Jeremia 10
1 Hört das Wort, welches Jahwe zu euch redet, ihr vom Hause Israel:
Heare ye the worde of the Lord that he speaketh vnto you, O house of Israel.
2 So spricht Jahwe: An die Weise der Heidenvölker gewöhnt euch nicht, noch zittert vor den Zeichen des Himmels, weil die Heidenvölker vor ihnen zittern!
Thus saith the Lord, Learne not the way of the heathen, and be not afraid for the signes of heauen, though the heathen be afraid of such.
3 Denn die Satzungen der Völker - der Götze ist's: von Holz aus dem Walde schnitzt man ihn, ein Werk von Künstlerhänden, mit dem Schnitzmesser hergerichtet;
For the customes of the people are vaine: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest (which is the worke of the handes of the carpenter) with the axe,
4 mit Silber und mit Gold verziert man ihn, mit Nägeln und mit Hämmern befestigt man ihn, daß er nicht wanke.
And another decketh it with siluer, and with golde: they fasten it with nailes, and hammers, that it fall not.
5 Einer Tierscheuche im Gurkenfelde gleichen sie und können nicht reden; getragen müssen sie werden, denn zu schreiten vermögen sie nicht: darum fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen, denn sie können keinen Schaden thun, aber auch Glück zu bringen steht nicht in ihrer Macht!
The idoles stande vp as the palme tree, but speake not: they are borne because they cannot go feare them not, for they cannot do euill, neither can they do good.
6 Deinesgleichen giebt es nicht, Jahwe! Groß bist du und groß ist dein Name durch deine Macht.
There is none like vnto thee, O Lord: thou art great, and thy name is great in power.
7 Wer sollte dich nicht fürchten, du König der Völker? Ja, dir gebührt das, denn unter allen Weisen der Völker und in ihrem Herrschaftsbereich ist nicht deinesgleichen!
Who would not feare thee, O King of nations? for to thee appertaineth the dominion: for among all the wise men of the Gentiles, and in al their kingdomes there is none like thee.
8 Allesamt sind sie dumm und thöricht: die Unterweisung der Götzen - Holz ist's,
But, altogether they dote, and are foolish: for the stocke is a doctrine of vanitie.
9 breit gehämmertes Silber, das aus Tarsis gebracht ist, und Gold aus Uphas, Arbeit des Künstlers und der Hände des Schmelzers; aus blauem und rotem Purpur besteht ihr Gewand, eine Arbeit Kunstverständiger sind sie durch und durch.
Siluer plates are brought from Tarshish, and golde from Vphaz, for the worke of the workeman, and the handes of the founder: the blewe silke, and the purple is their clothing: all these things are made by cunning men.
10 Jahwe jedoch ist wahrhaftiger Gott; er ist lebendiger Gott und ewiger König, vor dessen Zorne die Erde erbebt, und dessen Groll die Völker nicht zu ertragen vermögen,
But the Lord is the God of trueth: he is the liuing God, and an euerlasting King: at his anger the earth shall tremble, and the nations cannot abide his wrath.
11 - also sollt ihr zu ihnen sagen: die Götter, die den Himmel und die Erde nicht gemacht haben, werden von der Erde und unter dem Himmel hinweg verschwinden -,
(Thus shall you say vnto them, The gods that haue not made the heauens and the earth, shall perish from the earth, and from vnder these heauens)
12 er, der die Erde durch seine Kraft erschaffen, den Erdkreis durch seine Weisheit gegründet und durch seine Einsicht den Himmel ausgespannt hat.
He hath made the earth by his power, and established the worlde by his wisedome, and hath stretched out the heauen by his discretion.
13 Wird seine Donnerstimme laut, antwortet Wasserbrausen am Himmel, und Wolken läßt er vom Rande der Erde heraufziehen, schafft Blitze, einen Weg zu bahnen dem Regen, und entläßt den Wind aus seinen Vorratskammern.
Hee giueth by his voyce the multitude of waters in the heauen, and he causeth the cloudes to ascend from the endes of the earth: he turneth lightnings to rayne, and bringeth forth the winde out of his treasures.
14 Verblüfft steht da jeder und kann es nicht begreifen; schämen muß sich jeglicher Schmelzer wegen seines Gebildes, weil seine Gußbilder Trug sind und kein Odem in ihnen ist:
Euery man is a beast by his owne knowledge: euery founder is confounded by the grauen image: for his melting is but falsehood, and there is no breath therein.
15 eitel Dunst sind sie, Machwerk zur Verhöhnung; wenn die Zeit ihrer Heimsuchung kommt, ist's aus mit ihnen!
They are vanitie, and the worke of errours: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
16 Aber nicht gleicht diesen Jakobs Anteil, sondern der Schöpfer des Alls ist er, und Israel ist sein Eigentumsstamm, Jahwe der Heerscharen ist sein Name.
The portion of Iaakob is not like them: for he is the maker of all things, and Israel is the rodde of his inheritance: the Lord of hostes is his Name.
17 Raffe dein Bündel von der Erde auf, die du in der Belagerungsnot sitzest!
Gather vp thy wares out of the land, O thou that dwellest in the strong place.
18 Denn so spricht Jahwe: Fürwahr, ich werde die Bewohner des Landes dieses Mal fortschleudern und ihnen Bedrängnis bereiten, auf daß sie büßen.
For thus sayth the Lord, Beholde, at this time I will throwe as with a sling the inhabitants of the lande, and will trouble them, and they shall finde it so.
19 O wehe mir ob meiner Verwundung, unheilbar ist der mir zugefügte Schlag! Und doch dachte ich: Ist nur das mein Leiden, so will ich es schon ertragen!
Wo is me for my destruction, and my grieuous plague: but I thought, Yet it is my sorow, and I will beare it.
20 Mein Gezelt ist verwüstet, und alle meine Zeltstricke sind abgerissen; meine Söhne sind von mir fortgezogen und sind nicht mehr: da ist niemand, der mein Zelt wieder aufschlüge und meine Decken wieder befestigte.
My tabernacle is destroyed, and all my coardes are broken: my children are gone from me, and are not: there is none to spread out my tent any more, and to set vp my curtaines.
21 Ja, verdummt waren die Hirten und nach Jahwe fragten sie nicht; darum hatten sie kein Gelingen, und ihre ganze Herde zerstob.
For the Pastours are become beasts, and haue not sought the Lord: therefore haue they none vnderstanding: and all the flockes of their pastures are scattered.
22 Horch! ein Geräusch! - schon kommt es heran, und ein gewaltiges Getöse vom Nordlande her, um die Städte Judas zur Einöde zu machen, zu einem Wohnsitze für Schakale!
Beholde, the noyse of the brute is come, and a great commotion out of the North countrey to make the cities of Iudah desolate, and a denne of dragons.
23 Ich weiß, Jahwe, daß das Schicksal des Menschen nicht in seiner Macht steht, noch in der Gewalt eines Mannes, der einherwandelt, daß er seinen Schritt zum Ziele lenke.
O Lord, I knowe, that the way of man is not in himselfe, neyther is it in man to walke and to direct his steps.
24 So züchtige mich doch, Jahwe, aber nur mit Maßen, nicht in deinem Zorne, daß du mich nicht aufreibest!
O Lord, correct mee, but with iudgement, not in thine anger, least thou bring mee to nothing.
25 Gieße vielmehr deinen Grimm über die Völker aus, die von dir nichts wissen wollen, und über die Geschlechter, die deinen Namen nicht anrufen; denn sie haben Jakob gefressen, ja sie haben ihn gefressen und aufgezehrt und seine Aue verwüstet.
Powre out thy wrath vpon the heathen, that knowe thee not, and vpon the families that call not on thy Name: for they haue eaten vp Iaakob and deuoured him and consumed him, and haue made his habitation desolate.
