Habakuk 2
1 Ich will mich auf meine Warte stellen und auf den Wall treten, um auszuspähn, damit ich erfahre, was er mit mir reden und was er mir auf meine Beschwerde erwidern wird.
I will stand on my watch-tower, And set myself on the bulwark, And watch to see what he will say to me, And what I shall answer to my expostulation.
2 Da antwortete mir Jahwe und sprach: Schreibe das Gesicht nieder und bringe es deutlich auf die Tafeln, damit man es geläufig lesen könne.
And Jehovah answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets, That he may run that readeth it.
3 Denn noch bewegt sich das Gesicht nach dem bestimmten Ziel und eilt dem Ende zu und trügt nicht. Wenn es verzieht, so harre seiner; denn es kommt gewiß und bleibt nicht aus!
For the vision is yet for an appointed time, But it hasteneth to the end; it shall not deceive; If it tarry, wait for it; For it shall surely come; it shall not long delay.
4 Fürwahr in dem Vermessenen ist kein redlicher Sinn; aber der Fromme wird durch seinen Glauben am Leben bleiben,
Behold, the soul of him that is puffed up shall not be at ease; But the just shall live by his faithfulness.
5 Wehe über den Treulosen, den Mann, der begehrt und nicht satt wird, der wie die Hölle seinen Rachen aufsperrt und an Unersättlichkeit dem Tode gleicht, der alle Völker an sich zog und alle Nationen um sich versammelte. (Sheol h7585)
Behold, the man of wine is outrageous; The proud man remaineth not at rest; He enlargeth his desire as the grave; He is as death, and cannot be satisfied; He gathereth to himself all the nations, And collecteth to himself all the kingdoms. (Sheol h7585)
6 Werden nicht diese alle ein Spottlied auf ihn anstimmen und Stichelrede, Rätselsprüche in Bezug auf ihn? Man wird sagen: Wehe über den, der fremdes Gut anhäuft - auf wie lange wohl? - und der sich mit gepfändeter Habe belastet.
Shall not all of them utter a song against him, Yea, songs of reproach and derision concerning him? And say, Woe to him that heapeth up that which belongeth not to him! For how long a time? That ladeth himself with goods taken in pledge!
7 Werden sich nicht plötzlich deine Gläubiger erheben, und deine Peiniger erwachen? Dann wirst du ihre Beute werden!
Shall not they suddenly rise up that will oppress thee, And awake, that will harass thee? Yea, thou shalt be their booty.
8 Denn wie du viele Völker ausgeplündert hast, werden nun dich alle übrigen Völker ausplündern, wegen des vergossenen Menschenbluts und wegen der Gewaltthaten an der Erde,
Because thou hast plundered many kingdoms, All the residue of the nations shall plunder thee: For the blood of men, and for violence against the land, Against the city and all its inhabitants.
9 Wehe über den, der nach bösem Gewinne für sein Haus trachtet, um sein Nest in der Höhe anzulegen, um sich aus der Gewalt des Unglücks zu erretten!
Woe to him that procureth unjust gain for his house, That he may set his nest on high, That he may be delivered from the evil hand!
10 Du hast Enttäuschung für dein Haus beschlossen, nämlich viele Völker zu vernichten, während du gegen dein Leben frevelst.
Thou hast devised shame for thine house; By destroying many nations, thou hast brought ruin upon thyself.
11 Denn die Steine werden aus der Wand heraus schreien, und die Sparren aus dem Holzwerk werden ihnen Antwort geben.
For the stone from the wall crieth out, And the beam from the timber answereth it.
12 Wehe über den, der eine Stadt mit Blutvergießen baut und eine Ortschaft mit Frevel gründet!
Woe to him that buildeth a town by blood, And establisheth a city by iniquity!
13 Kommt solches nicht von Jahwe der Heerscharen? Völker arbeiten fürs Feuer, und Nationen mühen sich ab für nichts!
Behold, it is determined by Jehovah of hosts, That nations shall labor for the fire, And kingdoms weary themselves for naught.
14 Denn die Erde wird von der Erkenntnis der Heerlichkeit Jahwes so voll werden, wie von den Wassern, die das Meer bedecken.
For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Jehovah, As the waters cover the sea.
15 Wehe über den, der seinen Genossen zu trinken giebt aus der Schale seines Ingrimms und sie sogar trunken macht, um ihre Blöße zu beschauen!
Woe to him who giveth his neighbor drink; Who poureth out the strong wine, and maketh him drunken, That he may look upon his nakedness!
16 Du hast dich an Schande ersättigt und nicht an Ehre: Trinke nun auch du und taumele! Der Becher in der Rechten Jahwes kommt nun an dich und tiefe Schande über deine Herrlichkeit!
Thou shalt be filled with shame instead of glory; Drink thou also, and show thy foreskin! To thee shall come the cup in the right hand of Jehovah, And foul shame shall be upon thy glory.
17 Denn die Gewaltthat am Libanon wird dich erdrücken, und das Gemetzel unter den Tieren dir Schrecken einjagen, wegen des vergossenen Menschenbluts und wegen der Gewaltthaten an der Erde, an der Stadt und allen ihren Bewohnern.
For the violence done to Lebanon shall cover thee, And the destruction of the beasts which made them afraid, On account of the blood of men, and violence against the land, Against the city and all its inhabitants.
18 Was hat je ein Schnitzbild genützt, daß sein Bildner es schnitzte? Was ein Gußbild und ein falscher Wahrsager, daß sein Bilner darauf vertraute, so daß er stumme Götter verfertigte?
What profiteth the graven image, When the maker hath graven it? Or the molten image, and the teacher of lies, That the artificer trusteth in his work, When he maketh dumb idols?
19 Wehe über den, der zum Holze spricht: Erwache! Rege dich! zum starren Stein. Sollte er Bescheid geben? Ist er doch in Gold und Silber gefaßt, und keinerlei Geist belebt sein Inneres.
Woe to him who saith to the wood, Awake! To the dumb stone, Arise! Will it teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, And there is no breath within it.
20 Aber Jahwe in seinem heiligen Tempel - vor dem schweige die ganze Erde!
But Jehovah is in his Holy temple; Be silent before him, all the earth!
