes Dunkel an das Licht.
He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings deep shadows into the light.
23 Er läßt Völker groß werden und stürzt sie ins Verderben, breitet Völker aus und läßt hinweg sie führen.
He makes nations strong, and he also destroys them; He enlarges nations, and he also leads them along as prisoners.
24 Er raubt den Häuptern des Volkes den Verstand und läßt sie irren in unwegsamer Öde.
He takes away understanding from the leaders of the people of the earth; he causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no path.
25 Sie tappen in lichtlosem Dunkel, und er läßt sie taumeln wie Trunkene.
They grope in the dark without light; he makes them stagger like a drunk man.
