Jesaja 40
1 Tröstet, tröstet mein Volk, spricht euer Gott!
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.
2 Redet Jerusalem zu Herzen und ruft ihm zu, daß sein Heerdienst beendet, seine Schuld abgetragen ist, daß es aus Jahwes Hand Zwiefaches empfangen hat für alle seine Sünden.
Speak to the heart of Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her time of suffering is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned; for she hath received of Jehovah's hand double for all her sins.
3 Horch, man ruft: Bahnet in der Wüste den Weg Jahwes, ebnet in der Steppe eine Straße für unseren Gott!
The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare ye the way of Jehovah, make straight in the desert a highway for our God!
4 Jedes Thal soll erhöht und jeder Berg und Hügel soll niedrig werden, und das Höckerige soll zur Ebene werden und das Hügelgelände zur Thalsohle,
Every valley shall be raised up, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places a plain.
5 damit sich die Herrlichkeit Jahwes offenbare und alles Fleisch zumal sie schaue: denn der Mund Jahwes hat es geredet!
And the glory of Jehovah shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see [it] together: for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken.
6 Horch, man sagt: Rufe! Und ich sprach: Was soll ich rufen? - Alles Fleisch ist Gras und all' sein Liebreiz wie die Blume des Feldes:
A voice saith, Cry. And he saith, What shall I cry? — All flesh is grass, and all the comeliness thereof as the flower of the field.
7 es verdorrt das Gras, es verwelkt die Blume: denn der Hauch Jahwes hat sie angeweht. Ja wahrlich, Gras ist das Volk!
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, for the breath of Jehovah bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
8 Es verdorrt das Gras, es verwelkt die Blume: aber das Wort unseres Gottes besteht auf ewig!
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth; but the word of our God abideth for ever.
9 Steige hinauf auf einen hohen Berg, du Freudenbotin Zion, erhebe kraftvoll deine Stimme, du Freudenbotin Jerusalem, erhebe sie ohne Furcht, sprich zu den Städten Judas: Da ist euer Gott!
O Zion, that bringest glad tidings, get thee up into a high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest glad tidings, lift up thy voice with strength: lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
10 Ja, der Herr, Jahwe, wird kommen als ein Starker, da sein Arm für ihn schaltet, und sein Lohn kommt mit ihm und was er erworben, schreitet vor ihm her!
Behold, the Lord Jehovah will come with might, and his arm shall rule for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompence before him.
11 Wie ein Hirte wird er seine Herde weiden, sie in seinen Arm nehmen, wird er die Lämmer in seinem Busen tragen, die säugenden Mutterschafe behutsam geleiten.
He will feed his flock like a shepherd: he will gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom; he will gently lead those that give suck.
12 Wer hat mit seiner hohlen Hand die Wasser gemessen und dem Himmel mit der Spanne sein Maß bestimmt, wer hat in einen Dreiling gefaßt den Staub der Erde und mit einer Schnellwage die Berge gewogen und die Hügel mit Wagschalen?
Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out the heavens with [his] span, and grasped the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in a balance, and the hills in scales?
13 Wer hat den Geist Jahwes ermessen und unterweist ihn als sein Ratgeber?
Who hath directed the Spirit of Jehovah, and, [as] his counsellor, hath taught him?
14 Mit wem hat er sich beraten, daß er ihm Einsicht gegeben und ihn über den Pfad des Rechts belehrt und ihn Erkenntnis gelehrt und den Weg der vollen Einsicht hätte wissen lassen?
With whom took he counsel, and [who] gave him intelligence, and instructed him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed him the way of understanding?
15 Fürwahr, Völker sind wie ein Tropfen am Eimer und gelten ihm wie ein Stäubchen an den Wagschalen; fürwahr, Inseln hebt er auf wie ein Sandkörnchen!
Behold, the nations are esteemed as a drop of the bucket, and as the fine dust on the scales; behold, he taketh up the isles as an atom.
16 Und der Libanon bietet nicht Holz genug zum Verbrennen, und sein Wild bietet nicht genug Brandopfer.
And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt-offering.
17 Alle Völker sind wie nichts vor ihm, für eitel nichts und nichtig gelten sie ihm.
All the nations are as nothing before him; they are esteemed by him less than a cipher, and vanity.
18 Und wem wollt ihr Gott vergleichen und welch' Gebilde ihm gegenüberstellen?
To whom then will ye liken God? and what likeness will ye compare unto him?
19 Das Götterbild hat ein Künstler gegossen und ein Metallarbeiter beschlug es mit Gold und mit silbernen Ketten versah es ein Metallarbeiter.
The workman casteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains [for it].
20 Wer unvermögend zu einer solchen Weihegabe, wählt Holz, das nicht fault; einen geschickten Künstler sucht er sich aus, damit er ein Götterbild aufstelle, das nicht wankt.
He that is impoverished, so that he hath no offering, chooseth a tree that doth not rot; he seeketh unto him a skilled workman to prepare a graven image that shall not be moved.
21 Seht ihr denn nicht ein? Hört ihr denn nicht? Ist's euch nicht von Anfang an kund gethan? Habt ihr nicht verstehen gelernt, was die Grundfesten der Erde lehren?
— Do ye not know? Have ye not heard? Hath it not been told you from the beginning? Have ye not understood the foundation of the earth?
22 Er ist's, der da thront auf der Rundung über der Erde, daß ihre Bewohner Heuschrecken gleichen, der den Himmel ausspannt wie einen Flor, daß er ihn hinbreitet wie ein Zelt, daß man darunter wohne,
[It is] he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a gauze curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in;
23 der da Fürsten in ein Nichts verwandelt, Erdenrichter zu nichte gemacht hat.
that bringeth the princes to nothing, that maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.
24 Kaum sind sie gepflanzt und kaum sind sie gesäet, kaum schlägt noch ihr Stamm in der Erde Wurzel, so bläst er sie auch an, daß sie verdorren, und der Sturmwind führt sie wie Stoppeln davon.
Scarcely are they planted, scarcely are they sown, scarcely hath their stock taken root in the earth, but he also bloweth upon them and they wither, and the whirlwind taketh them away as stubble.
25 Und wem wollt ihr mich vergleichen, daß ich ihm ähnelte? spricht der Heilige.
To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
26 Hebt eure Augen in die Höhe und seht: Wer hat diese geschaffen? Er, der ihr Heer nach ihrer Zahl herausführt, sie alle mit Namen nennt: infolge der Fülle seiner Allgewalt und der Stärke seiner Kraft ist keines zu vermissen!
Lift up your eyes on high, and see! Who hath created these things, bringing out their host by number? He calleth them all by name; through the greatness of his might and strength of power, not one faileth.
27 Warum sprichst du, Jakob, und warum sagst du, Israel: Mein Schicksal ist Jahwe verborgen, und mein Recht entzieht sich meinem Gott?
Why sayest thou, Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from Jehovah, and my right is passed away from my God?
28 Weißt du denn nicht, hast du denn nicht gehört: Ein ewiger Gott ist Jahwe, der Schöpfer der Enden der Erde! Er wird nicht müde und wird nicht matt, seine Einsicht ist unausforschlich.
Dost thou not know, hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not nor tireth? There is no searching of his understanding.
29 Er giebt Kraft dem Müden und dem Ohnmächtigen Stärke in Fülle.
He giveth power to the faint; and to him that hath no might he increaseth strength.
30 Mögen Jünglinge müde und matt werden, und junge Männer straucheln:
Even the youths shall faint and shall tire, and the young men shall stumble and fall;
31 Die, die auf Jahwe harren, gewinnen immer wieder neue Kraft; sie verjüngen ihre Gefieder wie die Adler, sie laufen und werden doch nicht matt, sie wandeln und werden doch nicht müde.
but they that wait upon Jehovah shall renew [their] strength: they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not tire; they shall walk, and not faint.
