Haggai 2

1 Am einundzwanzigsten des siebenten Monats erging das Wort Jahwes durch den Propheten Haggai folgendermaßen:

In the seventh month, in the twenty-first day of the month, the LORD’s word came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

2 Sprich doch zu Serubabel, dem Sohne Sealthiels, dem Statthalter von Juda, und zu Josua, dem Sohne Jozadaks, dem Hohenpriester, und zu dem übrigen Volke also:

“Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

3 Wer ist noch unter euch übrig, der diesen Tempel in seiner früheren Herrlichkeit gesehen hat? Und wie seht ihr ihn jetzt? Ist's nicht so viel wie nichts in euren Augen?

‘Who is left amongst you who saw this house in its former glory? How do you see it now? Isn’t it in your eyes as nothing?

4 Aber nun, fasse Mut, Serubabel! ist der Spruch Jahwes; fasse Mut, Josua, Sohn Jozadaks, Hoherpriester! Fasset Mut, alle Bürger des Landes, ist der Spruch Jahwes, und betreibt das Werk; denn ich bin mit euch, ist der Spruch Jahwes der Heerscharen,

Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel,’ says the LORD. ‘Be strong, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,’ says the LORD, ‘and work, for I am with you,’ says the LORD of Hosts.

5 was ich mit euch bei eurem Auszug aus Ägypten vereinbart habe, und mein Geist ist in Kraft unter euch! Seid getrost!

This is the word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, and my Spirit lived amongst you. ‘Don’t be afraid.’

6 Denn so spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen: nur noch eine kleine Frist währt es, so erschüttere ich den Himmel und die Erde, das Meer und das Trockene;

For this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘Yet once more, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, the earth, the sea, and the dry land;

7 ich bringe alle Völker in Erregung, daß die Kleinodien aller Völker herbeikommen sollen, und ich erfülle dieses Haus mit Herrlichkeit, spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen.

and I will shake all nations. The treasure of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of Hosts.

8 Mein ist das Silber und mein das Gold, ist der Spruch Jahwes der Heerscharen.

The silver is mine, and the gold is mine,’ says the LORD of Hosts.

9 Die nachmalige Herrlichkeit dieses Tempels wird größer sein, als die frühere, spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen, und ich werde Heil auf diese Stätte legen, ist der Spruch Jahwes der Heerscharen.

‘The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,’ says the LORD of Hosts; ‘and in this place I will give peace,’ says the LORD of Hosts.”

10 Am vierundzwanzigsten des neunten Monats im zweiten Jahre des Darius erging das Wort Jahwes durch den Propheten Haggai folgendermaßen:

In the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the LORD’s word came by Haggai the prophet, saying,

11 So spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen: Erbitte dir von den Priestern Belehrung über folgenden Fall:

“The LORD of Hosts says: Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,

12 Gesetzt, es trägt jemand im Zipfel seines Gewandes heiliges Fleisch und berührt darnach mit seinem Zipfel Brot oder Gekochtes oder Wein oder Öl oder irgend etwas Genießbares, wird dieses dadurch geheiligt? Da gaben die Priester zur Antwort: Nein!

‘If someone carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and with his fold touches bread, stew, wine, oil, or any food, will it become holy?’” The priests answered, “No.”

13 Haggai aber fragte weiter: Wenn jemand, der durch eine Leiche unrein geworden ist, irgend eines von diesen Dingen berührt, wird es dadurch unrein? Da gaben die Priester zur Antwort: Jawohl!

Then Haggai said, “If one who is unclean by reason of a dead body touches any of these, will it be unclean?” The priests answered, “It will be unclean.”

14 Da hob Haggai an und sprach: So verhält es sich mit diesem Volk und so mit dieser Nation in meinen Augen, ist der Spruch Jahwes, so auch mit allem Thun ihrer Hände: was sie mir dort als Opfer darbringen, ist alles unrein.

Then Haggai answered, “‘So is this people, and so is this nation before me,’ says the LORD; ‘and so is every work of their hands. That which they offer there is unclean.

15 Nun denn, lenkt doch euer Augenmerk auf die Zeit vom heutigen Tage ab rückwärts, als man noch nicht Stein auf Stein legte am Tempel Jahwes!

Now, please consider from this day and backward, before a stone was laid on a stone in the LORD’s temple.

16 Wie war es mit euch bestellt? Man kam zu einem Getreidehaufen von vermeintlich zwanzig Scheffeln, aber es gab nur zehn; man kam zur Kufe, um fünfzig Maß zu schöpfen, aber es gab nur zwanzig.

Through all that time, when one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten. When one came to the wine vat to draw out fifty, there were only twenty.

17 Ich habe euch mit Getreidebrand, Vergilbung und Hagel gestraft an aller Arbeit eurer Hände; aber eine Umkehr zu mir gab es nicht bei euch! ist der Spruch Jahwes.

I struck you with blight, mildew, and hail in all the work of your hands; yet you didn’t turn to me,’ says the LORD.

18 Lenkt doch euer Augenmerk auf die Zeit von diesem Tage ab und weiter ab, da zum Tempel Jahwes der Grundstein gelegt ward! Lenkt euer Augenmerk darauf,

‘Consider, please, from this day and backward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, since the day that the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid, consider it.

19 ob noch die Saatfrucht im Speicher ist, und ob noch der Weinstock und der Feigenbaum, die Granate und der Ölbaum nicht tragen! Von diesem Tage an werde ich segnen!

Is the seed yet in the barn? Yes, the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree haven’t produced. From today I will bless you.’”

20 Und es erging das Wort Jahwes an Haggai zum zweiten Mal am vierundzwanzigsten des gleichen Monats folgendermaßen:

The LORD’s word came the second time to Haggai in the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,

21 Sprich also zu Serubabel, dem Statthalter von Juda: Ich erschüttere den Himmel und die Erde;

“Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, ‘I will shake the heavens and the earth.

22 ich stoße die Königsthrone um und zerstöre die Macht der heidnischen Reiche. Ich stoße die Wagen um und die darauf fahren, und es sinken die Rosse zu Boden und die darauf reiten, ein jeder getroffen vom Schwerte des anderen.

I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms. I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations. I will overthrow the chariots and those who ride in them. The horses and their riders will come down, everyone by the sword of his brother.

23 An jenem Tag, ist der Spruch Jahwes der Heerscharen, nehme ich dich, Serubabel, Sohn Sealthiels, mein Knecht, ist der Spruch Jahwes, und setze dich einem Siegelringe gleich; denn dich habe ich auserwählt, ist der Spruch Jahwes der Heerscharen.

In that day, says the LORD of Hosts, I will take you, Zerubbabel my servant, the son of Shealtiel,’ says the LORD, ‘and will make you like a signet ring, for I have chosen you,’ says the LORD of Hosts.”
