Hosea 12

1 Die Ephraimiten haben ihr Gefallen an Sturm und jagen dem Ostwinde nach; jeden Tag häufen sie Lüge und Gewaltthat: sie schließen ein Bündnis mit den Assyriern, und zu den Ägyptern wird Öl gebracht.

Ephraim striveth after wind, and followeth after the east wind; all the day he multiplieth lies and desolation; and they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.

2 Aber Jahwe wird mit Juda ins Gericht gehen und wird Jakob nach seinem Wandel heimsuchen, ihm nach seinen Handlungen vergelten.

The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways, according to his doings will He recompense him.

3 Im Mutterschoße schon überlistete er seinen Bruder und als kräftiger Mann kämpfte er mit Gott.

In the womb he took his brother by the heel, and by his strength he strove with a godlike being;

4 Er kämpfte gegen eine Gotteserscheinung und siegte; er weinte und bat sie um Erbarmen. Sie fand ihn in Bethel und dort redete sie mit ihm -

So he strove with an angel, and prevailed; he wept, and made supplication unto him; at Beth-el he would find him, and there he would speak with us;

5 nämlich Jahwe, der Gott der Heerscharen, er, der Jahwe heißt -

But the LORD, the God of hosts, the LORD is His name.

6 Du sollst durch deinen Gott zurückkehren! Halte auf Liebe und Recht und harre beständig deines Gottes!

Therefore turn thou to thy God; keep mercy and justice, and wait for thy God continually.

7 Aber der Kanaaniter führte falsche Wage; er liebt es, zu übervorteilen!

As for the trafficker, the balances of deceit are in his hand. He loveth to oppress.

8 Und auch der Ephraimit sprach: Bin ich doch reich geworden, habe mir Vermögen erworben! Bei all' meinem Gewinne kann man mir keine Verschuldung nachweisen, die Sünde wäre!

And Ephraim said: 'Surely I am become rich, I have found me wealth; in all my labours they shall find in me no iniquity that were sin.'

9 Aber ich, Jahwe, bin doch dein Gott von Ägypten her - aufs neue kann ich dich in Zelten wohnen lassen wie zur Zeit der Versammlung -

But I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt; I will yet again make thee to dwell in tents, as in the days of the appointed season.

10 und habe wiederholt zu den Propheten geredet; ich war es, der zahlreiche Gesichte gab und die Propheten in Gleichnissen sprechen ließ.

I have also spoken unto the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; and by the ministry of the prophets have I used similitudes.

11 Wenn die Gileaditen nichtswürdig sind, so werden sie vernichtet werden; weil sie im Gilgal Stiere opferten, sollen eben ihre Opferstätten wie Steinhaufen an den Furchen des Ackers werden.

If Gilead be given to iniquity becoming altogether vanity, in Gilgal they sacrifice unto bullocks; yea, their altars shall be as heaps in the furrows of the field.

12 Als Jakob in das Land der Aramäer floh, ward Israel um ein Weib Knecht und um ein Weib hütete er die Herde.

And Jacob fled into the field of Aram, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.

13 Durch einen Propheten hat Jahwe die Israeliten aus Ägypten hergeführt, und durch einen Propheten ward es behütet.

And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel up out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he kept.

14 Aber bitteren Ärger haben die Ephraimiten erregt. Darum wird sie ihr Herr mit ihrer Blutschuld belasten und ihr schandbares Treiben auf sie zurückfallen lassen.

Ephraim hath provoked most bitterly; therefore shall his blood be cast upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.
